1Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586, “The Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sentשָׁלַ֤חsha.LachH7971me to anointלִמְשָׁחֳךָ֣lim.sho.cho.KhaH4886you as kingלְמֶ֔לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921His peopleעַמּ֖וֹa.MoH5971,overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478;nowוְעַתָּ֣הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, listenשְׁמַ֔עshe.Ma'H8085to thewordsדִּבְרֵ֥יdiv.ReiH1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.

2ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068of armiesצְבָא֔וֹתtze.va.'otH6635saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: ‘I willpunishפָּקַ֕דְתִּיpa.Kad.tiH6485Amalekעֲמָלֵ֖ק'a.ma.LekH6002forwhatH834he didעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213to Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לle.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,in that he obstructedשָׂ֥םsamH7760him on the wayבַּדֶּ֔רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870while he was comingH5927upH5927from Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

3Nowעַתָּה֩'a.TahH6258goלֵ֨ךְlekhH1980and strikeוְהִכִּֽיתָ֜הve.hi.ki.TahH5221Amalekעֲמָלֵ֗ק'a.ma.LekH6002andcompletelyH2763destroyוְהַֽחֲרַמְתֶּם֙ve.ha.cha.ram.TemH2763everythingכָּל־kol-H3605that he has, and do not spareתַחְמֹ֖לtach.MolH2550him; butputוְהֵמַתָּ֞הve.he.ma.TahH4191toH4191deathH4191bothH4480manמֵאִ֣ישׁme.'IshH376and womanאִשָּׁ֗ה'i.ShahH802,childמֵֽעֹלֵל֙me.'o.LelH5768and infantיוֹנֵ֔קyo.NekH3243,oxמִשּׁ֣וֹרmi.ShorH7794and sheepשֶׂ֔הSehH7716,camelמִגָּמָ֖לmi.ga.MalH1581and donkeyחֲמֽוֹר׃ סcha.MorH2543.’”

4Then Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586summonedוַיְשַׁמַּ֤עvay.sha.Ma'H8085the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971andcountedוַֽיִּפְקְדֵם֙vai.yif.ke.DemH6485them inTelaimבַּטְּלָאִ֔יםba.te.la.'ImH2923:twoמָאתַ֥יִםma.Ta.yimH3967hundredH3967thousandאֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505footרַגְלִ֑יrag.LiH7273soldiersH7273and tenוַעֲשֶׂ֥רֶתva.'a.Se.retH6235thousandאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505menאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376of Judahיְהוּדָֽה׃ye.hu.DahH3063.

5And Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to the cityעִ֣יר'irH5892of Amalekעֲמָלֵ֑ק'a.ma.LekH6002and setH693anH693ambushH693in thewadiבַּנָּֽחַל׃ba.Na.chalH5158.

6But Saulשָׁא֣וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559tothe Kenitesהַקֵּינִ֡יha.kei.NiH7017, “Goלְכוּ֩le.KhuH1980,getH5493awayH5493,goרְד֜וּre.DuH3381downH3381from amongמִתּ֣וֹךְmi.TokhH8432the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵקִ֗י'a.mal.KiH6003,so that I do not destroyאֹֽסִפְךָ֙'o.sif.KhaH622you alongעִמּ֔וֹi.MoH5973withעִם־'im-H5973them; foryou showedעָשִׂ֤יתָה'a.Si.tahH6213kindnessחֶ֙סֶד֙che.sedH2617to allכָּל־kol-H3605the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478when they wentH5927upH5927from Egyptמִמִּצְרָ֑יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.”So the Kenitesקֵינִ֖יkei.NiH7017gotH5493awayH5493from amongמִתּ֥וֹךְmi.TokhH8432the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵֽק׃'a.ma.LekH6002.

7ThenSaulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586defeatedוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵ֑ק'a.ma.LekH6002, fromHavilahמֵֽחֲוִילָה֙me.cha.vi.LahH2341goingבּוֹאֲךָ֣bo.'a.KhaH935towardShurשׁ֔וּרShurH7793,whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834iseastעַל־ פְּנֵ֥י'al- pe.NeiH5921 H6440of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

8He capturedוַיִּתְפֹּ֛שׂvai.yit.PosH8610Agagאֲגַ֥ג'a.GagH90the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵ֖ק'a.ma.LekH6002aliveחָ֑יChaiH2416, andcompletelyH2763destroyedהֶחֱרִ֥יםhe.che.RimH2763allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃Cha.revH2719.

9But Saulשָׁא֨וּלsha.'UlH7586and the peopleוְהָעָ֜םve.ha.'AmH5971sparedוַיַּחְמֹל֩vai.yach.MolH2550Agagאֲגָ֗ג'a.GagH90and the bestמֵיטַ֣בmei.TavH4315of the sheepהַצֹּאן֩ha.tzoNH6629,the oxenוְהַבָּקָ֨רve.ha.ba.KarH1241,the moreH4932valuableH4932animals,the lambsהַכָּרִים֙ha.ka.RimH3733,and everythingכָּל־kol-H3605that was goodהַטּ֔וֹבha.TovH2896,and were unwillingוְלֹ֥א אָב֖וּve.Lo' 'a.VuH3808 H14to destroyהַחֲרִימָ֑םha.cha.ri.MamH2763them completelyH2763;but everythingוְכָל־ הַמְּלָאכָ֛הve.khol ha.me.la.KhahH3605 H4399despicableH959and weakוְנָמֵ֖סve.na.MesH4549,that they completelyH2763destroyedהֶחֱרִֽימוּ׃ פhe.che.Ri.muH2763.

10Then the wordדְּבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068cameוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

11“I regretנִחַ֗מְתִּיni.Cham.tiH5162that I have madeהִמְלַ֤כְתִּיhim.Lakh.tiH4427Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586kingלְמֶ֔לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428,becauseH3588he has turnedH7725backשָׁב֙shavH7725fromfollowingמֵאַֽחֲרַ֔יme.'a.cha.RaiH310Me and has not carriedH6965outH6965My commandsדְּבָרַ֖יde.va.RaiH1697.”And Samuelלִשְׁמוּאֵ֔לlish.mu.'ElH8050wasH2734furiousH2734andcriedH2199outH2199to the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068allכָּל־kol-H3605nightהַלָּֽיְלָה׃ha.La.ye.lahH3915.

12Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֛לshe.mu.'ElH8050gotH7925upH7925earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֧םvai.yash.KemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֑קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242to meetלִקְרַ֥אתlik.RatH7122Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586;and it was reportedוַיֻּגַּ֨דvai.yu.GadH5046to Samuelלִשְׁמוּאֵ֜לlish.mu.'ElH8050,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Saulשָׁא֤וּלsha.'UlH7586cameבָּֽא־ba'-H935toCarmelהַכַּרְמֶ֙לָה֙ha.kar.Me.lahH3760,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,he setH5324upH5324a monumentיָ֔דYadH3027for himself, then turnedוַיִּסֹּב֙vai.yi.SoH5437and proceededH5674onH5674downוַיֵּ֖רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381toGilgalהַגִּלְגָּֽל׃ha.gil.GalH1537.”

13So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Saulשָׁא֑וּלsha.'UlH7586,and Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Blessedבָּר֤וּךְba.RukhH1288are you of the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068!I have carriedH6965outH6965the commandדְּבַ֥רde.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.”

14But Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatוּמֶ֛הu.MehH4100then is thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088bleatingקֽוֹל־kol-H6963of the sheepהַצֹּ֥אןha.TzonH6629in my earsבְּאָזְנָ֑יbe.'a.ze.NaiH241, and thebellowingוְק֣וֹלve.KolH6963of the oxenהַבָּקָ֔רha.ba.KarH1241whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I hearשֹׁמֵֽעַ׃sho.Me.a'H8085?”

15Saulשָׁא֜וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “They have broughtהֱבִיא֗וּםhe.vi.'UmH935them from the Amalekitesמֵעֲמָלֵקִ֣יme.'a.mal.KiH6003, forthe peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971sparedחָמַ֤לcha.MalH2550the bestמֵיטַ֤בmei.TavH4315of the sheepהַצֹּאן֙ha.tzoNH6629and oxenוְהַבָּקָ֔רve.ha.ba.KarH1241to sacrificeזְבֹ֖חַze.Vo.achH2076to the Lordלַיהוָ֣הla.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430;but the restH3498we have completelyH2763destroyedהֶחֱרַֽמְנוּ׃ סhe.che.Ram.nuH2763.”

16Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Saulשָׁא֔וּלsha.'UlH7586, “Stopהֶ֚רֶףHe.refH7503,and let me informוְאַגִּ֣ידָהve.'a.Gi.dahH5046you of whatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068saidדִּבֶּ֧רdi.BerH1696to me last nightהַלָּ֑יְלָהha.La.ye.lahH3915.”And he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.yo.me.ruH559to him, “Speakדַּבֵּֽר׃ סda.BerH1696!”

17So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Is it not true,thoughאִם־'im-H518you wereinsignificantקָטֹ֤ןka.TonH6996in your own eyesבְּעֵינֶ֔יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869, that you becamethe headרֹ֛אשׁroshH7218of the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֥יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478?For the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068anointedוַיִּמְשָׁחֲךָ֧vai.yim.sha.cha.KhaH4886you as kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.
