Deuteronomy 3
(Numbers 21:31–35)
1Then we turnedH6437 and went upH5927 the roadH1870 to BashanH1316, and OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316H1931 and his wholeH3605 armyH5971 came outH3318 to meet usH7122 in battleH4421 at EdreiH154. 2But the LORDH3068 saidH559 to meH413, “Do notH408 fear himH3372, forH3588 I have deliveredH5414 himH853 into your handH3027, along withH853 allH3605 his peopleH5971 and his landH776. DoH6213 to him asH834 you didH6213 to SihonH5511 kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, whoH834 livedH3427 in HeshbonH2809.”
3So the LORDH3068 our GodH430 alsoH1571 deliveredH5414 OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316 and his wholeH3605 armyH5971 into our handsH3027. We struck them downH5221 until noH1115 survivorH8300 was leftH7604.
4At thatH1931 timeH6256 we capturedH3920 allH3605 sixtyH8346 of his citiesH5892. There was notH3808H1961 a single cityH7151 we failed toH3808 takeH3947—the entireH3605 regionH2256 of ArgobH709, the kingdomH4467 of OgH5747 in BashanH1316. 5AllH3605 theseH428 citiesH5892 were fortifiedH1219 with highH1364 wallsH2346 and gatesH1817 and barsH1280, and there wereH905H5892 many moreH7235H3966 unwalled villagesH6521. 6We devoted them to destructionH2763,1 asH834 we had doneH6213 to SihonH5511 kingH4428 of HeshbonH2809, utterly destroyingH2763 the menH4962, womenH802, and childrenH2945 of everyH3605 cityH5892.
7But allH3605 the livestockH929 and plunderH7998 of the citiesH5892 we carried offH962 for ourselves.
8At thatH1931 timeH6256 we tookH3947 fromH3027 the twoH8147 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567 the landH776 acrossH5676 the JordanH3383, from the ArnonH769 ValleyH5158 asH5704 far as MountH2022 HermonH2768— 9which the SidoniansH6722 callH7121H2768 SirionH8303 but the AmoritesH567 callH7121 SenirH8149— 10allH3605 the citiesH5892 of the plateauH4334, allH3605 of GileadH1568, and allH3605 of BashanH1316 as far asH5704 the citiesH5892 of SalecahH5548 and EdreiH154 in the kingdomH4467 of OgH5747.
11(ForH3588 onlyH7535 OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316 had remainedH7604 of the remnantH3499 of the RephaimH7497H2009. His bedH6210 of ironH1270, nineH8672 cubitsH520 longH753 and fourH702 cubitsH520 wideH7341,2 is still in RabbahH7237 of the AmmonitesH1121H5983.)
Land Division East of the Jordan
(Numbers 32:1–42; Joshua 13:8–14)
12SoH853 at thatH1931 timeH6256 we took possession ofH3423 thisH2063 landH776. To the ReubenitesH7206 and GaditesH1425 I gaveH5414 the land beyond AroerH6177 alongH5921 the ArnonH769 ValleyH5158, and halfH2677 the hill countryH2022 of GileadH1568, along with its citiesH5892.
13To the half-tribeH2677H7626 of ManassehH4519 I gaveH5414 the restH3499 of GileadH1568 and allH3605 of BashanH1316, the kingdomH4467 of OgH5747. (The entireH3605 regionH2256 of ArgobH709, the wholeH3605 territory of BashanH1316H1931, used to be calledH7121 the landH776 of the RephaimH7497.) 14JairH2971, a descendantH1121 of ManassehH4519, tookH3947 the wholeH3605 regionH2256 of ArgobH709 as far asH5704 the borderH1366 of the GeshuritesH1651 and MaacathitesH4602. He renamedH7121 BashanH1316H5704 afterH5921 himselfH8034, Havvoth-jairH2334,3 by whichH2088 it is called to this dayH3117.
15To MachirH4353 I gaveH5414 GileadH1568, 16and to the ReubenitesH7206 and GaditesH1425 I gaveH5414 the territory fromH4480 GileadH1568 toH5704 the ArnonH769 ValleyH5158 (the middleH8432 of the valleyH5158 was the borderH1366) and up toH5704 the JabbokH2999 RiverH5158, the borderH1366 of the AmmonitesH1121H5983. 17The JordanH3383 River in the ArabahH6160 bordered itH1366 from ChinnerethH3672 toH5704 the SeaH3220 of the ArabahH6160 (the Salt SeaH3220H44174) withH8478 the slopesH794 of PisgahH6449 to the eastH4217.
18At thatH1931H559 timeH6256 I commandedH6680 youH853: “The LORDH3068 your GodH430 has givenH5414 you thisH2063 landH776 to possessH3423. AllH3605 your menH1121 of valorH2428 are to cross overH5674, armed for battleH2502, ahead ofH6440 your brothersH251, the IsraelitesH1121H3478. 19ButH7535 your wivesH802, your childrenH2945, and your livestockH4735—I knowH3045 thatH3588 you have muchH7227 livestockH4735—may remainH3427 in the citiesH5892 I have givenH5414 you, 20untilH5704 the LORDH3068 gives restH5117 to your brothersH251 as He has to you, and theyH1992 tooH1571 have taken possession ofH3423 the landH776 thatH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 is givingH5414 them acrossH5676 the JordanH3383. Then each of youH376 may returnH7725 to the possessionH3425 I have givenH5414 you.”
21AndH853 at thatH1931H559 timeH6256 I commandedH6680 JoshuaH3091: “Your own eyesH5869 have seenH7200 allH3605 thatH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 has doneH6213 to theseH428 twoH8147 kingsH4428. The LORDH3068 will doH6213 the sameH3651 to allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 youH859 are about to enterH5674H8033. 22Do notH3808 be afraid of themH3372, forH3588 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 HimselfH1931 will fightH3898 for you.”
Moses Forbidden to Cross the Jordan
(Numbers 27:12–17)
23At thatH1931H559 timeH6256 I also pleadedH2603H413 with the LORDH3068: 24“O LordH136 GODH3069, YouH859 have begunH2490 to showH7200 Your greatnessH1433 and powerH3027H2389 to Your servantH5650. ForH834 whatH4310 godH410 in heavenH8064 or on earthH776 can performH6213 such worksH4639 and mighty actsH1369 as Yours? 25PleaseH4994 let me cross overH5674 and seeH7200 the goodH2896 landH776 beyondH5676 the JordanH3383—thatH2088 pleasantH2896 hill countryH2022 as well as LebanonH3844!”
26But the LORDH3068 was angryH5674 with me on account of youH4616, and He would notH3808 listenH8085 to meH413. “That is enoughH7227,” the LORDH3068 saidH559 to meH413. “Do notH408 speakH1696 toH413 MeH3254 againH5750 about thisH2088 matterH1697. 27GoH5927 to the topH7218 of PisgahH6449 and lookH5375H5869 to the westH3220 and northH6828 and southH8486 and eastH4217. SeeH7200 the land with your own eyesH5869, forH3588 you will notH3808 crossH5674 thisH2088 JordanH3383. 28But commissionH6680 JoshuaH3091, encourage himH2388, and strengthen himH553, forH3588 heH1931 will cross overH5674 ahead ofH6440 theH2088H1931 peopleH5971 and enable them to inheritH5157 the landH776 thatH834 you will seeH7200.”
29So we stayedH3427 in the valleyH1516 oppositeH4136 Beth-peorH1047.
