11Amaziah, howeverוַאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙va.'a.matz.Ya.huH558,summoned his strengthהִתְחַזַּ֔קhit.cha.ZakH2388and ledוַיִּנְהַג֙vai.yin.HagH5090אֶת־'et-H853his troopsעַמּ֔וֹ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְa.Mo vai.Ye.lekhH5971 H1980to the Valley of Saltגֵּ֣יא הַמֶּ֑לַחgei' ha.Me.lachH1516 H4417,where he struck downוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221אֶת־'et-H85310,000עֲשֶׂ֥רֶת אֲלָפִֽים׃'a.Se.ret 'a.la.FimH6235 H505menבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Seirשֵׂעִ֖ירse.'IrH8165,

12and the armyבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063also capturedשָׁבוּ֙sha.VuH761710,000וַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶת אֲלָפִ֜יםva.'a.Se.ret 'a.la.FimH6235 H505menaliveחַיִּ֗יםchai.YimH2416.They took themוַיְבִיא֖וּםvay.vi.'UmH935to the topלְרֹ֣אשׁle.RoshH7218of a cliffמֵֽרֹאשׁ־me.rosh-H5553 H7218and threw them downוַיַּשְׁלִיכ֛וּםvai.yash.li.KhumH7993so that allוְכֻלָּ֥םve.khu.LamH3605were dashed to piecesנִבְקָֽעוּ׃ סniv.Ka.'uH1234.

13Meanwhileוּבְנֵ֣יu.ve.NeiH1121the troopsהַגְּד֗וּדha.ge.DudH1416thatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558had dismissedהֵשִׁ֤יבhe.ShivH7725from battleמִלֶּ֤כֶת עִמּוֹ֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔הmi.Le.khet i.Mo la.mil.cha.MahH1980 H5973 H4421raidedוַֽיִּפְשְׁטוּ֙vai.yif.she.TuH6584the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,from Samariaמִשֹּׁמְר֖וֹןmi.sho.me.RonH8111toוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704Beth-horonH1032.They struck downוַיַּכּ֤וּvai.ya.KuH52213,000שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֔יםshe.Lo.shet 'a.la.FimH7969 H505peopleand carried offוַיָּבֹ֖זּוּvai.ya.Vo.zuH962a great deal ofרַבָּֽה׃ סra.BahH7227plunderבִּזָּ֥הbi.ZahH961.

14וַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961Whenאַחֲרֵ֨י'a.cha.ReiH310Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558returnedב֤וֹאVo'H935from the slaughterמֵֽהַכּ֣וֹתme.ha.KotH5221ofאֶת־'et-H853the Edomitesאֲדוֹמִ֔ים'a.do.MimH130,he brought backוַיָּבֵ֗אvai.ya.Ve'H935אֶת־'et-H853the godsאֱלֹהֵי֙'e.lo.HeiH430of the Seiritesבְּנֵ֣י שֵׂעִ֔ירbe.Nei se.'IrH1121 H8165,set them upוַיַּֽעֲמִידֵ֥םvai.ya.'a.mi.DemH5975as his owngodsלֵאלֹהִ֑יםle.lo.HimH430,bowedיִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖הyish.ta.cha.VehH7812before themוְלִפְנֵיהֶ֥םve.lif.nei.HemH6440,and burned sacrificesיְקַטֵּֽר׃ye.ka.TerH6999to them.

15Therefore the angerאַ֥ף'afH639of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734against Amaziahבַּאֲמַצְיָ֑הוּba.'a.matz.Ya.huH558,and He sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971himאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413a prophetנָבִ֔יאna.Vi'H5030,who saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100have you soughtדָרַ֙שְׁתָּ֙da.Rash.taH1875אֶת־'et-H853this people’sהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971godsאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430,whichאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834could notלֹא־lo'-H3808deliverהִצִּ֥ילוּhi.Tzi.luH5337אֶת־'et-H853themעַמָּ֖ם'a.MamH5971from your handמִיָּדֶֽךָ׃mi.ya.De.khaH3027?”

