22Then God’sאֱלֹהִים֮'E.lo.HimH430angerאַ֣ף'afH639was kindledוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588Balaamהוּא֒hu'H1931was going alongהוֹלֵ֣ךְho.LekhH1980,and the angelמַלְאַ֧ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068stoodוַיִּתְיַצֵּ֞בvai.yit.ya.TzevH3320in the roadבַּדֶּ֖רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870to opposeלְשָׂטָ֣ןle.sa.TanH7854him.Balaamוְהוּא֙ve.Hu'H1931was ridingרֹכֵ֣ב עַל־ro.Khev 'al-H7392H5921his donkeyאֲתֹנ֔וֹ'a.to.NoH860,and his twoוּשְׁנֵ֥יu.she.NeiH8147servantsנְעָרָ֖יוne.'a.RavH5288were with himעִמּֽוֹ׃i.MoH5973.
23When the donkeyהָאָתוֹן֩ha.'a.tOnH860אֶת־'et-H853sawוַתֵּ֣רֶאva.Te.re'H7200the angelמַלְאַ֨ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068standingנִצָּ֣בni.TzavH5324in the roadבַּדֶּ֗רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870with a drawnשְׁלוּפָה֙she.lu.FahH8025swordוְחַרְבּ֤וֹve.char.BoH2719in his handבְּיָד֔וֹbe.ya.DoH3027,sheהָֽאָתוֹן֙ha.'a.tOnH860turnedוַתֵּ֤טva.TetH5186offמִן־min-H4480the pathהַדֶּ֔רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870and wentוַתֵּ֖לֶךְva.Te.lekhH1980into a fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֑הba.sa.DehH7704.So Balaamבִּלְעָם֙bil.'AmH1109אֶת־'et-H853beatוַיַּ֤ךְvai.YakhH5221herהָ֣אָת֔וֹןha.'a.TonH860to return herלְהַטֹּתָ֖הּle.ha.to.TahH5186to the pathהַדָּֽרֶךְ׃ha.Da.rekhH1870.
25And the donkeyהָאָת֜וֹןha.'a.TonH860אֶת־'et-H853sawוַתֵּ֨רֶאva.Te.re'H7200the angelמַלְאַ֣ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and pressed herselfוַתִּלָּחֵץ֙va.ti.la.ChetzH3905againstאֶל־'el-H413the wallהַקִּ֔ירha.KirH7023,crushingוַתִּלְחַ֛ץva.til.ChatzH3905אֶת־'et-H853Balaam’sבִּלְעָ֖םbil.'AmH1109footרֶ֥גֶלRe.gelH7272againstאֶל־'el-H413itהַקִּ֑ירha.KirH7023.So he beat herלְהַכֹּתָֽהּ׃le.ha.ko.TahH5221once againוַיֹּ֖סֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254.
26And the angelמַלְאַךְ־mal.'akh-H4397of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068movedעֲב֑וֹרa.VorH5674on aheadוַיּ֥וֹסֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254and stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙vai.ya.'a.ModH5975in a narrowצָ֔רTzarH6862placeבְּמָק֣וֹםbe.ma.KomH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834there was noאֵֽין־'ein-H369roomדֶּ֥רֶךְDe.rekhH1870to turnלִנְט֖וֹתlin.TotH5186to the rightיָמִ֥יןya.MinH3225or leftוּשְׂמֹֽאול׃u.se.MolH8040.
27When the donkeyהָֽאָתוֹן֙ha.'a.tOnH860אֶת־'et-H853sawוַתֵּ֤רֶאva.Te.re'H7200the angelמַלְאַ֣ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,she lay downוַתִּרְבַּ֖ץva.tir.BatzH7257underתַּ֣חַתTa.chatH8478Balaamבִּלְעָ֑םbil.'AmH1109,andבִּלְעָ֔םbil.'AmH1109hebecame furiousוַיִּֽחַר־ אַ֣ףvai.yi.char- 'afH2734H639and beatוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221אֶת־'et-H853herהָאָת֖וֹןha.'a.TonH860with his staffבַּמַּקֵּֽל׃ba.ma.KelH4731.
28Then the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853openedוַיִּפְתַּ֥חvai.yif.TachH6605the donkey’sהָאָת֑וֹןha.'a.TonH860mouthפִּ֣יpiH6310,and she saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559to Balaamלְבִלְעָם֙le.vil.'AmH1109, “Whatמֶה־meh-H4100have I doneעָשִׂ֣יתִֽי'a.Si.tiH6213to youthatכִּ֣יkiH3588you have beaten meהִכִּיתַ֔נִיhi.ki.Ta.niH5221theseזֶ֖הzehH2088threeשָׁלֹ֥שׁsha.LoshH7969timesרְגָלִֽים׃re.ga.LimH7272?”
29Balaamבִּלְעָם֙bil.'AmH1109answeredוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the donkeyלָֽאָת֔וֹן כִּ֥יla.'a.Ton kiH860H3588, “You have made a foolהִתְעַלַּ֖לְתְּhit.'a.LaltH5953of me!Ifל֤וּluH3863I hadיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426a swordחֶ֙רֶב֙che.revH2719in my handבְּיָדִ֔י כִּ֥יbe.ya.Di kiH3027H3588,I would kill youהֲרַגְתִּֽיךְ׃ha.rag.TikhH2026right nowעַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH6258!”
