Jeremiah 49:1-28 1 Concerning the children of Ammon עַמּ֗וֹן a.Mon H5983 . Thus כֹּ֚ה koh H3541 saith Jehovah : Hath Israel לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל le.Yis.ra.'El H3478 no sons H1121 ? hath he no heir ? Why מַדּ֗וּעַ ma.Du.a' H4069 is Malcam heir of Gad גָּ֔ד Gad H1410 , and his people וְעַמּ֖וֹ ve.'a.Mo H5971 dwell H3427 in the cities בְּעָרָ֥יו be.'a.Rav H5892 thereof? 2 Therefore לָכֵ֡ן la.Khen H3651 behold , days יָמִ֨ים ya.Mim H3117 come H935 , saith Jehovah , that I will cause the clamour of war H4421 to be H1961 heard H8085 in Rabbah רַבַּ֨ת ra.Bat H7237 of the children of Ammon עַמּ֜וֹן a.Mon H5983 ; and it shall be H1961 a desolate heap ; and her towns shall be H1961 burned H3341 with fire בָּאֵ֣שׁ ba.'Esh H784 ; and Israel יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל Yis.ra.'El H3478 shall possess H3423 them that possessed H3423 him , saith Jehovah . 3 Howl , Heshbon חֶשְׁבּ֜וֹן chesh.Bon H2809 ! for Ai is laid waste ; cry צְעַקְנָה֮ tze.'ak.Nah H6817 , daughters בְּנ֣וֹת be.Not H1323 of Rabbah רַבָּה֒ ra.Bah H7237 , gird חֲגֹ֣רְנָה cha.Go.re.nah H2296 you with sackcloth שַׂקִּ֔ים sa.Kim H8242 , lament H5594 and run to and fro within the enclosures: for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests כֹּהֲנָ֥יו ko.ha.Nav H3548 and his princes H8269 together יַחְדָּֽיו׃ yach.Dav H3162 . 4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys בָּֽעֲמָקִ֔ים ba.'a.ma.Kim H6010 ? Thy valley עִמְקֵ֔ךְ 'im.Kekh H6010 shall flow זָ֣ב zav H2100 down , O backsliding daughter הַבַּ֖ת ha.Bat H1323 , that trusteth in her treasures H214 , [saying,] Who shall come יָב֥וֹא ya.Vo' H935 against me ? 5 Behold , I will bring מֵבִ֨יא me.Vi' H935 a fear H6343 upon thee, saith the Lord אֲדֹנָ֧י 'a.do.Nai H136 Jehovah of hosts צְבָא֖וֹת tze.va.'ot H6635 , from all that are about thee; and ye shall be driven H5080 out every man H376 right forth; and none shall assemble H6908 the fugitives לַנֹּדֵֽד׃ la.no.Ded H5074 . 6 And afterwards I will turn אָשִׁ֛יב 'a.Shiv H7725 the captivity שְׁב֥וּת she.Vut H7622 of the children of Ammon עַמּ֖וֹן a.Mon H5983 , saith Jehovah . 7 Concerning Edom לֶאֱד֗וֹם le.'e.Dom H123 . Thus כֹּ֤ה koh H3541 saith Jehovah of hosts צְבָא֔וֹת tze.va.'ot H6635 : Is there no more wisdom חָכְמָ֖ה chokh.mah H2451 in Teman בְּתֵימָ֑ן be.tei.Man H8487 ? is counsel עֵצָה֙ 'e.Tzah H6098 perished H6 from the prudent ? is their wisdom חָכְמָתָֽם׃ cha.khe.ma.Tam H2451 spent? 8 Flee נֻ֤סוּ Nu.su H5127 , turn H6437 back הָפְנוּ֙ ha.fe.Nu H6437 , dwell לָשֶׁ֔בֶת la.She.vet H3427 deep הֶעְמִ֣יקוּ he'.Mi.ku H6009 down H3427 , ye inhabitants יֹשְׁבֵ֖י yo.she.Vei H3427 of Dedan דְּדָ֑ן de.Dan H1719 ! For I will bring הֵבֵ֥אתִי he.Ve.ti H935 the calamity H343 of Esau עֵשָׂ֛ו 'e.Sav H6215 upon him , the time עֵ֥ת 'et H6256 that I visit פְּקַדְתִּֽיו׃ pe.kad.Tiv H6485 him . 9 If grape-gatherers had come H935 to thee, would they not have left יַשְׁאִ֖רוּ yash.'I.ru H7604 a gleaning ? If thieves H1590 by night בַּלַּ֖יְלָה ba.Lay.lah H3915 , they would destroy הִשְׁחִ֥יתוּ hish.Chi.tu H7843 only till they had enough . 