Context of Jeremiah 48:41
39“How shattered it is! How they have wailed! How Moab has turned his back--he is ashamed! So Moab will become a laughingstock and an object of terror to all around him.” 40For thus says the Lord: “Behold, one will fly swiftly like an eagle And spread out his wings against Moab. Kerioth has been captured And the strongholds have been seized, So the hearts of the mighty men of Moab in that day Will be like the heart of a woman in labor. 42Moab will be destroyed from being a people Because he has become arrogant toward the Lord. 43Terror, pit and snare are coming upon you, O inhabitant of Moab,” declares the Lord.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-47Verses 14-47 . The destruction of Moab is further prophesied, to awaken them by national repentance and reformation to prevent the trouble, or by a personal repentance and reformation to prepare for it. In reading this long roll of threatenings, and mediating on the terror, it will be of more use to us to keep in view the power of God's anger and the terror of his judgments, and to have our hearts possessed with a holy awe of God and of his wrath, than to…Read the comment

Moab’s land was between the Arnon River and the Zered Brook, east of the Dead Sea. At that time, the Moabites felt confident because they were mostly safe from Babylonian military power.
