3and Moabמוֹאָ֜בmo.'AvH4124was terrifiedוַיָּ֨גָרvai.Ya.gorH1481ofמִפְּנֵ֥יmi.pe.NeiH6440the peopleהָעָ֛ם מְאֹ֖דha.'Am me.'OdH5971 H3966becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588theyה֑וּאHu'H1931were numerousרַב־rav-H7227.Indeed, Moabמוֹאָ֔ב מִפְּנֵ֖יmo.'Av mi.pe.NeiH4124 H6440dreadedוַיָּ֣קָץvai.Ya.kotzH6973the Israelitesבְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃be.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478.

4So the Moabitesמוֹאָ֜בmo.'AvH4124saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the eldersזִקְנֵ֣יzik.NeiH2205of Midianמִדְיָ֗ן עַתָּ֞הmid.Yan 'a.TahH4080 H6258, “This hordeהַקָּהָל֙ha.ka.HalH6951אֶת־'et-H853will devourיְלַחֲכ֤וּye.la.cha.KhuH3897everythingכָּל־kol-H3605around usסְבִ֣יבֹתֵ֔ינוּse.Vi.vo.Tei.nuH5439,as an oxהַשּׁ֔וֹרha.ShorH7794אֵ֖ת'etH853licks upכִּלְחֹ֣ךְkil.ChokhH3897the grassיֶ֣רֶקYe.rekH3418of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֑הha.sa.DehH7704.”Since Balakוּבָלָ֧קu.va.LakH1111sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zipporצִפּ֛וֹרtzi.PorH6834was kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Moabלְמוֹאָ֖בle.mo.'AvH4124at thatהַהִֽוא׃ha.Hiv'H1931timeבָּעֵ֥תba.'EtH6256,

5he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֨חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֜יםmal.'a.KhimH4397to summonאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָ֣םbil.'AmH1109sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Beorבְּע֗וֹרbe.'orH1160at Pethorפְּ֠תוֹרָהPe.to.rahH6604,whichאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834is byעַל־'al-H5921the Euphratesהַנָּהָ֛רha.na.HarH5104in the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of his peopleבְּנֵי־ עַמּ֖וֹbe.nei- a.MoH1121 H5971. “Beholdהִ֠נֵּהHi.nehH2009,a peopleעַ֣ם'amH5971has come outיָצָ֤אya.Tza'H3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,”said Balakלִקְרֹא־lik.ro'-H7121לֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559הִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009. “They coverכִסָּה֙khi.SahH3680אֶת־'et-H853the faceעֵ֣ין'einH5869of the landהָאָ֔רֶץ וְה֥וּאha.'A.retz ve.Hu'H776 H1931and have settledיֹשֵׁ֖בyo.ShevH3427next to meמִמֻּלִֽי׃mi.mu.LiH4136.

6So pleaseנָּ֨אna'H4994comeלְכָה־le.khah-H1980nowוְעַתָּה֩ve.'a.TahH6258and put a curseאָֽרָה־'a.rah-H779אֶת־'et-H853on thisהַזֶּ֗הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588theyהוּא֙hu'H1931are too mightyעָצ֥וּם'a.TzumH6099for meמִמֶּ֔נִּיmi.Me.niH4480.Perhaps I mayאוּלַ֤י'u.LaiH194be ableאוּכַל֙'u.KhalH3201to defeatנַכֶּה־na.keh-H5221themand drive them outוַאֲגָרְשֶׁ֖נּוּva.'a.ga.re.She.nuH1644ofמִן־min-H4480the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776;forכִּ֣יkiH3588I knowיָדַ֗עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045אֵ֤ת'etH853that thoseאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you blessתְּבָרֵךְ֙te.va.reKhH1288are blessedמְבֹרָ֔ךְme.vo.RakhH1288,and thoseוַאֲשֶׁ֥רva.'a.SherH834you curseתָּאֹ֖רta.'OrH779are cursedיוּאָֽר׃yu.'ArH779.”

7The eldersזִקְנֵ֤יzik.NeiH2205of Moabמוֹאָב֙ וְזִקְנֵ֣יmo.'Av ve.zik.NeiH4124 H2205and Midianמִדְיָ֔ןmid.YanH4080departedוַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּvai.Ye.le.KhuH1980with the fees for divinationוּקְסָמִ֖יםu.ke.sa.MimH7081in handבְּיָדָ֑םbe.ya.DamH3027.They cameוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935toאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָ֔םbil.'AmH1109and relayedוַיְדַבְּר֥וּvay.da.be.RuH1696to himאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413the wordsדִּבְרֵ֥יdiv.ReiH1697of Balakבָלָֽק׃va.LakH1111.

