Elihu Vindicates God’s Justice
1Then ElihuH453 continuedH6030 and saidH559,2“HearH8085 my wordsH4405, you wiseH2450 menH2450, And listenH238 to me, you who understandH3045.3For 1the earH241 testsH974 wordsH4405 As the palateH2441 tastesH2938 foodH398.4Let us chooseH977 for ourselves whatH4941 isH4941 rightH4941; Let us understandH3045 amongH996 ourselves whatH4100 is goodH2896.5For JobH347 has saidH559, ‘2I amH6663 righteousH6663, But 3GodH410 has takenH5493 awayH5493 my rightH4941;64Should I lieH3576 aboutH5921 my rightH4941? My 56woundH2671 is incurableH605, though I am withoutH1097 wrongdoingH6588.’7WhatH4310 manH1397 is like JobH347, WhoH4310 7drinksH8354 upH8354 derisionH3933 like waterH4325,8Who goesH732 8in companyH2274 with the workersH6466 of injusticeH205, And walksH1980 with wickedH7562 peopleH376?9For he has saidH559, ‘9It isH5532 ofH5532 noH3808 useH5532 to a manH1397 When he becomesH7521 friendsH7521 with GodH430.’
10“ThereforeH3651, listenH8085 to me, you menH376 of understandingH3824. FarH2486 be it from GodH410 to 10doH7562 evilH7562, And from the AlmightyH7706 to doH5766 wrongH5766.11For He repaysH7999 a personH120 for 11his workH6467, And letsH4672 things happenH4672 in correspondence to a man’s 12behaviorH734.1213GodH410 certainlyH637H551 will not actH7561 wickedlyH7561, And the AlmightyH7706 will not pervertH5791 justiceH4941.13WhoH4310 14gaveH6485 Him authorityH6485 overH5921 the earthH776? And whoH4310 15has placedH7760 the wholeH3605 worldH8398 on Him?14IfH518 He were to 16determineH7760H3820 to do so, If He were to 17gatherH622 His 18spiritH7307 and His breathH5397 to Himself,151920HumanityH3605H1320 would perishH1478 togetherH3162, And mankindH120 would 21returnH7725 to dustH6083.
16“But ifH518 you have understandingH998, hearH8085 thisH2088; ListenH238 to the soundH6963 of my wordsH4405.17Shall 22one who hatesH8130 justiceH4941 ruleH2280? And 23will you condemnH7561 the righteousH6662 mightyH3524 OneH3524,18Who saysH559 to a kingH4428, ‘You worthlessH1100 oneH1100,’ To noblesH5081, ‘You wickedH7563 oneH7563’;19WhoH834 showsH5375 noH3808 24partialityH5375H6440 to the prominentH8269, NorH3808 regardsH5234 the richH7771 as aboveH6440 the poorH1800, SinceH3588 they are allH3605 the 25workH4639 of His handsH3027?20In a momentH7281 they dieH4191, and 26at midnightH2676H3915 PeopleH5971 are shakenH1607 and passH5674 awayH5674, And 27the powerfulH47 are takenH5493 awayH5493 withoutH3808 a handH3027.
21“For 28His eyesH5869 are upon the waysH1870 of a personH376, And He seesH7200 allH3605 his stepsH6806.22ThereH369 isH369 29noH369 darknessH2822 or deepH6757 shadowH6757 WhereH8033 the workersH6466 of injusticeH205 can hideH5641 themselves.23For He does not 30need to considerH7760 a personH376 furtherH5750, That he should goH1980 beforeH413 GodH410 in judgmentH4941.24He breaksH7489 in pieces the 31mightyH3524 withoutH3808 investigationH2714, And setsH5975 othersH312 inH8478 their placeH8478.25ThereforeH3651 He 32knowsH5234 their deedsH4566, And 33He overthrowsH2015 them in the nightH3915, And they are crushedH1792.26He 34strikesH5606 them likeH8478 the wickedH7563 35In a publicH7200 placeH4725,27BecauseH834H5921H3651 they 36turnedH5493 asideH5493 from followingH310 Him, And 37hadH7919 noH3808 regardH7919 for anyH3605 of His waysH1870,28So that they caused 38the cryH6818 of the poorH1800 to comeH935 to Him, And that He would 39hearH8085 the cryH6818 of the afflictedH6041--29When He keepsH8252 quietH8252, whoH4310 can condemnH7561? And when He hidesH5641 His faceH6440, whoH4310 then can lookH7789 atH7789 Him, That is, regardingH5921 bothH3162 nationH1471 and a personH120?--30SoH4480 thatH4480 40godlessH2611 peopleH120 would notH4480 ruleH4427, NorH4480 be snaresH4170 for the peopleH5971.
31“For has anyone saidH559 to GodH410, ‘I have enduredH5375 punishment; I will not offendH2254 anymore;32TeachH3384 me what I do not seeH2372; IfH518 I have 41doneH6466 wrongH5766, I will not doH3254 it againH3254’?33Shall God 42repayH7999 on your termsH5973, becauseH3588 you have rejectedH3988 His? For you must chooseH977, and not I; Therefore declareH1696 whatH4100 you knowH3045.34MenH376 of understandingH3824 will sayH559 to me, And a wiseH2450 manH1397 who hearsH8085 me,35‘JobH347 43speaksH1696 withoutH3808 knowledgeH1847, And his wordsH1697 are withoutH3808 wisdomH7919.36OhH21 thatH21 JobH347 were testedH974 44to the limitH5331, BecauseH5921 45he answersH8666 46like sinnersH205H376.37For he addsH3254 47rebellionH6588 to his sinH2403; He 48clapsH5606 his hands amongH996 us, And multipliesH7235 his wordsH561 against GodH410.’”