10 But I have made Esau עֵשָׂ֗ו 'e.Sav H6215 bare , I have uncovered גִּלֵּ֙יתִי֙ gi.Lei.ti H1540 his secret H4565 places H4565 , that he is unable to hide וְנֶחְבָּ֖ה ve.nech.Bah H2247 himself : his seed H2233 is wasted, and his brethren , and his neighbours, and he is not . 11 Leave עָזְבָ֥ה 'a.ze.Vah H5800 thine orphans , I will preserve אֲחַיֶּ֑ה 'a.chai.Yeh H2421 them alive H2421 ; and let thy widows וְאַלְמְנֹתֶ֖יךָ ve.'al.me.no.Tei.kha H490 trust H982 in me . 12 For thus כֹ֣ה׀ khoh H3541 saith Jehovah : Behold , they whose judgment H4941 was not to drink H8354 of the cup הַכּוֹס֙ ha.kOs H3563 shall assuredly drink H8354 ; and thou indeed , shouldest thou be altogether unpunished H5352 ? Thou shalt not go H5352 unpunished H5352 , but thou shalt surely drink H8354 . 13 For I have sworn H7650 by myself, saith Jehovah , that Bozrah בָצְרָ֑ה va.tze.Rah H1224 shall become H1961 an astonishment, a reproach לְחֶרְפָּ֛ה le.cher.Pah H2781 , a waste H2723 , and a curse וְלִקְלָלָ֖ה ve.lik.la.Lah H7045 ; and all the cities עָרֶ֥יהָ 'a.Rei.ha H5892 thereof shall be H1961 perpetual wastes H2723 . 14 I have heard H8085 a rumour from Jehovah , and an ambassador is sent H7971 among the nations בַּגּוֹיִ֣ם ba.go.Yim H1471 : — Gather הִֽתְקַבְּצוּ֙ hit.ka.be.Tzu H6908 yourselves together H6908 , and come וּבֹ֣אוּ u.Vo.'u H935 against her and rise וְק֖וּמוּ ve.Ku.mu H6965 up for the battle לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ la.mil.cha.Mah H4421 . 15 For behold , I have made נְתַתִּ֖יךָ ne.ta.Ti.kha H5414 thee small קָטֹ֛ן ka.Ton H6996 among the nations בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם ba.go.Yim H1471 , despised H959 among men H120 . 16 Thy terribleness, the pride H2087 of thy heart לִבֶּ֔ךָ li.Be.kha H3820 , hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts בְּחַגְוֵ֣י be.chag.Vei H2288 of the rock הַסֶּ֔לַע ha.Se.la' H5553 , that holdest the height מְר֣וֹם me.Rom H4791 of the hill גִּבְעָ֑ה giv.'Ah H1389 . Though thou shouldest make thy nest קִנֶּ֔ךָ ki.Ne.cha H7064 high H4791 as the eagle כַּנֶּ֙שֶׁר֙ ka.Ne.sher H5404 , I will bring אֽוֹרִידְךָ֖ 'o.ri.de.Kha H3381 thee down H3381 from thence, saith Jehovah . 17 And Edom אֱד֖וֹם 'e.Dom H123 shall be H1961 an astonishment: every one that goeth by it shall be H1961 astonished , and shall hiss וְיִשְׁרֹ֖ק ve.yish.Rok H8319 , because of all the plagues H4347 thereof. 18 As in the overthrow כְּֽמַהְפֵּכַ֞ת ke.mah.pe.Khat H4114 of Sodom סְדֹ֧ם se.Dom H5467 and Gomorrah וַעֲמֹרָ֛ה va.'a.mo.Rah H6017 , and their neighbour cities, saith Jehovah , no one H376 shall dwell יֵשֵׁ֥ב ye.Shev H3427 there , neither shall a son H1121 of man H376 sojourn therein. 19 Behold , he shall come H5927 up like a lion כְּאַרְיֵ֞ה ke.'ar.Yeh H738 from the swelling of the Jordan הַיַּרְדֵּן֮ hai.yar.Den H3383 against the strong habitation; for I will make them suddenly run אֲרִיצֶ֨נּוּ 'a.ri.Tze.nu H7323 away from it ; and who is a chosen H977 [man] whom I shall appoint אֶפְקֹ֑ד 'ef.Kod H6485 over her ? For who is like me ? and who will assign me a time? and who is that shepherd רֹעֶ֔ה ro.'Eh H7462 that will stand יַעֲמֹ֖ד ya.'a.Mod H5975 before me ? 20 Therefore לָכֵ֞ן la.Khen H3651 hear שִׁמְע֣וּ shim.'U H8085 the counsel H6098 of Jehovah , which he hath taken against Edom אֱד֔וֹם 'e.Dom H123 , and his purposes which he hath purposed against the inhabitants יֹשְׁבֵ֣י yo.she.Vei H3427 of Teman תֵימָ֑ן tei.Man H8487 : The little ones צְעִירֵ֣י tze.'i.Rei H6810 of the flock הַצֹּ֔אן ha.Tzon H6629 shall certainly draw them away; he shall certainly make H8074 their habitation desolate H8074 for them . 21 The earth הָאָ֑רֶץ ha.'A.retz H776 quaketh at the sound מִקּ֣וֹל mi.Kol H6963 of their fall נִפְלָ֔ם nif.Lam H5307 ; there is a cry H6818 , the sound קוֹלָֽהּ׃ ko.Lah H6963 whereof is heard H8085 in the Red sea בְּיַם־ be.yam- H3220 . 22 Behold , he shall come up , and fly as an eagle כַנֶּ֙שֶׁר֙ kha.Ne.sher H5404 , and spread וְיִפְרֹ֥שׂ ve.yif.Ros H6566 forth his wings כְּנָפָ֖יו ke.na.Fav H3671 against Bozrah בָּצְרָ֑ה botz.rah H1224 ; and at that day בַּיּ֣וֹם bai.Yom H3117 the heart לֵ֞ב lev H3820 of the mighty H1368 men H1368 of Edom אֱדוֹם֙ 'e.dOm H123 shall be וְֽ֠הָיָה Ve.ha.yah H1961 as the heart כְּלֵ֖ב ke.Lev H3820 of a woman אִשָּׁ֥ה 'i.Shah H802 in her pangs. 23 Concerning Damascus לְדַמֶּ֗שֶׂק le.da.Me.sek H1834 . Hamath חֲמָת֙ cha.Mat H2574 is put H954 to shame H954 , and Arpad וְאַרְפָּ֔ד ve.'ar.Pad H774 ; for they have heard H8085 evil H7451 tidings , they are melted נָמֹ֑גוּ na.Mo.gu H4127 away H4127 : there is distress on the sea בַּיָּ֣ם bai.Yam H3220 ; it cannot be quiet הַשְׁקֵ֖ט hash.Ket H8252 . 24 Damascus דַמֶּ֛שֶׂק da.Me.sek H1834 is grown feeble : she turneth herself to flee לָנ֖וּס la.Nus H5127 , and terror hath seized אֲחָזַ֖תָּה 'a.cha.Za.tah H270 on her ; trouble H6869 and sorrows have taken H270 hold הֶחֱזִ֑יקָה he.che.Zi.kah H2388 of her as of a woman in travail. 25 How אֵ֥יךְ 'eikh H349 is not the town קִרְיַ֖ת kir.Yat H7151 of praise תְּהִלָּ֑ת te.hi.lah H8416 forsaken, the city עִ֣יר 'ir H5892 of my joy מְשׂוֹשִֽׂי׃ me.so.Si H4885 ! 26 Therefore לָכֵ֛ן la.Khen H3651 shall her young בַחוּרֶ֖יהָ va.chu.Rei.ha H970 men H376 fall יִפְּל֥וּ yi.pe.Lu H5307 in her streets , and all the men H376 of war הַמִּלְחָמָ֤ה ha.mil.cha.Mah H4421 be cut off in that day בַּיּ֣וֹם bai.Yom H3117 , saith Jehovah of hosts צְבָאֽוֹת׃ tze.va.'ot H6635 . 27 And I will kindle וְהִצַּ֥תִּי ve.hi.Tza.ti H3341 a fire אֵ֖שׁ 'esh H784 in the wall בְּחוֹמַ֣ת be.cho.Mat H2346 of Damascus דַּמָּ֑שֶׂק da.Ma.sek H1834 , and it shall consume וְאָכְלָ֖ה ve.'a.khe.Lah H398 the palaces of Ben-Hadad H1130 . 28 Concerning H413 Kedar לְקֵדָ֣ר׀ le.ke.Dar H6938 , and concerning H413 the kingdoms וּֽלְמַמְלְכ֣וֹת u.le.mam.le.Khot H4467 of Hazor חָצ֗וֹר cha.Tzor H2674 , which Nebuchadrezzar king מֶֽלֶךְ־ Me.lekh- H4428 of Babylon בָּבֶ֔ל ba.Vel H894 smote . Thus כֹּ֖ה koh H3541 saith Jehovah : Arise ק֚וּמוּ Ku.mu H6965 , go עֲל֣וּ 'a.Lu H5927 up to Kedar קֵדָ֔ר ke.Dar H6938 , and spoil the men of the east קֶֽדֶם׃ Ke.dem H6924 .
