Law of Cleansing a Person with Leprosy

1Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֥הmo.ShehH4872,sayingלֵּאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2“ThisH2088shall be the lawתּוֹרַ֣תto.RatH8451of the personH6879withH6879leprosyH6879on the dayבְּי֖וֹםbe.YomH3117of his cleansingטָהֳרָת֑וֹto.ho.ra.ToH2893.Now he shall be broughtוְהוּבָ֖אve.hu.Va'H935to the priestהַכֹּהֵֽן׃ha.ko.HenH3548;

3and the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548shall goוְיָצָא֙ve.ya.Tza'H3318outH3318to a placeoutsideמִח֖וּץ מִן־mi.Chutz min-H4480 H2351of the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הla.ma.cha.NehH4264.Then the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548shall lookוְרָאָה֙ve.ra.'AhH7200,and ifוְהִנֵּ֛הve.hi.NehH2009theleprousהַצָּרַ֖עַתha.tza.Ra.'atH6883infectionנֶֽגַע־ne.ga'-H5061has been healedנִרְפָּ֥אnir.Pa'H7495in the personH6879withH6879leprosyH6879,

4then the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548shall giveH6680ordersH6680to takeוְלָקַ֧חve.la.KachH3947twoשְׁתֵּֽי־she.tei-H8147liveחַיּ֖וֹתchai.YotH2416cleanטְהֹר֑וֹתte.ho.RotH2889birdsצִפֳּרִ֥יםtzi.po.RimH6833,cedarאֶ֔רֶז'E.rezH730woodוְעֵ֣ץve.'EtzH6086, ascarletוּשְׁנִ֥יu.she.NiH8144stringH8439,and hyssopוְאֵזֹֽב׃ve.'e.ZoH231for the one who is to be cleansedלַמִּטַּהֵ֛רla.mi.ta.HerH2891.

5The priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548shall also giveH6680ordersH6680to slaughterוְשָׁחַ֖טve.sha.ChatH7819the oneהָאֶחָ֑תha.'e.ChatH259birdהַצִּפּ֣וֹרha.tzi.PorH6833in an earthenwareחֶ֖רֶשׂChe.resH2789vesselכְּלִי־ke.li-H3627overעַל־'al-H5921runningחַיִּֽים׃chai.YimH2416waterמַ֥יִםMa.yimH4325.

6As forthe liveהַֽחַיָּה֙ha.chai.YahH2416birdהַצִּפֹּ֤רha.tzi.PorH6833,he shall takeיִקַּ֣חyi.KachH3947it together withthe cedarהָאֶ֛רֶזha.'E.rezH730woodעֵ֥ץ'etzH6086, thescarletשְׁנִ֥יshe.NiH8144stringH8439, and thehyssopהָאֵזֹ֑בha.'e.ZoH231,and shall dipוְטָבַ֨לve.ta.ValH2881them and the liveהַֽחַיָּ֗הha.chai.YahH2416birdהַצִּפֹּ֣רha.tzi.PorH6833in the bloodבְּדַם֙be.DamH1818of the birdהַצִּפֹּ֣רha.tzi.PorH6833that was slaughteredהַשְּׁחֻטָ֔הha.she.chu.TahH7819overעַ֖ל'alH5921therunningהַֽחַיִּֽים׃Ha.chai.YimH2416waterהַמַּ֥יִםha.Ma.yimH4325.

7He shall then sprinkleוְהִזָּ֗הve.hi.ZahH5137sevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651timesפְּעָמִ֑יםpe.'a.MimH6471the one who is to be cleansedH2891from the leprosyהַצָּרַ֖עַתha.tza.Ra.'atH6883and shall pronounceH2891him cleanH2891,and shall let the liveהַֽחַיָּ֖הha.chai.YahH2416birdהַצִּפֹּ֥רha.tzi.PorH6833goוְשִׁלַּ֛חve.shi.LachH7971freeH7971overH5921the openפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440fieldהַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ha.sa.DehH7704.

