21Then Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397toאֶל־'el-H413Sihonסִיחֹ֥ןsi.ChonH5511kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֖יha.'e.mo.RiH567,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

22“Let us passאֶעְבְּרָ֣ה'e'.be.RahH5674through your landבְאַרְצֶ֗ךָve.'ar.Tze.khaH776.We will notלֹ֤אlo'H3808turn aside intoנִטֶּה֙ni.TehH5186any fieldבְּשָׂדֶ֣הbe.sa.DehH7704or vineyardוּבְכֶ֔רֶםu.ve.Khe.remH3754, orלֹ֥אlo'H3808drinkנִשְׁתֶּ֖הnish.TehH8354waterמֵ֣יmeiH4325from any wellבְאֵ֑רve.'ErH875.We will stay onנֵלֵ֔ךְne.LekhH1980the King’sהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428Highwayבְּדֶ֤רֶךְbe.De.rekhH1870untilעַ֥ד'adH5704אֲשֶֽׁר־'a.Sher-H834we have passed throughנַעֲבֹ֖רna.'a.VorH5674your territoryגְּבֻלֶֽךָ׃ge.vu.Le.khaH1366.”

23But Sihonסִיחֹ֣ןsi.ChonH5511אֶת־'et-H853would notוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808letנָתַ֨ןna.TanH5414Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֮Yis.ra.'ElH3478passעֲבֹ֣ר'a.VorH5674through his territoryבִּגְבֻלוֹ֒big.vu.LoH1366.Instead, heסִיחֹ֜ןsi.ChonH5511אֶת־'et-H853gatheredוַיֶּאֱסֹ֨ףvai.ye.'e.SofH622his wholeכָּל־kol-H3605armyעַמּ֗וֹa.MoH5971and went outוַיֵּצֵ֞אvai.ye.Tze'H3318to confrontלִקְרַ֤אתlik.RatH7122Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478in the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֔רָהha.mid.Ba.rahH4057.When he cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Jahazיָ֑הְצָהYa.he.tzahH3096,he foughtוַיִּלָּ֖חֶםvai.yi.La.chemH3898against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃be.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

24And Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478put himוַיַּכֵּ֥הוּvai.ya.Ke.huH5221to the swordלְפִי־ חָ֑רֶבle.fi- Cha.revH6310 H2719and took possession ofוַיִּירַ֨שׁvai.yi.RashH3423אֶת־'et-H853his landאַרְצ֜וֹ'ar.TzoH776,from the Arnonמֵֽאַרְנֹ֗ןme.'ar.NonH769toעַד־'ad-H5704the Jabbokיַבֹּק֙ya.BokH2999—but only up toעַד־'ad-H5704the borderגְּב֖וּלge.VulH1366of the AmmonitesH1121 H5983,becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588it was fortifiedעַ֔ז'AzH5794.

25Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478אֵ֥ת'etH853capturedוַיִּקַּח֙vai.yi.KachH3947allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶעָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּהhe.'a.Rim ha.'E.lehH5892 H428of the Amoritesהָֽאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567עָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892and occupiedוַיֵּ֤שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427יִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478themבְּכָל־be.kholH3605,including Heshbonבְּחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹןbe.chesh.BonH2809and allוּבְכָל־u.ve.Khol-H3605its villagesבְּנֹתֶֽיהָ׃be.no.Tei.haH1323.

26כִּ֣יkiH3588Heshbonחֶשְׁבּ֔וֹןchesh.BonH2809was the cityעִ֗יר'IrH5892of Sihonסִיחֹ֛ןsi.ChonH5511kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֖יha.'e.mo.RiH567,whoH1931had foughtנִלְחַ֗םnil.ChamH3898against the formerהָֽרִאשׁ֔וֹןha.ri.ShonH7223kingבְּמֶ֤לֶךְbe.Me.lekhH4428of Moabמוֹאָב֙mo.'AvH4124and takenוַיִּקַּ֧חvai.yi.KachH3947אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605his landאַרְצ֛וֹ מִיָּד֖וֹ'ar.Tzo mi.ya.DoH776 H3027asעַד־'ad-H5704far as the Arnonאַרְנֹֽן׃'ar.NonH769.

27That is whyעַל־ כֵּ֛ן'al- kenH5921 H3651the poetsהַמֹּשְׁלִ֖יםha.mo.she.LimH4911sayיֹאמְר֥וּyo.me.RuH559: “Comeבֹּ֣אוּBo.'uH935to Heshbonחֶשְׁבּ֑וֹןchesh.BonH2809,let it be rebuiltתִּבָּנֶ֥הti.ba.NehH1129;let the cityעִ֥יר'irH5892of Sihonסִיחֽוֹן׃si.ChonH5511be restoredוְתִכּוֹנֵ֖ןve.ti.ko.NenH3559.

28Forכִּי־ki-H3588a fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784went outיָֽצְאָ֣הya.tze.'AhH3318from Heshbonמֵֽחֶשְׁבּ֔וֹןme.chesh.BonH2809,a blazeלֶהָבָ֖הle.ha.VahH3852from the cityמִקִּרְיַ֣תmi.kir.YatH7151of Sihonסִיחֹ֑ןsi.ChonH5511.It consumedאָֽכְלָה֙'a.khe.LahH398Arעָ֣ר'arH6144of Moabמוֹאָ֔בmo.'AvH4124,the rulersבַּעֲלֵ֖יba.'a.LeiH1167of Arnon’sאַרְנֹֽן׃'ar.NonH769heightsבָּמ֥וֹתba.MotH1116.

29Woeאוֹי־'o-H188to you,O Moabמוֹאָ֔בmo.'AvH4124!You are destroyedאָבַ֖דְתָּ'a.Vad.taH6,O peopleעַם־'am-H5971of Chemoshכְּמ֑וֹשׁke.Mo.oshH3645!He gave upנָתַ֨ןna.TanH5414his sonsבָּנָ֤יוba.NavH1121as refugeesפְּלֵיטִם֙pe.lei.TimH6412,and his daughtersוּבְנֹתָ֣יוu.ve.no.TavH1323into captivityבַּשְּׁבִ֔יתba.she.VitH7622to Sihonסִיחֽוֹן׃si.ChonH5511kingלְמֶ֥לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of the Amoritesאֱמֹרִ֖י'e.mo.RiH567.

30But we have overthrown themוַנִּירָ֛םva.ni.RamH3384;Heshbonחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹןchesh.BonH2809is destroyedאָבַ֥ד'a.VadH6as far asעַד־'ad-H5704Dibonדִּיב֑וֹןdi.VonH1769.We demolished themוַנַּשִּׁ֣יםva.na.ShimH8074asעַד־'ad-H5704far as Nophahנֹ֔פַחNo.fachH5302,whichאֲשֶׁ֖רׄ'a.SherH834reaches toעַד־'ad-H5704Medebaמֵֽידְבָֽא׃Mei.de.Va'H4311.”

31So Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478livedוַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙vai.Ye.shevH3427in the landבְּאֶ֖רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִֽי׃ha.'e.mo.RiH567.

32After Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872had sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971spiesלְרַגֵּ֣לle.ra.GelH7270אֶת־'et-H853to Jazerיַעְזֵ֔רya'.ZerH3270,Israel capturedוַֽיִּלְכְּד֖וּvai.yil.ke.DuH3920its villagesבְּנֹתֶ֑יהָbe.no.Tei.haH1323and drove outוַיּ֖וֹרֶשׁvai.yi.reshH3423אֶת־'et-H853the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֥יha.'e.mo.RiH567whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834were thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.
