1Now the dayהַיּ֗וֹםhai.YomH3117cameוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961that JonathanH3083,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586,saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the youngהַנַּ֙עַר֙ha.Na.'arH5288manH5288who was carryingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375his armorכֵלָ֔יוkhe.LavH3627, “Comeלְכָ֗הle.KhahH1980,and let’s crossH5674overH5674to the Philistines’פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430garrisonמַצַּ֣בma.TzavH4673that is on the otherהַלָּ֑זha.LazH1975sideמֵעֵ֣בֶרme.'E.verH5676.”But he did not tellהִגִּֽיד׃hi.GidH5046his fatherוּלְאָבִ֖יוu.le.'a.VivH1.

2Saulוְשָׁא֗וּלve.sha.'UlH7586was stayingיוֹשֵׁב֙yo.ShevH3427on the outskirtsבִּקְצֵ֣הbik.TzehH7097ofGibeahהַגִּבְעָ֔הha.giv.'AhH1390underתַּ֥חַתTa.chatH8478the pomegranateהָרִמּ֖וֹןha.ri.MonH7416treeH7416that is inMigronבְּמִגְר֑וֹןbe.mig.RonH4051.And the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971whoH834were with him numberedabout sixכְּשֵׁ֥שׁke.SheshH8337hundredמֵא֖וֹתme.'otH3967menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376;

3and Ahijahוַאֲחִיָּ֣הva.'a.chi.YahH281, thesonבֶן־ven-H1121of Ahitubאֲחִט֡וּב'a.chi.TuvH285,Ichabod’sאִיכָב֣וֹד׀'i.kha.VodH350brotherאֲחִ֡י'a.ChiH251,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Phinehasפִּינְחָ֨סpin.ChasH6372,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Eliעֵלִ֜י'e.LiH5941,the priestכֹּהֵ֧ן׀ko.HenH3548of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068atShilohבְּשִׁל֖וֹbe.shi.LoH7887, waswearingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375an ephodאֵפ֑וֹד'e.FodH646.And the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971did not knowיָדַ֔עya.Da'H3045that JonathanH3083had goneהָלַ֖ךְha.LakhH1980.

4Nowbetweenוּבֵ֣יןu.VeinH996the gorgesהַֽמַּעְבְּר֗וֹתha.ma'.be.RotH4569by whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834JonathanH3083soughtבִּקֵּ֤שׁbi.KeshH1245to crossH5674overH5674to the Philistines’פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430garrisonמַצַּ֣בma.TzavH4673there was a rockyהַסֶּ֤לַעha.Se.la'H5553cragשֵׁן־shen-H8127on the oneמִזֶּ֔הmi.ZehH2088sideמֵהָעֵ֙בֶר֙me.ha.'E.verH5676,and a rockyהַסֶּ֥לַעha.Se.la'H5553cragוְשֵׁן־ve.shen-H8127on the otherמִזֶּ֑הmi.ZehH2088sideמֵהָעֵ֖בֶרme.ha.'E.verH5676;and the nameוְשֵׁ֤םve.ShemH8034of the oneהָֽאֶחָד֙ha.'e.ChadH259was Bozezבּוֹצֵ֔ץbo.TzetzH949,and the nameוְשֵׁ֥םve.ShemH8034of the otherהָאֶחָ֖דha.'e.ChadH259,Senehסֶֽנֶּה׃Se.nehH5573.

5The oneהָאֶחָ֛דha.'e.ChadH259cragהַשֵּׁ֧ןha.ShenH8127roseon the northמִצָּפ֖וֹןmi.tza.FonH6828oppositeמ֣וּלmulH4136Michmashמִכְמָ֑שׂmikh.MasH4363,and the otherוְהָאֶחָ֥דve.ha.'e.ChadH259on the southמִנֶּ֖גֶבmi.Ne.gevH5045oppositeמ֥וּלmulH4136Gebaגָּֽבַע׃ סGa.va'H1387.

6Then Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֜ןye.ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the youngהַנַּ֣עַר׀ha.Na.'arH5288manH5288who was carryingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375his armorכֵלָ֗יוkhe.LavH3627, “Comeלְכָה֙le.KhahH1980,and let’s crossH5674overH5674to the garrisonמַצַּב֙ma.TzavH4673oftheseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428uncircumcisedהָעֲרֵלִ֣יםha.'a.re.LimH6189men;perhapsאוּלַ֛י'u.LaiH194the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068will workיַעֲשֶׂ֥הya.'a.SehH6213for us, becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588the Lordלַֽיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068is not limitedמַעְצ֔וֹרma'.TzorH4622to savingלְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַle.ho.Shi.a'H3467by manyבְּרַ֖בbe.RavH7227orא֥וֹ'oH176by fewבִמְעָֽט׃vim.'AtH4592!”