16וַיְהִ֣י׀vay.HiH1961While he was still speakingבְּדַבְּר֣וֹbe.da.be.RoH1696אֵלָ֗יו'e.LavH413,the king askedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Have we made youנְתַנּ֔וּךָne.ta.Nu.khaH5414the counselorהַלְיוֹעֵ֤ץhal.yo.'EtzH3289to the kingלַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙la.Me.lekhH4428?Stopחֲדַל־cha.dal-H2308!Whyלָ֣מָּהLa.mahH4100be struck downיַכּ֑וּךָya.Ku.khaH5221?”So the prophetהַנָּבִ֗יאha.na.Vi'H5030stoppedוַיֶּחְדַּ֣לvai.yech.DalH2308,but he saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “I knowיָדַ֗עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430has determinedיָעַ֤ץya.'AtzH3289to destroy youלְהַשְׁחִיתֶ֔ךָle.hash.chi.Te.khaH7843,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588you have doneעָשִׂ֣יתָ'a.Si.taH6213thisזֹּ֔אתZotH2063and have notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808heededשָׁמַ֖עְתָּsha.Ma'.taH8085my adviceלַעֲצָתִֽי׃ פla.'a.tza.TiH6098.”

17Then Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063took counselוַיִּוָּעַ֗ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289and sentוַ֠יִּשְׁלַחVai.yish.lachH7971word toאֶל־'el-H413the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478Jehoashיוֹאָ֨שׁyo.'AshH3101sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehoahazיְהוֹאָחָ֧זye.ho.'a.ChazH3059,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehuיֵה֛וּאye.Hu'H3058. “Comeלְכָ֖הle.khahH1980,let us meetנִתְרָאֶ֥הnit.ra.'EhH7200face to faceפָנִֽים׃fa.NimH6440,”he saidלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559.

18But Jehoashיוֹאָ֣שׁyo.'AshH3101kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478repliedוַיִּשְׁלַ֞חvai.yish.LachH7971toאֶל־'el-H413Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָה֮ye.hu.DahH3063לֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559: “A thistleהַח֜וֹחַha.Cho.achH2336אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנ֗וֹןba.le.va.NonH3844sentשָׁ֠לַחSha.lachH7971a message toאֶל־'el-H413a cedarהָאֶ֜רֶזha.'E.rezH730אֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנוֹן֙ba.le.va.nOnH3844,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘Giveתְּנָֽה־te.nah-H5414אֶת־'et-H853your daughterבִּתְּךָ֥bi.te.KhaH1323to my sonלִבְנִ֖יliv.NiH1121in marriageלְאִשָּׁ֑הle.'i.ShahH802.’Then a wildהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704beastחַיַּ֤תchai.YatH2416אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנ֔וֹןba.le.va.NonH3844came alongוַֽתַּעֲבֹ֞רva.ta.'a.VorH5674and trampledוַתִּרְמֹ֖סva.tir.MosH7429אֶת־'et-H853the thistleהַחֽוֹחַ׃ha.Cho.achH2336.

19You have saidאָמַ֗רְתָּ'a.Mar.taH559, ‘Lookהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,I have defeatedהִכִּ֙יתָ֙hi.Ki.taH5221אֶת־'et-H853Edomאֱד֔וֹם'e.DomH123,’and your heartלִבְּךָ֖li.be.KhaH3820has become proudוּנְשָׂאֲךָ֥u.ne.sa.'a.KhaH5375and boastfulלְהַכְבִּ֑ידle.hakh.BidH3513.Nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258stayשְׁבָ֣הshe.VahH3427at homeבְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָbe.vei.Te.khaH1004.Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100should you stir upתִתְגָּרֶה֙tit.ga.RehH1624troubleבְּרָעָ֔הbe.ra.'AhH7451so that you fallאַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH859—youוְנָ֣פַלְתָּ֔ve.Na.fal.taH5307and Judahוִיהוּדָ֥הvi.hu.DahH3063with youעִמָּֽךְ׃'i.MakhH5973?”

20But Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֔הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558would notוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808listenשָׁמַ֣עsha.Ma'H8085,forכִּ֤יkiH3588thisהִ֔יאHi'H1931had comefrom Godמֵהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙me.ha.'E.lo.HimH430in order toלְמַ֖עַןle.Ma.'anH4616deliver themתִּתָּ֣םti.TamH5414into the handבְּיָ֑דbe.YadH3027of Jehoash,becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588they had soughtדָֽרְשׁ֔וּda.re.ShuH1875אֵ֖ת'etH853the godsאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of Edomאֱדֽוֹם׃'e.DomH123.

21So Jehoashיוֹאָ֤שׁyo.'AshH3101kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478advancedוַיַּ֨עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927,and heה֖וּאhu'H1931and Amaziahוַאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּva.'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063facedפָנִ֔יםfa.NimH6440each otherוַיִּתְרָא֣וּvai.yit.ra.'UH7200at Beth-shemeshH1053אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834in Judahלִיהוּדָֽה׃li.hu.DahH3063.

22And Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063was routedוַיִּנָּ֥גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and every manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127to his own homeלְאֹהָלָֽיו׃le.'o.ha.LavH168.