8The one to be cleansedH2891shall then washוְכִבֶּס֩ve.khi.BesH3526his clothesבְּגָדָ֜יוbe.ga.DavH899and shaveוְגִלַּ֣חve.gi.LachH1548offH1548allכָּל־kol-H3605his hairשְׂעָר֗וֹse.'a.RoH8181,and batheוְרָחַ֤ץve.ra.ChatzH7364in waterבַּמַּ֙יִם֙ba.Ma.yimH4325andbeH2891cleanH2891.And afterwardוְאַחַ֖רve.'a.CharH310he may enterיָב֣וֹאya.Vo'H935the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הha.ma.cha.NehH4264, but heshall stayוְיָשַׁ֛בve.ya.ShavH3427outsideמִח֥וּץmi.ChutzH4480 H2351his tentלְאָהֳל֖וֹle.'o.ho.LoH168for sevenשִׁבְעַ֥תshiv.'AtH7651daysיָמִֽים׃ya.MimH3117.

9Then it shall be on the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִ֜יha.she.vi.'IH7637dayבַיּ֨וֹםvai.YomH3117that he shall shaveH1548offH1548allכָּל־kol-H3605his hairשְׂעָר֗וֹse.'a.RoH8181:he shall shaveH1548his headרֹאשׁ֤וֹro.ShoH7218and his beardזְקָנוֹ֙ze.ka.NoH2206and his eyebrowsגַּבֹּ֣ת עֵינָ֔יוga.Bot 'ei.NavH5869 H1354,even allכָּל־kol-H3605his hairשְׂעָר֖וֹse.'a.RoH8181.He shall then washוְכִבֶּ֣סve.khi.BesH3526his clothesבְּגָדָ֗יוbe.ga.DavH899and batheוְרָחַ֧ץve.ra.ChatzH7364hisbodyבְּשָׂר֛וֹbe.sa.RoH1320in waterבַּמַּ֖יִםba.Ma.yimH4325andbeH2891cleanH2891.

10“Now on the eighthהַשְּׁמִינִ֗יha.she.mi.NiH8066dayוּבַיּ֣וֹםu.vai.YomH3117he is to takeיִקַּ֤חyi.KachH3947twoשְׁנֵֽי־she.nei-H8147maleכְבָשִׂים֙khe.va.SimH3532lambsH3532withoutH8549defectH8549,and a yearlingשְׁנָתָ֖הּshe.na.TahH8141eweH3535lambH3535withoutH8549defectH8549,and three-tenthsוּשְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה עֶשְׂרֹנִ֗יםu.she.lo.Shah 'es.ro.NimH7969 H6241of an ephahof fineסֹ֤לֶתSo.letH5560flourH5560mixedבְּלוּלָ֣הbe.lu.LahH1101with oilבַשֶּׁ֔מֶןva.She.menH8081as a grain offeringמִנְחָה֙min.ChahH4503,and oneH259logוְלֹ֥גve.LogH3849of oilשָֽׁמֶן׃Sha.menH8081;

11and the priestהַכֹּהֵ֣ןha.ko.HenH3548who is going to pronounceH2891himcleanH2891shall presentוְהֶעֱמִ֞ידve.he.'e.MidH5975the personהָאִ֥ישׁha.'IshH376to be cleansedH2891andthe offerings beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068at the doorwayפֶּ֖תַחPe.tachH6607of the tentאֹ֥הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵֽד׃mo.'EdH4150.

