Numbers 11

SoonH1961 the peopleH5971 began to complainH596 about their hardshipH7451 in the hearingH241 of the LORDH3068, and when HeH3068 heardH8085 them, His angerH639 was kindledH2734, and fireH784 from the LORDH3068 blazedH1197 among them and consumedH398 the outskirtsH7097 of the campH4264. 2And the peopleH5971 cried outH6817 toH413 MosesH4872, and heH4872 prayedH6419 toH413 the LORDH3068, and the fireH784 died downH8257. 3So thatH1931 placeH4725 was calledH7121H8034 TaberahH8404,1 becauseH3588 the fireH784 of the LORDH3068 had burnedH1197 among them.

Meanwhile, the rabbleH628 among themH7130 had a strong craving for other foodH183H8378, andH1571 againH7725 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 weptH1058 and saidH559, “WhoH4310 will feed usH398 meatH1320? 5We rememberH2142 the fishH1710 we ateH398 freelyH2600 in EgyptH4714, along with the cucumbersH7180, melonsH20, leeksH2682, onionsH1211, and garlicH7762. 6But nowH6258 our appetiteH5315 is goneH3002; there is nothingH369H3605 to seeH5869 butH1115H413 this mannaH4478!”

Now the mannaH4478 resembled corianderH1407H1931 seedH2233, and its appearanceH5869 was like thatH5869 of gum resinH916. 8The peopleH5971 walked aroundH7751 and gathered itH3950, ground itH2912 on a handmillH7347 orH176 crushed itH1743 in a mortarH4085, then boiledH1310 it in a cooking potH6517 or shaped it intoH6213 cakesH5692H1961. It tastedH2940 like pastryH3955 baked with fine oilH8081. 9When the dewH2919 fellH3381 onH5921 the campH4264 at nightH3915, the mannaH4478 would fallH3381 with itH5921.

The Complaint of Moses

Then MosesH4872 heardH8085 the peopleH5971 of familyH4940 after familyH376 weepingH1058 at the entrancesH6607 to their tentsH168, and the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 greatlyH3966, and MosesH4872 was also displeasedH5869H7489.

So MosesH4872H413 askedH559 the LORDH3068, “WhyH4100 have You brought this troubleH7489 on Your servantH5650? WhyH4100 have I notH3808 foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, that You have laidH7760 upon meH5921 the burdenH4853 of allH3605 theseH2088 peopleH5971? 12Did IH595 conceiveH2029 allH3605 theseH2088H518 peopleH5971? Did IH595 give them birthH3205, so thatH3588 You should tellH559 meH413, ‘Carry themH5375 in your bosomH2436, asH834 a nurseH539 carriesH5375 an infantH3243,’ toH5921 the landH127 thatH834 You swore to giveH7650 their fathersH1?

WhereH370 can I get meatH1320 forH5414 allH3605 theseH2088 peopleH5971? ForH3588 they keep crying outH1058 to meH5921H559, ‘GiveH5414 us meatH1320 to eatH398!’

IH595 cannotH3808H3201 carryH5375 allH3605 theseH2088 peopleH5971 by myselfH905; it is too burdensomeH3515 for meH4480. 15IfH518 this is howH3602 YouH859 are going to treatH6213 me, pleaseH4994 kill me right nowH2026—ifH518 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your eyesH5869—and let me notH408 seeH7200 my own wretchednessH7451.”

Seventy Elders Anointed

Then the LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 MosesH4872, “BringH622 Me seventyH7657 of the eldersH376H2205 of IsraelH3478 known to youH3045H3588H1992 as leadersH2205 and officersH7860 of the peopleH5971. BringH3947 themH853 toH413 the TentH168 of MeetingH4150 and have them standH3320 thereH8033 with youH5973.

And I will come downH3381 and speakH1696 with youH5973 thereH8033, and I will takeH680 some ofH4480 the SpiritH7307 thatH834 is on youH5921 and putH7760 that Spirit on themH5921. They will help you bearH5375H854 the burdenH4853 of the peopleH5971, so that youH859 do notH3808 have to bear itH5375 by yourselfH905.

AndH413 sayH559 to the peopleH5971: Consecrate yourselvesH6942 for tomorrowH4279, and you will eatH398 meatH1320, becauseH3588 you have cried outH1058 in the hearingH241 of the LORDH3068, sayingH559: ‘WhoH4310 will feed usH398 meatH1320? ForH3588 we were better offH2895 in EgyptH4714!’ Therefore the LORDH3068 will giveH5414 you meatH1320, and you will eatH398. 19You will eat itH398H3808 notH3808 for oneH259 or two daysH3117, norH3808 for fiveH2568 or tenH6235 or twentyH6242 daysH3117, 20but forH5704 a whole monthH2320H3117—untilH5704 it comes outH3318 of your nostrilsH639 and makesH1961 you nauseousH2214—becauseH3282H3588 you have rejectedH3988 the LORDH3068, whoH834 is among youH7130, and have cried outH1058 before HimH6440, sayingH559, ‘WhyH4100 did we everH2088 leaveH3318 EgyptH4714?’”

But MosesH4872 repliedH559, “Here I amH595 amongH7130 600,000H8337H3967H505 menH5971 on footH7273, yet YouH859 sayH559, ‘I will giveH5414 them meatH1320, and they will eatH398 for a monthH2320H3117.’ 22If all our flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 were slaughteredH7819 for them, would they have enoughH4672? Or ifH518 allH3605 the fishH1709 in the seaH3220 were caughtH622 for them, would they have enoughH4672?”

The LORDH3068H413 answeredH559 MosesH4872, “Is the LORD’sH3068 armH3027 too shortH7114? NowH6258 you will seeH7200 whether orH518 notH3808 My wordH1697 will come to passH7136.”

So MosesH4872 went outH3318 and relayedH1696 toH413 the peopleH5971 the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068, and he gatheredH622 seventyH7657H376 of the eldersH2205 of the peopleH5971 and had them standH5975 aroundH5439 the tentH168. 25Then the LORDH3068 came downH3381 in the cloudH6051 and spokeH1696 to himH413, and He tookH680 some ofH4480 the SpiritH7307 thatH834 was onH5921 Moses and placedH5414 that Spirit onH5921 the seventyH7657H376 eldersH2205H1961. As the SpiritH7307 restedH5117 on themH5921, they prophesiedH5012—but they neverH3808 did so againH3254.

TwoH8147 menH582, however, had remainedH7604 in the campH4264—oneH259 namedH8034 EldadH419H8034 and the otherH8145 MedadH4312—and the SpiritH7307 restedH5117 on themH5921. TheyH1992 were among those listedH3789, but they had notH3808 gone outH3318 to the tentH168, and they prophesiedH5012 in the campH4264. 27A young manH5288 ranH7323 and reportedH5046 to MosesH4872H559, “EldadH419 and MedadH4312 are prophesyingH5012 in the campH4264.”

JoshuaH3091 sonH1121 of NunH5126, the attendantH8334 to MosesH4872 since youthH979, spoke upH6030 and saidH559, “MosesH4872, my lordH113, stop themH3607!”

But MosesH4872 repliedH559, “Are youH859 jealousH7065 on my accountH4310? I wish thatH5414 allH3605 the LORD’sH3068 peopleH5971 were prophetsH5030 and thatH3588 the LORDH3068 would placeH5414 His SpiritH7307 on themH5921!”

Then MosesH4872 returnedH622 toH413 the campH4264H1931, along with the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478.

The Quail and the Plague

Now a windH7307 sent byH4480 the LORDH3068 came upH5265, drove inH1468 quailH7958 fromH854 the seaH3220, and brought themH5203 nearH5921 the campH4264, about two cubitsH520 aboveH5921 the surfaceH6440 of the groundH776,2 for a day’sH3117 journeyH1870 in every directionH3541H1870H3117 aroundH5439 the campH4264. 32AllH3605 thatH1931 dayH3117 and nightH3915H3605, and allH3605 the nextH4283 dayH3117, the peopleH5971 stayed upH6965 gatheringH622 the quailH7958. No one gatheredH622 less thanH4591 tenH6235 homersH2563,3 and they spread them outH7849 all aroundH5439 the campH4264.

But whileH5750 the meatH1320 was still betweenH996 their teethH8127, beforeH2962 it was chewedH3772, the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 burnedH2734 against the peopleH5971, and the LORDH3068 struckH5221 themH5971 with a severeH7227 plagueH4347. 34So they calledH7121 thatH1931 placeH4725 Kibroth-hattaavahH6914,4 becauseH3588 thereH8033 they buriedH6912 the peopleH5971 who had craved other foodH183.

FromH6914 Kibroth-hattaavahH6914 the peopleH5971 moved onH5265 to HazerothH2698, where they remained for some timeH1961H2698.
