11Moreover, the arkוַאֲר֥וֹןva.'a.RonH727of Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430was takenנִלְקָ֑חnil.KachH3947; andthe twoוּשְׁנֵ֤יu.she.NeiH8147sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Eliעֵלִי֙'e.LiH5941,Hophniחָפְנִ֖יcha.fe.NiH2652and Phinehasוּפִֽינְחָֽס׃u.Fi.ne.ChasH6372,diedמֵ֔תוּMe.tuH4191.

12Now a manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִן֙bin.ya.MinH1144ranוַיָּ֤רָץvai.Ya.rotzH7323from the battleמֵהַמַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔הme.ha.Ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634lineH4634and cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Shilohשִׁלֹ֖הshi.LohH7887the sameהַה֑וּאha.Hu'H1931dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117withhis clothesוּמַדָּ֣יוu.ma.DavH4055tornקְרֻעִ֔יםke.ru.'ImH7167, anddustוַאֲדָמָ֖הva.'a.da.MahH127on his headרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃ro.ShoH7218.

13When he cameוַיָּב֗וֹאvai.ya.Vo'H935,beholdוְהִנֵּ֣הve.hi.NehH2009,Eliעֵ֠לִי'E.liH5941was sittingיֹשֵׁ֨בyo.ShevH3427on hisseatהַכִּסֵּ֜אha.ki.Se'H3678by the roadדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙de.rekhH1870keepingH6822watchמְצַפֶּ֔הme.tza.PehH6822,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588his heartלִבּוֹ֙li.BoH3820was anxiousחָרֵ֔דcha.RedH2730aboutH5921the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.And the manוְהָאִ֗ישׁve.ha.'IshH376cameבָּ֚אba'H935to giveH5046aH5046reportH5046in the cityבָּעִ֔ירba.'IrH5892,and allכָּל־kol-H3605the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892criedH2199outH2199.

14When Eliעֵלִי֙'e.LiH5941heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֤עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the noiseק֣וֹלKolH6963of the outcryהַצְּעָקָ֔הha.tze.'a.KahH6818,he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatמֶ֛הmehH4100doesthe noiseק֥וֹלKolH6963of thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088commotionהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995mean?”Then the manוְהָאִ֣ישׁve.ha.'IshH376cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935hurriedlyמִהַ֔רmi.HarH4116and toldוַיַּגֵּ֥דvai.ya.GedH5046Eliלְעֵלִֽי׃le.'e.LiH5941.

15Now Eliוְעֵלִ֕יve.'e.LiH5941was ninety-eightתִּשְׁעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖הtish.'Im u.she.mo.NehH8673 H8083yearsשָׁנָ֑הsha.NahH8141oldבֶּן־ben-H1121, andhis eyesוְעֵינָ֣יוve.'ei.NavH5869werefixedקָ֔מָהKa.mahH6965and he couldיָכ֖וֹלya.KholH3201not seeלִרְאֽוֹת׃lir.'otH7200.

16The manהָאִ֜ישׁha.'IshH376saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Eliעֵלִ֗י'e.LiH5941, “I am the one who cameהַבָּ֣אha.Ba'H935from the battleהַמַּעֲרָכָ֔הha.ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634lineהַמַּעֲרָכָ֖הha.ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634.Indeed, I escapedנַ֣סְתִּיNas.tiH5127from the battleH4634lineH4634todayהַיּ֑וֹםhai.YomH3117.”And he saidוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Howמֶֽה־meh-H4100are thingsהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697,my sonבְּנִֽי׃be.NiH1121?”