7His armorכֵלָ֔יוkhe.LavH3627bearerנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Doעֲשֵׂ֖ה'a.SehH6213everythingכָּל־kol-H3605that is in your heartבִּלְבָבֶ֑ךָbil.va.Ve.khaH3824;turnנְטֵ֣הne.TehH5186yourself to it, andhereH2009I am with you, as your heartכִּלְבָבֶֽךָ׃ סkil.va.Ve.khaH3824desires.”

8Then Jonathanיְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ןye.Ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֛הhi.NehH2009,we are going to crossH5674overH5674to the menH376and revealוְנִגְלִ֖ינוּve.nig.Li.nuH1540ourselves to them.

9Ifאִם־'im-H518theysayיֹֽאמְרוּ֙yo.me.RuH559to us, ‘Waitדֹּ֕מּוּDo.muH1826untilעַד־'ad-H5704we comeהַגִּיעֵ֖נוּha.gi.'E.nuH5060to you’; then we will standוְעָמַ֣דְנוּve.'a.Mad.nuH5975inH8478our placeתַחְתֵּ֔ינוּtach.Tei.nuH8478and not goנַעֲלֶ֖הna.'a.LehH5927upH5927to them.

10But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518theysayיֹאמְר֜וּyo.me.RuH559, ‘Comeעֲל֤וּ'a.LuH5927upH5927to us,’ then we will goוְעָלִ֔ינוּve.'a.Li.nuH5927upH5927,for the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has handedבְּיָדֵ֑נוּbe.ya.De.nuH5414 H3027them overH5414to us; andthisוְזֶה־ve.zeh-H2088shall bethe signהָאֽוֹת׃ha.'otH226to us.”

11When the twoשְׁנֵיהֶ֔םshe.nei.HemH8147of them revealedוַיִּגָּל֣וּvai.yi.ga.LuH1540themselves to the garrisonמַצַּ֖בma.TzavH4673of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430,the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,Hebrewsעִבְרִים֙'iv.RimH5680are comingH3318outH3318of the holesהַחֹרִ֖יםha.cho.RimH2356whereאֲשֶׁ֥ר שָֽׁם׃'a.Sher ShamH834 H8033they have keptH2244themselves hiddenH2244.”

12So the menH376of the garrisonH4673respondedוַיַּעֲנוּ֩vai.ya.'a.NuH6030to JonathanH3083and his armorכֵלָ֗יוkhe.LavH3627bearerנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375and saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “Comeעֲל֣וּ'a.LuH5927upH5927to us andwe will informוְנוֹדִ֥יעָהve.no.Di.'ahH3045you of somethingדָּבָ֑ר פda.VarH1697.”And JonathanH3083saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his armorכֵלָיו֙khe.LavH3627bearerנֹשֵׂ֤אno.Se'H5375, “Comeעֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5927upH5927afterאַחֲרַ֔י'a.cha.RaiH310me, forthe Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has handedבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH5414 H3027them overH5414to Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”

13Then JonathanH3083climbedH5927upH5927on his handsיָדָיו֙ya.DavH3027and feetרַגְלָ֔יוrag.LavH7272,with his armorכֵלָ֖יוkhe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375behindאַחֲרָ֑יו'a.cha.RavH310him; and the menfellוַֽיִּפְּלוּ֙vai.yi.pe.LuH5307beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440JonathanH3083,and his armorכֵלָ֖יוkhe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375putH4191some toH4191deathH4191afterאַחֲרָֽיו׃'a.cha.RavH310him.

14Now that firstהָרִאשֹׁנָ֗הha.ri.sho.NahH7223slaughterהַמַּכָּ֣הha.ma.KahH4347whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834JonathanH3083and his armorכֵלָ֖יוkhe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375inflictedהִכָּ֧הhi.KahH5221was about twentyכְּעֶשְׂרִ֣יםke.'es.RimH6242menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376within about halfכְּבַחֲצִ֥יke.va.cha.TziH2677a furrowמַעֲנָ֖הma.'a.NahH4618in an acreצֶ֥מֶדTze.medH6776of landשָׂדֶֽה׃sa.DehH7704.

15And there was a tremblingחֲרָדָ֨הcha.ra.DahH2731in the campבַמַּחֲנֶ֤הva.ma.cha.NehH4264,in the fieldבַשָּׂדֶה֙va.sa.DehH7704,and among allוּבְכָל־u.ve.Khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971.Evenגַּם־gam-H1571the garrisonהַמַּצָּב֙ha.ma.TzavH4673andthe raidersH4889trembledחָרְד֖וּcha.re.DuH2729, andthe earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776quakedוַתִּרְגַּ֣זva.tir.GazH7264sothat it becameH1961agreatאֱלֹהִֽים׃'E.lo.HimH430tremblingלְחֶרְדַּ֥תle.cher.DatH2731.
