Deuteronomy 22
If you seeH7200 your brother’sH251 oxH7794 orH176 sheepH7716 strayingH5080, you must notH3808 ignore itH5956;1 be sure to return itH7725 to your brotherH251. 2IfH518 your brotherH251 does notH3808 live near youH7138, or if you do notH3808 know who he isH3045, you are to takeH622H413 the animalH413H8432 homeH1004 to remainH1961 with youH5973 untilH5704 your brotherH251 comes seeking itH1875; then you can return itH7725 to him. 3And you shall doH6213 the sameH3651 for his donkeyH2543H3651H6213, his cloakH8071H3651H6213, or anythingH3605 your brotherH251 has lostH9 and you have foundH4672. You mustH3201 notH3808 ignore itH5956.
If you seeH7200 your brother’sH251 donkeyH2543 orH176 oxH7794 fallenH5307 on the roadH1870, you must notH3808 ignore itH5956; you must help him lift it upH6965H5973.
A womanH802 must notH3808 wearH1961H5921 men’sH1397 clothingH3627, and a manH1397 must notH3808 wearH3847 women’sH802 clothingH8071, forH3588 whoeverH3605 doesH6213 these thingsH428 is detestableH8441 to the LORDH3068 your GodH430.
IfH3588 you come acrossH7122 a bird’sH6833H6440 nestH7064 with chicksH667 orH176 eggsH1000, either in a treeH6086 orH176 onH5921 the groundH776 along the roadH1870H3605, and the motherH517 is sittingH7257 onH5921 the chicksH667 orH176 eggsH1000, you must notH3808 takeH3947 the motherH517H5921 along withH5921 the youngH1121. 7You may takeH3947 the youngH1121, but be sure to let the motherH517 goH7971, so thatH4616 it may be wellH3190 with you and that you may prolongH748 your daysH3117.
IfH3588 you buildH1129 a newH2319 houseH1004, you are to constructH6213 a railingH4624 around your roofH1406, so that you do notH3808 bringH7760 bloodguiltH1818 on your houseH1004 ifH3588 someone fallsH5307 from itH4480.
Do notH3808 plantH2232 your vineyardH3754 with two types of seedH3610; if you doH6435, the entire harvestH4395 will be defiledH69422—both the cropH2233 you plantH2232 and the fruitH8393 of your vineyardH3754.
Do notH3808 plowH2790 with an oxH7794 and a donkeyH2543 yoked togetherH3162.
Do notH3808 wearH3847 clothesH8162 of woolH6785 and linenH6593 woven togetherH3162.
You are to makeH6213 tasselsH1434 onH5921 the fourH702 cornersH3671 of the cloakH3682 you wearH3680.
Marriage Violations
SupposeH3588 a manH376 marriesH3947 a womanH802, has relations withH935 herH413, and comes to hate herH8130, 14and he then accusesH7760 her of shameful conductH5949H1697 and gives herH3318H5921 a badH7451 nameH8034, sayingH559, “I marriedH3947 thisH2063 womanH802 and had relations withH7126 herH413, but I discoveredH4672 she was notH3808 a virginH1331.”
Then the young woman’sH5291 fatherH1 and motherH517 shall bringH3318 the proof of herH5291 virginityH1331 toH413 the cityH5892 eldersH2205 at the gateH8179 16and sayH559 toH413 the eldersH2205, “I gaveH5414 my daughterH1323 in marriageH802 to thisH2088 manH376, but he has come to hate herH8130. 17And nowH2009 heH1931 has accused herH7760 of shameful conductH5949H1697, sayingH559, ‘I discovered thatH4672 your daughterH1323 was notH3808 a virginH1331.’ But here is the proofH428 ofH1323 her virginityH1331.” And they shall spread outH6566 the clothH8071 beforeH6440 the cityH5892 eldersH2205.
Then the eldersH2205 of thatH1931 cityH5892 shall takeH3947 the manH376 and punish himH3256. 19They are also to fineH6064 himH853 a hundredH3967 shekels of silverH37013 and give themH5414 to the young woman’sH5291 fatherH1, becauseH3588 this man has givenH3318 a virginH1330 of IsraelH3478 a badH7451H5921 nameH8034. And she shall remainH1961 his wifeH802; he must notH3808H3201 divorce herH7971 asH3605 long as he livesH3117.
If, howeverH518, thisH2088 accusationH1697 isH1961 trueH571, and noH3808 proof of the young woman’sH5291 virginityH1331 can be foundH4672, 21she shall be broughtH3318 toH413 the doorH6607 of her father’sH1 houseH1004, and there the menH582 of her cityH5892 will stone herH5619H68 to deathH4191. ForH3588 she has committedH6213 an outrageH5039 in IsraelH3478 by being promiscuousH2181 in her father’sH1 houseH1004. So you must purgeH1197 the evilH7451 from among youH7130.4
IfH3588 a manH376 is foundH4672 lyingH7901 withH5973 another man’sH1167 wifeH802H1166, bothH1571H8147 the manH376 who sleptH7901 withH5973 her and the womanH802 must dieH4191. You must purgeH1197 the evilH7451 from IsraelH3478.
IfH3588 there isH1961 a virginH5291H1330 pledged in marriageH781 to a manH376, and another manH376 encounters herH4672 in the cityH5892 and sleepsH7901 with herH5973, 24you must take bothH8147 of them outH3318 toH413 the gateH8179 of thatH1931 cityH5892 and stoneH5619 themH68 to deathH4191—the young womanH5291 becauseH5921H1697 she did notH3808 cry outH6817 in the cityH5892, and the manH376 becauseH5921H1697 he has violatedH6031 his neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802. So you must purgeH1197 the evilH7451 from among youH7130.
But ifH518 the manH376 encountersH4672 a betrothedH781 womanH5291 in the open countryH7704, and heH376 overpowersH2388 her and liesH7901 with herH5973, onlyH905 the manH376 whoH834 has done this must dieH4191. 26DoH6213 nothingH3808H1697 to the young womanH5291, becauseH3588 sheH5291 has committed noH369 sinH2399 worthy of deathH4194. ThisH2088 caseH1697 is just likeH834 one in which a manH376H5921 attacksH6965 his neighborH7453 and murders himH7523H5315H3651. 27WhenH3588 he found herH4672 in the fieldH7704, the betrothedH781 womanH5291 cried outH6817, but there was no oneH369 to saveH3467 her.
IfH3588 a manH376 encountersH4672 a virginH5291H1330 whoH834 is notH3808 pledged in marriageH781, and he seizes herH8610 and liesH7901 with herH5973, and they are discoveredH4672, 29then the manH376 who layH7901 with herH5973 must payH5414 the young woman’sH5291 fatherH1 fiftyH2572 shekels of silverH3701,5 and she must becomeH1961 his wifeH802 becauseH8478 he has violated herH6031. He must notH3808H3201 divorce herH7971 asH3605 long as he livesH3117.
A manH376 is notH3808 to marryH3947 his father’sH1 wifeH802, so that he will notH3808 dishonorH1540 his father’sH1 marriage bedH3671.6