12Then the priestהַכֹּהֵ֜ןha.ko.HenH3548shall takeוְלָקַ֨חve.la.KachH3947the oneהָאֶחָ֗דha.'e.ChadH259maleהַכֶּ֣בֶשׂha.Ke.vesH3532lambH3532and bringוְהִקְרִ֥יבve.hik.RivH7126it as aguiltלְאָשָׁ֖םle.'a.ShamH817offeringH817, with thelogלֹ֣גlogH3849of oilהַשָּׁ֑מֶןha.Sha.menH8081,and presentוְהֵנִ֥יףve.he.NifH5130them as awaveH8573offeringH8573beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

13Next he shall slaughterוְשָׁחַ֣טve.sha.ChatH7819the maleהַכֶּ֗בֶשׂha.Ke.vesH3532lambH3532inthe placeבִּ֠מְקוֹםBim.komH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834they slaughterיִשְׁחַ֧טyish.ChatH7819thesinהַֽחַטָּ֛אתha.cha.TatH2403offeringכַּ֠חַטָּאתKa.cha.tatH2403and the burntהָעֹלָ֖הha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930,at the placeבִּמְק֣וֹםbim.KomH4725of the sanctuaryהַקֹּ֑דֶשׁha.Ko.deshH6944--for the guiltהָאָשָׁ֥םha.'a.ShamH817offeringH817, like thesinH2403offeringH2403,belongs to the priestלַכֹּהֵ֔ןla.ko.HenH3548;it is mostקֹ֥דֶשׁKo.deshH6944holyקָֽדָשִׁ֖יםka.da.ShimH6944.

14The priestהַכֹּהֵן֮ha.ko.HenH3548shall then takeוְלָקַ֣חve.la.KachH3947someH4480of the bloodמִדַּ֣םmi.DamH1818of theguiltהָאָשָׁם֒ha.'a.ShamH817offeringH817,and the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548shall putוְנָתַן֙ve.na.TanH5414it onthe lobeתְּנ֛וּךְte.NukhH8571of the rightהַיְמָנִ֑יתhay.ma.NitH3233earאֹ֥זֶן'O.zenH241of the one to be cleansedהַמִּטַּהֵ֖רha.mi.ta.HerH2891,and on the thumbבֹּ֤הֶןBo.henH931of his rightהַיְמָנִ֔יתhay.ma.NitH3233handיָדוֹ֙ya.DoH3027,and on the bigבֹּ֥הֶןBo.henH931toeH931of his rightהַיְמָנִֽית׃hay.ma.NitH3233footרַגְל֖וֹrag.LoH7272.

15The priestH3548shall also takeוְלָקַ֥חve.la.KachH3947someH4480of thelogמִלֹּ֣גmi.LogH3849of oilהַשָּׁ֑מֶןha.Sha.menH8081,and pourוְיָצַ֛קve.ya.TzakH3332itinto his leftהַשְּׂמָאלִֽית׃ha.se.ma.LitH8042palmכַּ֥ףkafH3709;

16the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548shall then dipוְטָבַ֤לve.ta.ValH2881his right-handהַיְמָנִ֔יתhay.ma.NitH3233fingerאֶצְבָּע֣וֹ'etz.ba.'OH676into the oilהַשֶּׁ֕מֶןha.She.menH8081that is in his leftהַשְּׂמָאלִ֑יתha.se.ma.LitH8042palmכַּפּ֖וֹka.PoH3709,and with his fingerבְּאֶצְבָּע֛וֹbe.'etz.ba.'OH676sprinkleוְהִזָּ֨הve.hi.ZahH5137someH4480of the oilהַשֶּׁ֧מֶןha.She.menH8081sevenשֶׁ֥בַעShe.va'H7651timesפְּעָמִ֖יםpe.'a.MimH6471beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

18as for the restוְהַנּוֹתָ֗רve.ha.no.TarH3498of the oilבַּשֶּׁ֙מֶן֙ba.She.menH8081that is in the priest’sהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548palmכַּ֣ףkafH3709,he shall putיִתֵּ֖ןyi.TenH5414iton the headרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of the one to be cleansedהַמִּטַּהֵ֑רha.mi.ta.HerH2891.So the priestהַכֹּהֵ֖ןha.ko.HenH3548shall makeוְכִפֶּ֥רve.khi.PerH3722atonementH3722onH5921his behalfH5921beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

