9As JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424wentπαράγωνparagōnG3855on from thereἐκεῖθενekeithenG1564,He sawG3708a manἄνθρωπονanthrōponG444calledλεγόμενον,legomenonG3004MatthewG3102,sittingκαθήμενονkathēmenonG2521in the taxτελώνιον,telōnionG5058collector’sG5058boothG5058;and He saidλέγειlegeiG3004to him, “FollowἀκολούθειakoloutheiG190Me!”And he gotἀναστὰςanastasG450up and followedἠκολούθησενēkolouthēsenG190Him.

10ThenG2532it happenedἐγένετοegenetoG1096that asJesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424was recliningἀνακειμένουanakeimenouG345at the tablein the houseοἰκίᾳ,oikiaG3614,beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,manyπολλοὶpolloiG4183taxτελῶναιtelōnaiG5057collectorsG5057andsinnersἁμαρτωλοὶhamartōloiG268cameἐλθόντεςelthontesG2064and were diningσυνανέκειντοsunanekeintoG4873with JesusG2424and His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101.

11When the PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330sawG3708this,they saidἔλεγονelegonG3004to His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101, “Whyδιὰ τίdia tiG1223 G5101is your TeacherδιδάσκαλοςdidaskalosG1320eatingἐσθίειesthieiG2068with the taxτελωνῶνtelōnōnG5057collectorsG5057and sinnersἁμαρτωλῶνhamartōlōnG268?”

12But when Jesus heardἀκούσαςakousasG191this,He saidG3004, “It is notthoseG3588who are healthyἰσχύοντεςischuontesG2480who needχρείανchreianG5532a physicianἰατροῦiatrouG2395,but thoseG3588who are sickκακῶςkakōsG2560.

13But goπορευθέντεςporeuthentesG4198and learnμάθετεmatheteG3129whatτίtiG5101this meansἐστιν·estinG1510: ‘I desireθέλωthelōG2309compassionἔλεοςeleosG1656,and not sacrificeθυσίαν·thusianG2378,’ forI did not comeἦλθονēlthonG2064to callκαλέσαιkalesaiG2564the righteousδικαίουςdikaiousG1342,but sinnersἁμαρτωλούςhamartōlousG268.”

14ThenΤότεToteG5119the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101of JohnἸωάννουIōannouG2491cameπροσέρχονταιproserchontaiG4334to Him, askingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “Whyδιὰ τίdia tiG1223 G5101do we andthe PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330fastνηστεύομενnēsteuomenG3522,but Your disciplesμαθηταίmathētaiG3101do not fastνηστεύουσιν;¶nēsteuousinG3522?”

15And JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004to them, “TheattendantsυἱοὶhuioiG5207of the bridegroomνυμφῶνοςnumphōnosG3567cannotμὴ δύνανταιmē dunantaiG1410 G3361mournπενθεῖνpentheinG3996as longὅσονhosonG3745as the bridegroomνυμφίος;numphiosG3566is with them, can they? But the daysἡμέραιhēmeraiG2250will comeἐλεύσονταιeleusontaiG2064whenὅτανhotanG3752the bridegroomνυμφίος,numphiosG3566is takenG522awayἀπαρθῇaparthēaG522from them, and thenτότεtoteG5119they will fastνηστεύσουσιν.nēsteusousinG3522.

16But noG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762putsἐπιβάλλειepiballeiG1911a patchἐπίβλημαepiblēmaG1915of unshrunkἀγνάφουagnaphouG46clothῥάκουςrhakousG4470on an oldπαλαιῷ·palaiōG3820garmentἱματίῳhimatiōG2440; forthe patchπλήρωμαplērōmaG4138pullsG142awayαἴρειaireiG142from the garmentἱματίου,himatiouG2440,and a worseχεῖρονcheironG5501tearσχίσμαschismaG4978resultsγίνεται.ginetaiG1096.

17NorοὐδὲoudeG3761do peopleputβάλλουσινballousinG906newνέονneonG3501wineοἶνονoinonG3631into oldπαλαιούς·palaiousG3820wineskinsἀσκοὺςaskousG779;otherwiseG1490the wineskinsἀσκοί,askoiG779burstῥήγνυνταιrhēgnuntaiG4486,and the wineοἶνοςoinosG3631poursἐκχεῖταιekcheitaiG1632out and the wineskinsἀσκοὶaskoiG779are ruinedἀπόλλυνται.apolluntaiG622;but they putβάλλουσινballousinG906newνέονneonG3501wineοἶνονoinonG3631into freshκαινούς,kainousG2537wineskinsἀσκοὺςaskousG779,and bothἀμφότεροιamphoteroiG297are preservedσυντηροῦνται.¶suntērountaiG4933.”
