Numbers 9

(Exodus 12:1–13)

1In the firstH7223H559 monthH2320 of the secondH8145 yearH8141 after Israel had come outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, the LORDH3068H413 spokeH1696 to MosesH4872 in the WildernessH4057 of SinaiH5514: 2“The IsraelitesH1121H3478 are to observeH6213 the PassoverH6453 at its appointed timeH4150. 3You are to observeH6213 itH853 at the appointed timeH4150, atH996 twilightH6153 on the fourteenthH702H62401 dayH3117 of thisH2088 monthH2320, in accordance withH3605 its statutesH2708H3605 and ordinancesH4941.”

4So MosesH4872H413 toldH1696 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 to observeH6213 the PassoverH6453, 5and theyH6213 did so in the WildernessH4057 of SinaiH5514, atH996 twilightH6153 on the fourteenthH702H6240 dayH3117 of the firstH7223 monthH2320. The IsraelitesH1121H3478 didH6213 everythingH3605 just asH834 the LORDH3068 had commandedH6680 MosesH4872H3651.

6But there wereH1961 some menH582 whoH834 wereH1961 uncleanH2931 due to a dead bodyH120H5315, so they couldH3201 notH3808 observeH6213 the PassoverH6453 on thatH1931 dayH3117. And they cameH7126 beforeH6440 MosesH4872H6440 and AaronH175 that sameH1931 dayH3117 7and saidH559H582H1992 toH413 Moses, “WeH587 are uncleanH2931 because of a dead bodyH120H5315, but whyH4100 should we be excludedH1639 fromH1115 presentingH7126 the LORD’sH3068 offeringH7133 withH8432 the other IsraelitesH1121H3478 at the appointed timeH4150?”

8“Wait hereH5975 until I find outH8085 whatH4100 the LORDH3068 commandsH6680 concerning you,” MosesH4872 repliedH559.

9Then the LORDH3068 saidH1696 toH413 MosesH4872, 10“TellH1696H413 the IsraelitesH1121H3478H559: ‘WhenH3588 any oneH376 of you orH176 your descendantsH1755 isH1961 uncleanH2931 because of a dead bodyH5315, orH176 is awayH7350 on a journeyH1870, he may still observeH6213 the PassoverH6453 to the LORDH3068. 11Such people are to observeH6213 itH853 atH996 twilightH6153 on the fourteenthH702H6240 dayH3117 of the secondH8145 monthH2320. They are to eatH398 the lamb, together withH5921 unleavened breadH4682 and bitter herbsH4844; 12they may notH3808 leaveH7604 any ofH4480 it untilH5704 morningH1242 or breakH7665 any of its bonesH6106H3808. They must observeH6213 the PassoverH6453 according to allH3605 its statutesH2708.

13But if a manH376 whoH834 isH1931 ceremonially cleanH2889 and isH1961 notH3808 on a journeyH1870 still failsH2308 to observeH6213 the PassoverH6453, he must be cut offH3772H5315H1931 from his peopleH5971, becauseH3588 he did notH3808 presentH7126 the LORD’sH3068 offeringH7133 at its appointed timeH4150. ThatH1931 manH376 will bearH5375 the consequences of his sinH2399.

14IfH3588 a foreignerH1616 dwellingH1481 among youH854 wants to observeH6213 the PassoverH6453 to the LORDH3068, he is to doH6213 soH3651 according to the PassoverH6453 statuteH2708 and its ordinancesH4941. You are to applyH1961 the sameH259 statuteH2708 to both the foreignerH1616 and the nativeH249 of the landH776.’”

The Cloud above the Tabernacle

(Exodus 40:34–38)

15On the day thatH3117 the tabernacleH4908, the TentH168 of the TestimonyH5715, was set upH6965, the cloudH6051 coveredH3680 it and appearedH4758 like fireH784 aboveH5921 the tabernacleH4908 from eveningH6153H1961 untilH5704 morningH1242. 16It remainedH1961 that wayH3651 continuallyH8548; the cloudH6051 would cover the tabernacleH3680 by day,2 and at nightH3915 it would appearH4758 like fireH784. 17WheneverH6310 the cloudH6051 was liftedH5927 from aboveH5921 the TentH168H310H3651, the IsraelitesH1121H3478 would set outH5265, and whereverH4725 the cloudH6051H8033 settledH7931, thereH8033 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 would campH2583. 18AtH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 set outH5265, and atH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310 they campedH2583. As long asH3605H3117 the cloudH6051 remainedH7931 overH5921 the tabernacleH4908, they remained encampedH2583.

19Even when the cloudH6051 lingeredH748 overH5921 the tabernacleH4908 for manyH7227 daysH3117, the IsraelitesH1121H3478 keptH8104 the LORD’sH3068 chargeH4931 and did notH3808 set outH5265. 20SometimesH3426 the cloudH6051 remainedH1961 overH5921 the tabernacleH4908 for only a fewH4557 daysH3117, and they would campH2583 atH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310 and set outH5265 atH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310. 21SometimesH3426 the cloudH6051 remainedH1961 only from eveningH6153 untilH5704 morningH1242, and whenH6051 it liftedH5927 in the morningH1242, they would set outH5265. WhetherH176 it was by dayH3119 or by nightH3915, when the cloudH6051 was taken upH5927, they would set outH5265.

22WhetherH176H3117 the cloud lingeredH748 for two daysH3117, a monthH2320, or longerH176, the IsraelitesH1121H3478 campedH2583 and did notH3808 set outH5265 as long as the cloudH6051 remainedH7931H5921 overH5921 the tabernacleH4908; but when it was liftedH5927, they would set outH5265. 23They campedH2583 atH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310, and they set outH5265 atH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310; they carried outH8104 the LORD’sH3068 chargeH4931 according toH5921 HisH3068 commandH6310 throughH3027 MosesH4872.
