Elihu Vindicates God’s Justice

1Then ElihuH453 continuedH6030 and saidH559,2“HearH8085 my wordsH4405, you wiseH2450 menH2450, And listenH238 to me, you who knowH3045.3For 1the earH241 testsH974 wordsH4405 As the palateH2441 tastesH2938 foodH398.4Let us chooseH977 for ourselves whatH4941 is rightH4941; Let us knowH3045 amongH996 ourselves whatH4100 is goodH2896.5For JobH347 has saidH559, ‘2I am righteousH6663, But 3GodH410 has takenH5493 awayH5493 my rightH4941;64Should I lieH3576 concerningH5921 my rightH4941? My 56woundH2671 is incurableH605, though I am withoutH1097 transgressionH6588.’7WhatH4310 manH1397 is like JobH347, WhoH4310 7drinksH8354 up derisionH3933 like waterH4325,8Who goesH732 8in companyH2274 with the workersH6466 of iniquityH205, And walksH1980 with wickedH7562 menH376?9For he has saidH559, ‘9It profitsH5532 a manH1397 nothingH3808 When he 10is pleasedH7521 with GodH430.’

10“ThereforeH3651, listenH8085 to me, you menH376 of understandingH3824. FarH2486 be it from GodH410 to 11do wickednessH7562, And from the AlmightyH7706 to do wrongH5766.11For He paysH7999 a manH120 according to 12his workH6467, And makes 13him findH4672 it according to his wayH734.12SurelyH637H551, 14GodH410 will not actH7561 wickedlyH7561, And the AlmightyH7706 will not pervertH5791 justiceH4941.13WhoH4310 15gaveH6485 Him authorityH6845 overH5921 the earthH776? And whoH4310 16has laidH7760 on Him the wholeH3605 worldH8398?14IfH518 He should 17determineH7760H3820 to do so, If He should 18gatherH622 to Himself His spiritH7307 and His breathH5397,15AllH3605 19fleshH1320 would perishH1478 togetherH3162, And manH120 would 20returnH7725 to dustH6083.

16“But ifH518 you have understandingH998, hearH8085 thisH2088; ListenH238 to the soundH6963 of my wordsH4405.17Shall 21one who hatesH8130 justiceH4941 ruleH2280? And 22will you condemnH7561 the righteousH6662 mightyH3524 OneH3524,18Who saysH559 to a kingH4428, ‘WorthlessH1100 oneH1100,’ To noblesH5081, ‘WickedH7563 onesH7563’;19WhoH834 showsH5375 noH3808 23partialityH5375H6440 to princesH8269 NorH3808 regardsH5234 the richH7771 aboveH6440 the poorH1800, For they allH3605 are the 24workH4639 of His handsH3027?20In a momentH7281 they dieH4191, and 25at midnightH2676H3915 PeopleH5971 are shakenH1607 and passH5674 awayH5674, And 26the mightyH47 are takenH5493 awayH5493 withoutH3808 a handH3027.

21“For 27His eyesH5869 are upon the waysH1870 of a manH376, And He seesH7200 allH3605 his stepsH6806.22ThereH369 is 28noH369 darknessH2822 or deepH6757 shadowH6757 WhereH8033 the workersH6466 of iniquityH205 may hideH5641 themselves.23For He does not 29need to considerH7760 a manH376 furtherH5750, That he should goH1980 beforeH413 GodH410 in judgmentH4941.24He breaksH7489 in pieces 30mightyH3524 menH3524 withoutH3808 inquiryH2714, And setsH5975 othersH312 in their placeH8478.25ThereforeH3651 He 31knowsH5234 their worksH4566, And 32He overthrowsH2015 them in the nightH3915, And they are crushedH1792.26He 33strikesH5606 them likeH8478 the wickedH7563 34In a publicH7200 placeH4725,27BecauseH834H5921H3651 they 35turnedH5493 asideH5493 from followingH310 Him, And 36hadH7919 noH3808 regardH7919 for anyH3605 of His waysH1870;28So that they caused 37the cryH6818 of the poorH1800 to comeH935 to Him, And that He might 38hearH8085 the cryH6818 of the afflictedH6041--29When He keepsH8252 quietH8252, whoH4310 then can condemnH7561? And when He hidesH5641 His faceH6440, whoH4310 then can beholdH7789 Him, That is, in regardH5921 to bothH3162 nationH1471 and manH120?--30SoH4480 that 39godlessH2611 menH120 would not ruleH4427 NorH4480 be snaresH4170 of the peopleH5971.

31“For has anyone saidH559 to GodH410, ‘I have borneH5375 chastisement; I will not offendH2254 anymore;32TeachH3384 me what I do not seeH2372; IfH518 I have 40doneH6466 iniquityH5766, I will not doH3254 it againH3254’?33Shall He 41recompenseH7999 on your termsH5973, becauseH3588 you have rejectedH3988 it? For you must chooseH977, and not I; Therefore declareH1696 whatH4100 you knowH3045.34MenH376 of understandingH3824 will sayH559 to me, And a wiseH2450 manH1397 who hearsH8085 me,35‘JobH347 42speaksH1696 withoutH3808 knowledgeH1847, And his wordsH1697 are withoutH3808 wisdomH7919.36JobH347 oughtH994 to be triedH974 43to the limitH5331, BecauseH5921 he answersH8666 44like wickedH205 menH376.37For he addsH3254 45rebellionH6588 to his sinH2403; He 46clapsH5606 his hands amongH996 us, And multipliesH7235 his wordsH561 against GodH410.’”
