Job Tells of Earth’s Treasures
1“SurelyH3588 thereH3426 is a 1mineH4161 for silverH3701 And a placeH4725 2where they refineH2212 goldH2091.2IronH1270 is takenH3947 from the dustH6083, And copperH5154 is smeltedH6694 from rockH68.3Man putsH7760 an endH7093 to darknessH2822, And 3to the farthestH3605 limitH8503 he searchesH2713 out The rockH68 in gloomH652 and deepH6757 shadowH6757.4He 4sinksH6555 a shaftH5158 far from 5habitationH1481, ForgottenH7911 by the footH7272; They hangH1809 and swingH5128 to and froH5128 far from menH582.5The earthH776, from it comesH3318 foodH3899, And underneathH8478 it is turnedH2015 up as fireH784.6Its rocksH68 are the 6sourceH4725 of sapphiresH5601, And its dustH6083 contains goldH2091.7The pathH5410 noH3808 birdH5861 of preyH5861 knowsH3045, NorH3808 has the falcon’sH344 eyeH5869 caughtH7805 sightH7805 of it.8The 7proudH7830 beastsH1121 have not troddenH1869 it, NorH3808 has the fierce lionH7826 passedH5710 overH5921 it.9He putsH7971 his handH3027 on the flintH2496; He overturnsH2015 the mountainsH2022 at the 8baseH8328.10He hewsH1234 out channelsH2975 through the rocksH6697, And his eyeH5869 seesH7200 anythingH3605 preciousH3366.11He damsH2280 up the streamsH5104 from 9flowingH1065, And whatH8587 is hiddenH8587 he bringsH3318 out to the lightH216.
The Search for Wisdom Is Harder
12“But 10whereH370 can wisdomH2451 be foundH4672? And whereH335 is the placeH4725 of understandingH998?1311ManH582 does not knowH3045 its valueH6187, NorH3808 is it foundH4672 in the landH776 of the livingH2416.14The deepH8415 saysH559, ‘It is not in me’; And the seaH3220 saysH559, ‘It is not with me.’1512PureH5462 goldH5458 cannotH3808 be givenH5414 in exchangeH8478 for it, NorH3808 can silverH3701 be weighedH8254 as its priceH4242.16It cannotH3808 be valuedH5541 in the goldH3800 of OphirH211, In preciousH3368 onyxH7718, or sapphireH5601.1713GoldH2091 or glassH2137 cannotH3808 equalH6186 it, NorH3808 can it be exchangedH8545 for articlesH3627 of fineH6337 goldH6337.18CoralH7215 and crystalH1378 are not to be mentionedH2142; And the acquisitionH4901 of 14wisdomH2451 is aboveH4480 that of pearlsH6443.19The topazH6357 of EthiopiaH3568 cannotH3808 equalH6186 it, NorH3808 can it be valuedH5541 in 15pureH2889 goldH3800.2016WhereH370 then does wisdomH2451 comeH935 from? And whereH335 is the placeH4725 of understandingH998?21Thus it is hiddenH5956 from the eyesH5869 of allH3605 livingH2416 And concealedH5641 from the birdsH5775 of the skyH8064.221718AbaddonH11 and DeathH4194 sayH559, ‘With our earsH241 we have heardH8085 a reportH8088 of it.’
23“19GodH430 understandsH995 its wayH1870, And He knowsH3045 its placeH4725.24For He 20looksH5027 to the endsH7098 of the earthH776 And seesH7200 everythingH3605 underH8478 the heavensH8064.25When He impartedH6213 21weightH4948 to the windH7307 And 22metedH8505 out the watersH4325 by measureH4060,26When He setH6213 a 23limitH2706 for the rainH4306 And a courseH1870 for the 24thunderboltH6963H2385,27ThenH227 He sawH7200 it and declaredH5608 it; He establishedH3559 it and alsoH1571 searchedH2713 it out.28And to manH120 He saidH559, ‘BeholdH2005, the 25fearH3374 of the LordH136, that is wisdomH2451; And to departH5493 from evilH7451 is understandingH998.’”
