Elihu Confirms God’s Justice
1Then ElihuH453 continuedH6030H559:
2“HearH8085 my wordsH4405, O wise menH2450;give earH238 to me, O men of learningH3045.3ForH3588 the earH241 testsH974 wordsH4405as the mouthH2441 tastesH2938 foodH398.4Let us chooseH977 for ourselves what is rightH4941;let us learnH3045 togetherH996 whatH4100 is goodH2896.5ForH3588 JobH347 has declaredH559, ‘I am righteousH6663,yet GodH410 has deprived me ofH5493 justiceH4941.6Would I lieH3576 aboutH5921 my caseH4941?My woundH2671 is incurableH605,though I am withoutH1097 transgressionH6588.’7WhatH4310 manH1397 is like JobH347,who drinks upH8354 derisionH3933 like waterH4325?8He keepsH732 companyH2274 withH5973 evildoersH6466H205and walksH1980 withH5973 wickedH7562 menH582.9ForH3588 he has saidH559, ‘It profitsH5532 a manH1397 nothingH3808that he should delightH7521 inH5973 GodH430.’
10ThereforeH3651 listenH8085 to me,O menH582 of understandingH3824.Far be itH2486 from GodH410 to do wrongH7562,and from the AlmightyH7706 to act unjustlyH5766.11ForH3588 according to a man’s deedsH120H6467 He repaysH7999 him;according to a man’sH376 waysH734 He brings consequencesH4672.12IndeedH637, it is trueH551 that GodH410 does notH3808 act wickedlyH7561,and the AlmightyH7706 does notH3808 pervertH5791 justiceH4941.13WhoH4310 gave Him chargeH6485 over the earthH776?WhoH4310 appointedH7760 Him over the wholeH3605 worldH8398?14IfH518 He were to setH7760 His heartH3820 to itH413and withdrawH622 His SpiritH7307 and breathH5397H413,15allH3605 fleshH1320 would perishH1478 togetherH3162and mankindH120 would returnH7725 toH5921 the dustH6083.
16IfH518 you have understandingH998, hearH8085 thisH2063;listen toH238H6963 my wordsH4405.17CouldH637 one who hatesH8130 justiceH4941 governH2280H518?Will you condemnH7561 the justH6662 and mighty OneH3524,18who saysH559 to kingsH4428, ‘You are worthlessH1100!’and toH413 noblesH5081, ‘You are wickedH7563,’19whoH834 is notH3808 partialH5375H6440 to princesH8269and does notH3808 favorH5234 richH7771 overH6440 poorH1800?ForH3588 they are allH3605 the workH4639 of His handsH3027.20They dieH4191 in an instantH7281,in the middleH2676 of the nightH3915.The peopleH5971 convulseH1607 and pass awayH5674;the mightyH47 are removedH5493 withoutH3808 human handH3027.
21ForH3588 His eyesH5869 are onH5921 the waysH1870 of a manH376,and He seesH7200 his every stepH3605H6806.22There is noH369 darknessH2822 or deep shadowH6757whereH8033 the workersH6466 of iniquityH205 can hideH5641.23ForH3588 GodH410 need notH3808H5921 examineH7760 a manH376 furtherH5750or have him approachH1980H413 for judgmentH4941.24He shattersH7489 the mightyH3524 withoutH3808 inquiryH2714and sets upH5975 othersH312 in their placeH8478.25ThereforeH3651, He recognizesH5234 their deedsH4566;He overthrowsH2015 them in the nightH3915 and they are crushedH1792.26He strikes themH5606 forH8478 their wickednessH7563in fullH4725 viewH7200,27becauseH834H5921H3651 they turned asideH5493 from HimH310and had noH3808 regardH7919 for anyH3605 of His waysH1870.28They caused the cryH6818 of the poorH1800 to comeH935 before HimH5921,and He heardH8085 the outcryH6818 of the afflictedH6041.29But when HeH1931 remains silentH8252, whoH4310 can condemn HimH7561?When He hidesH5641 His faceH6440, whoH4310 can see HimH7789?Yet He watches overH5921 bothH3162 manH120 and nationH1471H5921,30that godlessH2611 menH120 should not ruleH4427or lay snaresH4170 for the peopleH5971.
31SupposeH3588 someone saysH559 toH413 GodH410,‘I have endured my punishmentH5375; I will offendH2254 no moreH3808.32Teach meH3384 what I cannotH1107 seeH2372H859;ifH518 I have doneH6466 wrongH5766, I will notH3808 do it againH3254.’33Should God repay youH7999 on your own termsH5973whenH3588 you have disavowed HimH3988H3588?YouH859 must chooseH977, notH3808 IH589;so tell meH1696 whatH4100 you knowH3045.34MenH582 of understandingH3824 will declareH559 to me,and the wiseH2450 menH1397 who hear meH8085 will say:35‘JobH347 speaksH1696 withoutH3808 knowledgeH1847;his wordsH1697 lackH3808 insightH7919.’36If onlyH15 JobH347 were triedH974 toH5704 the utmostH5331forH5921 answeringH8666 like a wickedH205 manH582.37ForH3588 he addsH3254 rebellionH6588 toH5921 his sinH2403;he clapsH5606 his hands among usH996and multipliesH7235 his wordsH561 against GodH410.”