19The priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548shall next offerוְעָשָׂ֤הve.'a.SahH6213thesinהַ֣חַטָּ֔אתha.cha.TatH2403offeringH2403and makeוְכִפֶּ֕רve.khi.PerH3722atonementH3722for the one to be cleansedהַמִּטַּהֵ֖רha.mi.ta.HerH2891from his uncleannessמִטֻּמְאָת֑וֹmi.tum.'a.ToH2932.Then afterwardוְאַחַ֖רve.'a.CharH310,he shall slaughterיִשְׁחַ֥טyish.ChatH7819the burntהָעֹלָֽה׃ha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930.

20The priestהַכֹּהֵ֛ןha.ko.HenH3548shall offerוְהֶעֱלָ֧הve.he.'e.LahH5927upH5927the burntהָעֹלָ֥הha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930and the grain offeringהַמִּנְחָ֖הha.min.ChahH4503on the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֑חָהha.miz.Be.chahH4196.So the priestהַכֹּהֵ֖ןha.ko.HenH3548shall makeוְכִפֶּ֥רve.khi.PerH3722atonementH3722for him, andhe will beH2891cleanוְטָהֵֽר׃ סve.ta.HerH2891.

21“But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518he is poorדַּ֣לdalH1800and hismeansיָדוֹ֮ya.DoH3027areH369insufficientמַשֶּׂגֶת֒ma.se.GetH369 H5381,then he is to takeוְ֠לָקַחVe.la.kachH3947oneH259maleכֶּ֣בֶשׂKe.vesH3532lambH3532for aguiltאָשָׁ֛ם'a.ShamH817offeringH817as a waveH8573offeringH8573to makeלְכַפֵּ֣רle.kha.PerH3722atonementH3722for him, and a tenthוְעִשָּׂר֨וֹןve.'i.sa.RonH6241of an ephahof fineסֹ֜לֶתSo.letH5560flourH5560mixedבָּל֥וּלba.LulH1101with oilבַּשֶּׁ֛מֶןba.She.menH8081as a grain offeringלְמִנְחָ֖הle.min.ChahH4503, and alogוְלֹ֥גve.LogH3849of oilשָֽׁמֶן׃Sha.menH8081,

22and twoוּשְׁתֵּ֣יu.she.TeiH8147turtledovesתֹרִ֗יםto.RimH8449orא֤וֹ'oH176twoשְׁנֵי֙she.NeiH8147youngבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121dovesיוֹנָ֔הyo.NahH3123,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834areH5381withinH5381his meansיָד֑וֹya.DoH3027.The oneאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259shall be asinחַטָּ֔אתcha.TatH2403offeringH2403,and the otherוְהָאֶחָ֖דve.ha.'e.ChadH259a burntעֹלָֽה׃'o.LahH5930offeringH5930.

24The priestהַכֹּהֵ֛ןha.ko.HenH3548shall takeוְלָקַ֧חve.la.KachH3947the lambכֶּ֥בֶשׂKe.vesH3532of the guiltהָאָשָׁ֖םha.'a.ShamH817offeringH817and thelogלֹ֣גlogH3849of oilהַשָּׁ֑מֶןha.Sha.menH8081,and the priestהַכֹּהֵ֛ןha.ko.HenH3548shall offerוְהֵנִ֨יףve.he.NifH5130them as a waveH8573offeringH8573beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