30But the donkeyהָאָת֜וֹן אֶל־ha.'a.Ton 'el-H860H413saidוַתֹּ֨אמֶרva.To.merH559to Balaamבִּלְעָ֗םbil.'AmH1109, “Am Iאָנֹכִ֨י'a.no.KhiH595notהֲלוֹא֩ha.lO'H3808the donkeyאֲתֹֽנְךָ֜'a.to.ne.KhaH860אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you have riddenרָכַ֣בְתָּ עָלַ֗יra.Khav.ta 'a.LaiH7392H5921all your lifeמֵעֽוֹדְךָ֙me.'od.KhaH5750until todayעַד־ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה'ad- hai.Yom ha.ZehH5704H3117H2088?Have I ever treatedלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213youthis wayכֹּ֑הKohH3541beforeH5532?” “Noלֹֽא׃Lo'H3808,”he repliedוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559.
31Then the LORDיְהוָה֮Yah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853openedוַיְגַ֣לvay.GalH1540Balaam’sבִלְעָם֒vil.'AmH1109eyesעֵינֵ֣י'ei.NeiH5869,and he sawוַיַּ֞רְאvai.Yar'H7200אֶת־'et-H853the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068standingנִצָּ֣בni.TzavH5324in the roadבַּדֶּ֔רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870with a drawnשְׁלֻפָ֖הshe.lu.FahH8025swordוְחַרְבּ֥וֹve.char.BoH2719in his handבְּיָד֑וֹbe.ya.DoH3027.And Balaam bowed lowוַיִּקֹּ֥ד וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּvai.yi.Kod vai.yish.Ta.chuH7812H6915and fell facedownלְאַפָּֽיו׃le.'a.PavH639.
32The angelמַלְאַ֣ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068asked himוַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙vai.Yo.mer 'e.LavH559H413, “Whyעַל־ מָ֗ה'al- MahH5921H4100have you beatenהִכִּ֙יתָ֙hi.Ki.taH5221אֶת־'et-H853your donkeyאֲתֹ֣נְךָ֔'a.To.ne.khaH860theseזֶ֖הzehH2088threeשָׁל֣וֹשׁsha.Lo.oshH7969timesרְגָלִ֑יםre.ga.LimH7272?Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,Iאָנֹכִי֙'a.no.KhiH595have come outיָצָ֣אתִיya.Tza.tiH3318to oppose youלְשָׂטָ֔ןle.sa.TanH7854,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588your wayהַדֶּ֖רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870is perverseיָרַ֥טya.RatH3399before meלְנֶגְדִּֽי׃le.neg.DiH5048.
33The donkeyהָֽאָת֔וֹןha.'a.TonH860saw meוַתִּרְאַ֙נִי֙va.tir.'A.niH7200and turned awayוַתֵּ֣טva.TetH5186from meלְפָנַ֔יle.fa.NaiH6440theseזֶ֖הzehH2088threeשָׁלֹ֣שׁsha.LoshH7969timesרְגָלִ֑יםre.ga.LimH7272.If she had notאוּלַי֙'u.LaiH194turned awayנָטְתָ֣הna.te.TahH5186מִפָּנַ֔יmi.pa.NaiH6440,then by nowעַתָּ֛ה גַּם־'a.Tah gam-H6258H1571I would surely have killedכִּ֥י הָרַ֖גְתִּיki ha.Rag.tiH3588H2026youאֹתְכָ֥ה'o.te.KhahH853and let herוְאוֹתָ֥הּve.'o.TahH853liveהֶחֱיֵֽיתִי׃he.che.Yei.tiH2421.”
34“I have sinnedחָטָ֔אתִיcha.Ta.tiH2398,”Balaamבִּלְעָ֜םbil.'AmH1109saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068, “forכִּ֚יkiH3588I did notלֹ֣אlo'H3808realizeיָדַ֔עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045thatכִּ֥יkiH3588youאַתָּ֛ה'a.TahH859were standingנִצָּ֥בni.TzavH5324in the roadבַּדָּ֑רֶךְba.Da.rekhH1870to confront meלִקְרָאתִ֖יlik.ra.TiH7122.And nowוְעַתָּ֛הve.'a.TahH6258,ifאִם־'im-H518this is displeasingרַ֥עra'H7489in your sightבְּעֵינֶ֖יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,I will go backאָשׁ֥וּבָה'a.Shu.vahH7725home.”
35But the angelמַלְאַ֨ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559toאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָ֗םbil.'AmH1109, “Goלֵ֚ךְlekhH1980withעִם־'im-H5973the menהָ֣אֲנָשִׁ֔יםha.'a.na.ShimH582,but you are to speakאֲדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יךָ'a.da.Ber 'e.Lei.khaH1696H413אֶת־'et-H853onlyוְאֶ֗פֶסve.'E.fesH657אֹת֣וֹ'o.ToH853הַדָּבָ֛רha.da.VarH1697whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834I tell youתְדַבֵּ֑רte.da.BerH1696.”So Balaamבִּלְעָ֖םbil.'AmH1109wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980withעִם־'im-H5973the princesשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of Balakבָלָֽק׃va.LakH1111.
