Jeremiah 44
Revised Version 1895
1The wordH1697 that cameH1961 to JeremiahH3414 concerning allH3605 the JewsH3064 whichH834 dweltH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, whichH834 dweltH3427 at MigdolH4024, and at TahpanhesH8471, and at Noph, and in the countryH776 of PathrosH6624, sayingH559, 2ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Ye have seenH7200 allH3605 the evilH7451 that I have broughtH935 uponH5921 JerusalemH3389, and uponH5921 allH3605 the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063; and, beholdH2005, this dayH3117 they are a desolationH2723, and noH369 manH3605 dwelleth therein; 3becauseH834 of their wickednessH7451 whichH834 they have committedH6213 to provokeH3707 meH6440 to angerH3707, in that they wentH6440 to burnH6999 incenseH6999, and to serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430, whomH834 they knewH3045 notH3808, neitherH3808 they, norH3808 ye, norH3808 your fathersH1. 4Howbeit I sentH7971 unto youH834 allH3605 my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, risingH7925 upH7925 earlyH7925 and sendingH7971 them, sayingH559, OhH4994, doH6213 notH408 this abominableH8441 thingH1697 that I hateH8130. 5But they hearkened notH3808, norH3808 inclinedH5186 their earH241 to turnH7725 from their wickednessH7451, to burnH6999 noH3808 incenseH6999 unto otherH312 godsH430. 6Wherefore my furyH2534 and mine angerH639 was pouredH5413 forth, and was kindled in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389; and they are wasted and desolateH8077, as it is this dayH3117. 7Therefore nowH6258 thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Wherefore commit ye this greatH1419 evilH7451 againstH413 your ownH376 soulsH5315, to cutH3772 offH3772 from youH859 manH376 and womanH802, infantH3243 and suckling, outH4100 of the midstH8432 of JudahH3063, to leaveH3498 youH859 noneH6635 remainingH3498; 8in that ye provokeH3707 meH935 unto angerH3707 with the worksH4639 of your handsH3027, burningH6999 incenseH6999 unto otherH312 godsH430 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, whither ye be goneH935 to sojourn; that ye may be cutH3772 offH3772, and that ye may be a curseH7045 and a reproachH2781 among allH3605 the nationsH1471 of the earthH776? 9Have ye forgottenH7911 the wickednessH7451 of your fathersH1, and the wickednessH7451 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, and the wickednessH7451 of their wivesH802, and your own wickednessH7451, and the wickednessH7451 of your wivesH802, whichH834 they committedH6213 in the landH776 of JudahH3063, and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389? 10They are notH3808 humbled evenH5704 unto this dayH3117, neitherH3808 have they fearedH3372, norH3808 walkedH1980 in my lawH8451, norH3808 in my statutesH2708, that I setH5414 beforeH6440 youH834 and beforeH6440 your fathersH1. 11Therefore thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: BeholdH2005, I will setH7760 my faceH6440 againstH6440 youH3605 for evilH7451, evenH3651 to cutH3772 offH3772 allH3605 JudahH3063. 12And I will takeH3947 the remnantH7611 of JudahH3063, that have setH7760 their facesH6440 to goH935 intoH935 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to sojourn there, and they shall allH3605 be consumedH8552; in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 shall they fallH5307; they shall be consumedH8552, by the swordH2719 and by the famineH7458; they shall dieH4191, from the least evenH5704 unto the greatestH1419, by the swordH2719 and by the famineH7458: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curseH7045, and a reproachH2781. 13For I will punishH6485 them that dwellH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, as I have punishedH6485 JerusalemH3389, by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698: 14soH1961 that noneH3808 of the remnantH7611 of JudahH3063, whichH834 are goneH935 intoH935 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to sojourn there, shall escapeH6412 or remainH3427, that they should returnH7725 intoH935 the landH776 of JudahH3063, to the whichH834 they have a desireH5315 to returnH7725 to dwellH3427 there: for noneH3808 shall returnH7725 saveH5315 suchH834 as shall escapeH6412. 15Then allH3605 the menH376 whichH802 knewH3045 that their wivesH802 burnedH6999 incenseH6999 unto otherH312 godsH430, and allH3605 the womenH802 that stoodH5975 by, a greatH1419 assemblyH6951, evenH3588 allH3605 the peopleH5971 that dweltH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, in PathrosH6624, answeredH559 JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, 16As for the wordH1697 that thou hast spokenH1696 unto usH413 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, weH834 will notH369 hearken unto thee. 17But weH587 will certainlyH3588 performH6213 everyH3605 wordH1697 that is goneH3318 forthH3318 outH3318 of our mouthH6310, to burnH6999 incenseH6999 unto the queenH4446 of heavenH8064, and to pourH5258 outH3318 drinkH7646 offeringsH3588 unto herH3605, as weH587 have doneH6213, weH587 and our fathersH1, our kingsH4428 and our princesH8269, in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389: for then had weH587 plentyH7646 of victuals, and were wellH2896, and sawH7200 noH3808 evilH7451. 