17Then the one who broughtH1319the newsהַֽמְבַשֵּׂ֜רham.va.SerH1319repliedוַיַּ֨עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030, “Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478has fledנָ֤סnasH5127beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430and there has alsoוְגַ֛םve.GamH1571beenהָיְתָ֣הha.ye.TahH1961a greatגְדוֹלָ֖הge.do.LahH1419defeatמַגֵּפָ֥הma.ge.FahH4046among the peopleבָעָ֑םva.'AmH5971,and your twoשְׁנֵ֨יshe.NeiH8147sonsבָנֶ֜יךָva.Nei.khaH1121,Hophniחָפְנִי֙cha.fe.NiH2652and Phinehasוּפִ֣ינְחָ֔סu.Fin.ChasH6372are alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571deadמֵ֗תוּMe.tuH4191;and the arkוַאֲר֥וֹןva.'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430has been takenנִלְקָֽחָה׃ פnil.Ka.chahH3947.”

18When he mentionedכְּהַזְכִּיר֣וֹ׀ke.haz.ki.RoH2142the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,Eli fellוַיִּפֹּ֣לvai.yi.PolH5307offמֵֽעַל־me.'al-H4480 H5921the seatהַ֠כִּסֵּאHa.ki.se'H3678backwardאֲחֹ֨רַנִּ֜ית'a.Cho.ra.NitH322besideיַ֣דyadH5704 H3027the gateהַשַּׁ֗עַרha.Sha.'arH8179,and his neckמַפְרַקְתּוֹ֙maf.rak.ToH4665was brokenוַתִּשָּׁבֵ֤רva.ti.sha.VerH7665and he diedוַיָּמֹ֔תvai.ya.MotH4191, forhe wasH2204oldזָקֵ֥ןza.KenH2204and heavyוְכָבֵ֑דve.kha.VedH3515. 19Now his daughter-in-lawוְכַלָּת֣וֹve.kha.la.ToH3618,Phinehas’פִּינְחָס֮pi.ne.ChasH6372wifeאֵֽשֶׁת־'e.shet-H802,was pregnantהָרָ֣הha.RahH2030and aboutto giveלָלַת֒la.LatH3205birthוַתֵּ֔לֶדva.Te.ledH3205;and when she heardוַתִּשְׁמַ֣עva.tish.Ma'H8085the newsהַשְּׁמֻעָ֔הha.she.mu.'AhH8052that the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430had been takenהִלָּקַח֙hi.la.KachH3947and that her father-in-lawחָמִ֖יהָcha.Mi.haH2524and her husbandוְאִישָׁ֑הּve.'i.ShahH376had diedוּמֵ֥תu.MetH4191,she kneeledH3766downוַתִּכְרַ֣עva.tikh.Ra'H3766and gaveH3205birthH3205,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588her painsצִרֶֽיהָ׃tzi.Rei.haH6735cameנֶהֶפְכ֥וּne.hef.KhuH2015upon her.

20And about the timeוּכְעֵ֣תu.khe.'EtH6256of her deathמוּתָ֗הּmu.TahH4191the women who were standingהַנִּצָּב֣וֹתha.ni.tza.VotH5324by her saidוַתְּדַבֵּ֙רְנָה֙va.te.da.Be.re.nahH1696to her, “Do not beH3372afraidתִּֽירְאִ֖יtir.'IH3372,for you have givenH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵ֣ןvenH1121.”But she did not answerעָנְתָ֖ה'a.ne.TahH6030or payשָׁ֥תָהSha.tahH7896attentionלִבָּֽהּ׃li.BahH3820.

21And she namedוַתִּקְרָ֣אva.tik.Ra'H7121the boyלַנַּ֗עַרla.Na.'arH5288IchabodH350,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “The gloryכָב֖וֹדkha.VodH3519has departedגָּלָ֥הga.LahH1540from Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,”becauseאֶל־'el-H413the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430had been takenהִלָּקַח֙hi.la.KachH3947and becauseוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413of her father-in-lawחָמִ֖יהָcha.Mi.haH2524and her husbandוְאִישָֽׁהּ׃ve.'i.ShahH376.

22So she saidוַתֹּ֕אמֶרva.To.merH559, “The gloryכָב֖וֹדkha.VodH3519has departedגָּלָ֥הga.LahH1540from Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588the arkאֲר֥וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ פha.'E.lo.HimH430has been takenנִלְקַ֖חnil.KachH3947.”
