Job 7

Job’s Life Seems Futile

1“1Is not manH582 2forcedH6635 to laborH6635 on earthH776, And are not his daysH3117 like the daysH3117 of 3a hiredH7916 manH7916?2As a slaveH5650 who pantsH7602 for the shadeH6738, And as a hiredH7916 manH7916 who eagerlyH6960 waitsH6960 for his wagesH6467,3SoH3651 am I allottedH5157 monthsH3391 of vanityH7723, And 4nightsH3915 of troubleH5999 are appointedH4487 me.4WhenH518 I 5lieH7901 downH7901 I sayH559, ‘WhenH4970 shall I ariseH6965?’ But the nightH6153 continuesH4058, And I am 6continuallyH7646 tossingH5076 untilH5704 dawnH5399.5My 7fleshH1320 is clothedH3847 with wormsH7415 and a crustH1487 of dirtH6083, My skinH5785 hardensH7280 and runsH3988.6My daysH3117 are 8swifterH7043 thanH4480 a weaver’sH708 shuttleH708, And comeH3615 to an endH3615 9withoutH657 hopeH8615.

7“RememberH2142 that my lifeH2425 10is but breathH7307; My eyeH5869 will 11not againH7725 seeH7200 goodH2896.8The 12eyeH5869 of him who seesH7210 me will beholdH7789 me noH3808 longer; Your eyesH5869 will be on me, but 13I will not be.9When a 14cloudH6051 vanishesH3615, it is goneH1980, SoH3651 15he who goesH3381 downH3381 to 16SheolH7585 does not comeH5927 up.10He will not returnH7725 againH5750 to his houseH1004, NorH3808 will 17his placeH4725 knowH5234 him anymoreH5750.

11“ThereforeH1571 18I will not restrainH2820 my mouthH6310; I will speakH1696 in the anguishH6862 of my spiritH7307, I will complainH7878 in the bitternessH4751 of my soulH5315.12Am I the seaH3220, orH518 19the seaH8577 monsterH8577, That You setH7760 a guardH4929 overH5921 me?13IfH3588 I sayH559, ‘20My bedH6210 will comfortH5162 me, My couchH4904 will 21easeH5375 my complaintH7879,’14Then You frightenH2865 me with dreamsH2472 And terrifyH1204 me by visionsH2384;15So that my soulH5315 would chooseH977 suffocationH4267, DeathH4194 ratherH4480 thanH4480 my 22painsH6106.16I 2324wasteH3988 awayH3988; I will not liveH2421 foreverH5769. LeaveH2308 me aloneH4480, 25for my daysH3117 are but a breathH1892.1726WhatH4100 is manH582 that You magnifyH1431 him, And that You 27are concernedH7896H3820 aboutH413 him,18That 28You examineH6485 him every morningH1242 And tryH974 him every momentH7281?192930Will You neverH3808 turnH8159 Your gazeH8159 away from me, NorH3808 letH7503 me aloneH7503 untilH5704 I swallowH1104 my spittleH7536?2031Have I sinnedH2398? WhatH4100 have I doneH6466 to You, O 32watcherH5341 of menH120? WhyH4100 have You setH7760 me as Your targetH4645, So that I amH1961 a burdenH4853 to myself?21WhyH4100 then 33do You not pardonH5375 my transgressionH6588 And takeH5674 awayH5674 my iniquityH5771? For nowH6258 I will 34lieH7901 downH7901 in the dustH6083; And You will seekH7836 me, 35but I will not be.”