25Next he shall slaughterוְשָׁחַט֮ve.sha.ChatH7819the lambכֶּ֣בֶשׂKe.vesH3532of the guiltהָֽאָשָׁם֒ha.'a.ShamH817offeringהָֽאָשָׁ֔םha.'a.ShamH817;and the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548is to takeוְלָקַ֤חve.la.KachH3947someH4480of the bloodמִדַּ֣םmi.DamH1818of the guiltH817offeringH817and putוְנָתַ֛ןve.na.TanH5414it onthe lobeתְּנ֥וּךְte.NukhH8571of the rightהַיְמָנִ֑יתhay.ma.NitH3233earאֹֽזֶן־'o.zen-H241of the one to be cleansedהַמִּטַּהֵ֖רha.mi.ta.HerH2891,and on the thumbבֹּ֤הֶןBo.henH931of his rightהַיְמָנִ֔יתhay.ma.NitH3233handיָדוֹ֙ya.DoH3027,and on the bigבֹּ֥הֶןBo.henH931toeH931of his rightהַיְמָנִֽית׃hay.ma.NitH3233footרַגְל֖וֹrag.LoH7272.

26The priestH3548shall also pourיִצֹ֣קyi.TzokH3332someוּמִן־u.min-H4480of the oilהַשֶּׁ֖מֶןha.She.menH8081into his leftהַשְּׂמָאלִֽית׃ha.se.ma.LitH8042palmכַּ֥ףkafH3709;

27and with his right-handהַיְמָנִ֔יתhay.ma.NitH3233fingerבְּאֶצְבָּע֣וֹbe.'etz.ba.'OH676the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548shall sprinkleוְהִזָּ֤הve.hi.ZahH5137someמִן־min-H4480of the oilהַשֶּׁ֕מֶןha.She.menH8081that is in his leftהַשְּׂמָאלִ֑יתha.se.ma.LitH8042palmכַּפּ֖וֹka.PoH3709sevenשֶׁ֥בַעShe.va'H7651timesפְּעָמִ֖יםpe.'a.MimH6471beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

29Moreover, the restוְהַנּוֹתָ֗רve.ha.no.TarH3498of the oilהַשֶּׁ֙מֶן֙ha.She.menH8081that is in the priest’sהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548palmכַּ֣ףkafH3709,he shall putיִתֵּ֖ןyi.TenH5414on the headרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of the one to be cleansedהַמִּטַּהֵ֑רha.mi.ta.HerH2891,to makeלְכַפֵּ֥רle.kha.PerH3722atonementH3722onH5921his behalfH5921beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

30He shall then offerוְעָשָׂ֤הve.'a.SahH6213oneהָֽאֶחָד֙ha.'e.ChadH259of the turtledovesהַתֹּרִ֔יםha.to.RimH8449orא֖וֹ'oH176youngבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121dovesהַיּוֹנָ֑הhai.yo.NahH3123,whichמֵאֲשֶׁ֥רme.'a.SherH834areH5381withinH5381his meansיָדֽוֹ׃ya.DoH3027.

31He shall offerwhatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834he can affordתַּשִּׂ֞יג יָד֗וֹta.Sig ya.DoH5381 H3027,the oneהָאֶחָ֥דha.'e.ChadH259as asinחַטָּ֛אתcha.TatH2403offeringH2403and the otherהָאֶחָ֥דha.'e.ChadH259as a burntעֹלָ֖ה'o.LahH5930offeringH5930,togetherH5921with the grain offeringהַמִּנְחָ֑הha.min.ChahH4503.So the priestהַכֹּהֵ֛ןha.ko.HenH3548shall makeוְכִפֶּ֧רve.khi.PerH3722atonementH3722beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068onH5921behalfH5921ofH5921the one to be cleansedהַמִּטַּהֵ֖רha.mi.ta.HerH2891.

32ThisH2088is the lawתּוֹרַ֔תto.RatH8451for himin whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834there is an infectionנֶ֣גַעNe.ga'H5061of leprosyצָרָ֑עַתtza.Ra.'atH6883,whoseאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834meansיָד֖וֹya.DoH3027areH5381limitedלֹֽא־lo'-H3808 H5381for his cleansingבְּטָהֳרָתֽוֹ׃ פbe.to.ho.ra.ToH2893.”

Cleansing a Leprous House

33The Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068further spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֥הmo.ShehH4872and to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן'a.ha.RonH175,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559:
