2Forthey invitedוַתִּקְרֶ֣אןָva.tik.Re.naH7121the peopleלָעָ֔םla.'AmH5971to the sacrificesלְזִבְחֵ֖יle.ziv.CheiH2077of their godsאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ן'e.lo.hei.HenH430,and the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971ateוַיֹּ֣אכַלvai.Yo.khalH398and bowedH7812downוַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֖וּvai.yish.ta.cha.VuH7812to their godsלֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃Le.lo.hei.HenH430.

3SoIsraelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478joinedוַיִּצָּ֥מֶדvai.yi.Tza.medH6775themselves toBaalלְבַ֣עַלle.Va.'alH1187of Peorפְּע֑וֹרpe.'orH1187,and the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068was angryוַיִּֽחַר־ אַ֥ףvai.yi.char- 'afH639 H2734against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃be.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

4The Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Takeקַ֚חkachH3947allכָּל־kol-H3605the leadersרָאשֵׁ֣יra.SheiH7218of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and executeוְהוֹקַ֥עve.ho.Ka'H3363themin broadנֶ֣גֶדNe.gedH5048daylightהַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁha.Sha.meshH8121before the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068,so that the fierceחֲר֥וֹןcha.RonH2740angerאַף־'af-H639of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068may turnוְיָשֹׁ֛בve.ya.ShoH7725awayH7725from Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃mi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”

5So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the judgesשֹׁפְטֵ֖יsho.fe.TeiH8199of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478, “EachH376of youslayהִרְגוּ֙hir.GuH2026his menH376who have joinedהַנִּצְמָדִ֖יםha.nitz.ma.DimH6775themselves toBaalלְבַ֥עַלle.Va.'alH1187of Peorפְּעֽוֹר׃pe.'orH1187.”

6Then beholdוְהִנֵּ֡הve.hi.NehH2009,oneאִישׁ֩'ishH376of the sonsמִבְּנֵ֨יmi.be.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478cameבָּ֗אBa'H935and broughtוַיַּקְרֵ֤בvai.yak.RevH7126to hisrelativesאֶחָיו֙'e.ChavH251aMidianiteהַמִּדְיָנִ֔יתha.mid.ya.NitH4084womanH4084,in the sightלְעֵינֵ֣יle.'ei.NeiH5869of Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872and in the sightוּלְעֵינֵ֖יu.le.'ei.NeiH5869of allכָּל־kol-H3605the congregationעֲדַ֣ת'a.DatH5712of the sonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,while they were weepingבֹכִ֔יםvo.KhimH1058at the doorwayפֶּ֖תַחPe.tachH6607of the tentאֹ֥הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵֽד׃mo.'EdH4150.

7When Phinehasפִּֽינְחָס֙pi.ne.ChasH6372the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֔ר'el.'a.ZarH499,the sonבֶּֽן־ben-H1121of Aaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן'a.ha.RonH175the priestהַכֹּהֵ֑ןha.ko.HenH3548,sawוַיַּ֗רְאvai.Yar'H7200it, he aroseוַיָּ֙קָם֙vai.Ya.komH6965from the midstמִתּ֣וֹךְmi.TokhH8432of the congregationהָֽעֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712and tookוַיִּקַּ֥חvai.yi.KachH3947a spearרֹ֖מַחRo.machH7420in his handבְּיָדֽוֹ׃be.ya.DoH3027,

9Those who diedהַמֵּתִ֖יםha.me.TimH4191by the plagueבַּמַּגֵּפָ֑הba.ma.ge.FahH4046were 24,000אַרְבָּעָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים אָֽלֶף׃ פ'ar.ba.'Ah ve.'es.Rim 'A.lefH6242 H702 H505.

11“Phinehasפִּֽינְחָ֨סpin.ChasH6372the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֜ר'el.'a.ZarH499,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Aaronאַהֲרֹ֣ן'a.ha.RonH175the priestהַכֹּהֵ֗ןha.ko.HenH3548,has turnedהֵשִׁ֤יבhe.ShivH7725awayH7725My wrathחֲמָתִי֙cha.ma.TiH2534from the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478in that he was jealousבְּקַנְא֥וֹbe.kan.'OH7065with My jealousyקִנְאָתִ֖יkin.'a.TiH7068amongבְּתוֹכָ֑םbe.to.KhamH8432them, so that I did not destroyכִלִּ֥יתִיkhi.Li.tiH3615the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478in My jealousyבְּקִנְאָתִֽי׃be.kin.'a.TiH7068.

12Thereforeלָכֵ֖ןla.KhenH3651sayאֱמֹ֑ר'e.MorH559, ‘BeholdH2009,I giveנֹתֵ֥ןno.TenH5414him Mycovenantבְּרִיתִ֖יbe.ri.TiH1285of peaceשָׁלֽוֹם׃sha.LomH7965;

13and it shall be for him and hisdescendantsוּלְזַרְע֣וֹu.le.zar.'OH2233afterאַחֲרָ֔יו'a.cha.RavH310him, a covenantבְּרִ֖יתbe.RitH1285of aperpetualעוֹלָ֑םo.LamH5769priesthoodכְּהֻנַּ֣תke.hu.NatH3550,becauseתַּ֗חַת אֲשֶׁ֤רTa.chat 'a.SherH834 H8478he was jealousקִנֵּא֙ki.Ne'H7065for his Godלֵֽאלֹהָ֔יוle.lo.HavH430andmadeH3722atonementוַיְכַפֵּ֖רvay.kha.PerH3722for the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.’”

16Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֥הmo.ShehH4872,sayingלֵּאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

17“Be hostileצָר֖וֹרtza.RorH6887to the Midianitesהַמִּדְיָנִ֑יםha.mid.ya.NimH4084and strikeוְהִכִּיתֶ֖םve.hi.ki.TemH5221them;