8“Spendלִ֤ינוּLi.nuH3885the nightהַלַּ֔יְלָהha.Lay.lahH3915hereפֹה֙fohH6311,” Balaamrepliedוַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֗םvai.Yo.mer 'a.lei.HemH559 H413, “and I will giveוַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֤יva.ha.shi.vo.TiH7725אֶתְכֶם֙'et.KhemH853you the answerדָּבָ֔רda.VarH1697thatכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068speaksיְדַבֵּ֥רye.da.BerH1696to meאֵלָ֑י'e.LaiH413.”So the princesשָׂרֵֽי־sa.rei-H8269of Moabמוֹאָ֖בmo.'AvH4124stayedוַיֵּשְׁב֥וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427withעִם־'im-H5973Balaamבִּלְעָֽם׃bil.'AmH1109.

9Then Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָ֑םbil.'AmH1109and askedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoמִ֛יmiH4310are theseהָאֵ֖לֶּהha.'E.lehH428menהָאֲנָשִׁ֥יםha.'a.na.ShimH582with youעִמָּֽךְ׃'i.MakhH5973?”

10And Balaamבִּלְעָ֖םbil.'AmH1109saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430, “Balakבָּלָ֧קba.LakH1111sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zipporצִפֹּ֛רtzi.PorH6834,kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Moabמוֹאָ֖בmo.'AvH4124,sent meשָׁלַ֥חsha.LachH7971this messageאֵלָֽי׃'e.LaiH413:

11‘Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,a peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971has come outהַיֹּצֵ֣אhai.yo.Tze'H3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֔יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,and they coverוַיְכַ֖סvay.KhasH3680אֶת־'et-H853the faceעֵ֣ין'einH5869of the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776.Nowעַתָּ֗ה'a.TahH6258comeלְכָ֤הle.KhahH1980and put a curseקָֽבָה־ka.vah-H6895on themאֹת֔וֹ'o.ToH853for me.Perhaps I mayאוּלַ֥י'u.LaiH194be ableאוּכַ֛ל'u.KhalH3201to fightלְהִלָּ֥חֶםle.hi.La.chemH3898against themand drive them awayוְגֵרַשְׁתִּֽיו׃ve.ge.rash.TivH1644.’”

12But Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָ֔םbil.'AmH1109, “Do notלֹ֥אlo'H3808goתֵלֵ֖ךְte.LekhH1980with themעִמָּהֶ֑ם'i.ma.HemH5973.You are notלֹ֤אlo'H3808to curseתָאֹר֙ta.'OrH779אֶת־'et-H853this peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971,forכִּ֥יkiH3588theyהֽוּא׃Hu'H1931are blessedבָר֖וּךְva.RukhH1288.”

13So Balaamבִּלְעָם֙bil.'AmH1109got upוַיָּ֤קָםvai.Ya.komH6965the next morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Balak’sבָלָ֔קva.LakH1111princesשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269, “Go backלְכ֖וּle.KhuH1980toאֶֽל־'el-H413your homelandאַרְצְכֶ֑ם'ar.tze.KhemH776,becauseכִּ֚יkiH3588the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068has refusedמֵאֵ֣ןme.'EnH3985to let meלְתִתִּ֖יle.ti.TiH5414goלַהֲלֹ֥ךְla.ha.LokhH1980with youעִמָּכֶֽם׃'i.ma.KhemH5973.”

14And the princesשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of Moabמוֹאָ֔בmo.'AvH4124aroseוַיָּק֙וּמוּ֙vai.ya.Ku.muH6965,returnedוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935toאֶל־'el-H413Balakבָּלָ֑קba.LakH1111,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Balaamבִּלְעָ֖םbil.'AmH1109refusedמֵאֵ֥ןme.'EnH3985to comeהֲלֹ֥ךְha.LokhH1980with usעִמָּֽנוּ׃'i.Ma.nuH5973.”