18But sinceH4480 weH3605 leftH4480 offH4480 to burnH6999 incenseH6999 to the queenH4446 of heavenH8064, and to pourH5258 outH4480 drink offeringsH4480 unto herH3605, weH3605 have wanted allH3605 things, and have been consumedH8552 by the swordH2719 and by the famineH7458. 19And when weH587 burnedH6999 incenseH6999 to the queenH4446 of heavenH8064, and poured outH376 drink offeringsH3588 unto herH3588, didH6213 weH587 makeH6213 herH3588 cakesH3561 to worship herH3588, and pourH5258 outH376 drink offeringsH3588 unto herH3588, withoutH1107 our husbandsH376? 20Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 unto allH3605 the peopleH5971, to the menH5971, and to the womenH802, evenH853 to allH3605 the peopleH5971 whichH802 had given him that answerH6030, sayingH559, 21The incenseH6999 that ye burnedH6999 in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, ye and your fathersH1, your kingsH4428 and your princesH8269, and the peopleH5971 of the landH776, didH834 notH3808 the LORDH3068 rememberH2142 them, and cameH5927 it notH3808 intoH5921 his mindH3820? 22soH6213 the LORDH3068 couldH3201 noH3808 longerH5750 bearH5375, becauseH834 of the evilH7455 of your doingsH4611, and becauseH834 of the abominationsH8441 whichH834 ye have committedH6213; therefore is your landH776 becomeH1961 a desolationH8047, and an astonishment, and a curseH7045, withoutH3808 inhabitantH3427, as it is this dayH3117. 23BecauseH5921 ye have burnedH6999 incenseH6999, and becauseH5921 ye have sinnedH2398 againstH5921 the LORDH3068, and have notH3808 obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, norH3808 walkedH1980 in his lawH8451, norH3808 in his statutesH2708, norH3808 in his testimoniesH5715; therefore this evilH7451 is happenedH7122 unto youH834, as it is this dayH3117. 24Moreover JeremiahH3414 saidH559 unto allH3605 the peopleH5971, and to allH3605 the womenH802, HearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, allH3605 JudahH3063 that are in the landH776 of EgyptH4714: 25ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559: Ye and your wivesH802 have both spokenH1696 with your mouthsH6310, and with your handsH3027 have fulfilledH4390 it, sayingH559, WeH834 will surelyH834 performH6213 our vowsH5088 that weH834 have vowedH5087, to burnH6999 incenseH6999 to the queenH4446 of heavenH8064, and to pourH5258 outH6965 drink offeringsH5088 unto herH802: establishH6965 then your vowsH5088, and performH6213 your vowsH5088. 26Therefore hearH8085 ye the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, allH3605 JudahH3063 that dwellH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714: BeholdH2005, I have swornH7650 by my greatH1419 nameH8034, saith the LORDH3068, that my nameH8034 shall noH518 moreH5750 be namedH8034 in the mouthH6310 of anyH3605 manH376 of JudahH3063 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, sayingH559, As the LordH3068 GODH3068 liveth. 27BeholdH2005, I watchH8245 over them for evilH7451, and notH3808 for goodH2896: and allH3605 the menH376 of JudahH3063 that are in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 shall be consumedH3615 by the swordH2719 and by the famineH7458, untilH5704 there be an endH3615 of them. 28And they that escapeH6412 the swordH2719 shall returnH7725 outH4480 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 intoH935 the landH776 of JudahH3063, fewH4557 in numberH4557; and allH3605 the remnantH7611 of JudahH3063, that are goneH935 intoH935 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to sojourn there, shall knowH3045 whoseH4310 wordH1697 shall standH6965, mineH4480, or theirsH1992. 29And this shall be the signH226 unto youH3588, saith the LORDH3068, that I will punishH6485 youH3588 in this placeH4725, that ye may knowH3045 that my wordsH1697 shall surelyH3588 standH6965 againstH5921 youH3588 for evilH7451: 30ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068: BeholdH2005, I will giveH5414 PharaohH6548 HophraH6548 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 intoH4714 the handH3027 of his enemiesH341, and intoH4714 the handH3027 of them that seekH1245 his lifeH5315; as I gaveH5414 ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 intoH4714 the handH3027 of NebuchadrezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, his enemyH341, and that soughtH1245 his lifeH5315.