15Then Balakבָּלָ֑קba.LakH1111sentשְׁלֹ֣חַshe.Lo.achH7971otherוַיֹּ֥סֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254princesע֖וֹד שָׂרִ֔יםod sa.RimH8269 H5750,more numerousרַבִּ֥יםra.BimH7227and more distinguishedוְנִכְבָּדִ֖יםve.nikh.ba.DimH3513than theמֵאֵֽלֶּה׃me.'E.lehH428first messengers.

16They cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935toאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָ֑םbil.'AmH1109and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559, “This is whatכֹּ֤הkohH3541Balakבָּלָ֣קba.LakH1111sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zipporצִפּ֔וֹרtzi.PorH6834saysאָמַר֙'a.MarH559: ‘Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994let nothingאַל־'al-H408hinderתִמָּנַ֖עti.ma.Na'H4513you from comingמֵהֲלֹ֥ךְme.ha.LokhH1980to meאֵלָֽי׃'e.LaiH413,

17forכִּֽי־ki-H3588I will honor youכַבֵּ֤דkha.BedH3513richlyאֲכַבֶּדְךָ֙ מְאֹ֔ד'a.kha.bed.Kha me.'OdH3966 H3513and doאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֑ה'e.'e.SehH6213whateverוְכֹ֛לve.KholH3605אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you sayתֹּאמַ֥ר אֵלַ֖יto.Mar 'e.LaiH559 H413.So pleaseנָּא֙na'H4994comeוּלְכָה־u.le.khah-H1980and put a curseקָֽבָה־ka.vah-H6895אֵ֖ת'etH853on thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088people for meהָעָ֥םha.'AmH5971!’”

18But Balaamבִּלְעָ֗ם וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙bil.'Am vai.Yo.merH1109 H559repliedוַיַּ֣עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030toאֶל־'el-H413the servantsעַבְדֵ֣י'av.DeiH5650of Balakבָלָ֔קva.LakH1111, “Ifאִם־'im-H518Balakבָלָ֛קva.LakH1111were to giveיִתֶּן־yi.ten-H5414mehis houseבֵית֖וֹvei.ToH1004fullמְלֹ֥אme.Lo'H4393of silverכֶּ֣סֶףKe.sefH3701and goldוְזָהָ֑בve.za.HavH2091,I couldאוּכַ֗ל'u.KhalH3201notלֹ֣אlo'H3808doלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213anything smallקְטַנָּ֖הke.ta.NahH6996orא֥וֹ'oH176greatגְדוֹלָֽה׃ge.do.LahH1419to go beyondלַעֲבֹר֙la.'a.VorH5674אֶת־'et-H853the commandפִּי֙piH6310of the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068my Godאֱלֹהָ֔י'e.lo.HaiH430.

19So nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258,pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994stayשְׁב֨וּshe.VuH3427hereבָזֶ֛הva.ZehH2088overnightהַלָּ֑יְלָהha.La.ye.lahH3915as the others didגַּם־ אַתֶּ֖םgam- 'a.TemH1571 H859,that I may find outוְאֵ֣דְעָ֔הve.'E.de.'AhH3045whatמַה־mah-H4100elseיֹּסֵ֥ףyo.SefH3254the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has to tell meדַּבֵּ֥ר עִמִּֽי׃da.Ber 'i.MiH1696 H5973.”

20That nightלַיְלָה֒lay.LahH3915Godאֱלֹהִ֥ים׀'E.lo.HimH430cameוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Balaamבִּלְעָם֮bil.'AmH1109and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Sinceאִם־'im-H518these menהָאֲנָשִׁ֔יםha.'a.na.ShimH582have comeבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935to summonלִקְרֹ֤אlik.Ro'H7121you,get upק֖וּםkumH6965and goלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980with themאִתָּ֑ם'i.TamH854,but you must onlyוְאַ֗ךְve.'AkhH389אֶת־'et-H853הַדָּבָ֛רha.da.VarH1697doתַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ta.'a.SehH6213whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834I tell youאֲדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יךָ'a.da.Ber 'e.Lei.khaH1696 H413אֹת֥וֹ'o.ToH853.”

21So in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242Balaamבִּלְעָם֙bil.'AmH1109got upוַיָּ֤קָםvai.Ya.komH6965,saddledוַֽיַּחֲבֹ֖שׁvai.ya.cha.VoshH2280אֶת־'et-H853his donkeyאֲתֹנ֑וֹ'a.to.NoH860,and wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980withעִם־'im-H5973the princesשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of Moabמוֹאָֽב׃mo.'AvH4124.
