15And ithappenedγίνεταιginetaiG1096that He was recliningκατακεῖσθαιkatakeisthaiG2621at the tablein his houseοἰκίᾳoikiaG3614,and manyπολλοὶpolloiG4183taxτελῶναιtelōnaiG5057collectorsG5057andsinnersἁμαρτωλοὶhamartōloiG268were diningσυνανέκειντοsunanekeintoG4873with JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424and His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101;for there were manyπολλοί,polloiG4183of them, and they were followingἠκολούθουνēkolouthounG190Him.

16Whenthe scribesγραμματεῖςgrammateisG1122of the PhariseesΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnG5330sawG3708that He was eatingἐσθίειesthieiG2068with the sinnersἁμαρτωλῶνhamartōlōnG268and taxτελωνῶνtelōnōnG5057collectorsG5057,they saidἔλεγονelegonG3004to His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101, “WhyG5101is He eatingἐσθίειesthieiG2068and drinkingG4095with taxτελωνῶνtelōnōnG5057collectorsG5057andsinnersἁμαρτωλῶνhamartōlōnG268?”

17And hearingἀκούσαςakousasG191this,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them, “It isnot thoseG3588who are healthyἰσχύοντεςischuontesG2480who needχρείανchreianG5532a physicianἰατροῦiatrouG2395,but thoseG3588who are sickκακῶςkakōsG2560;I did not comeἦλθονēlthonG2064to callκαλέσαιkalesaiG2564the righteousδικαίουςdikaiousG1342,but sinnersἁμαρτωλούςhamartōlousG268.”

18John’sἸωάννουIōannouG2491disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101and the PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330were fastingνηστεύοντεςnēsteuontesG3522;and they cameἔρχονταιerchontaiG2064and saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to Him, “Whyδιὰ τίdia tiG1223 G5101do John’sἸωάννουIōannouG2491disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101and the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101of the PhariseesΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnG5330fastνηστεύουσιν,nēsteuousinG3522,but Your disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101do not fastνηστεύουσιν;¶nēsteuousinG3522?”

19And JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004to them,“Whileἐν ᾧen hōG1722 G3739the bridegroomνυμφίοςnumphiosG3566is with them,the attendantsυἱοὶhuioiG5207of the bridegroomνυμφῶνοςnumphōnosG3567cannotδύνανταιdunantaiG1410fastνηστεύειν;nēsteueinG3522,can they? SoὅσονhosonG3745longχρόνονchrononG5550as they haveἔχουσινechousinG2192the bridegroomνυμφίονnumphionG3566with them, they cannotοὐ δύνανταιou dunantaiG1410 G3756fastνηστεύειν.nēsteueinG3522.

20But thedaysἡμέραιhēmeraiG2250will comeἐλεύσονταιeleusontaiG2064whenὅτανhotanG3752the bridegroomνυμφίος,numphiosG3566is takenG522awayἀπαρθῇaparthēaG522from them, and thenτότεtoteG5119they will fastνηστεύσουσινnēsteusousinG3522in that dayἡμέρᾳ.¶hēmeraG2250.

21“NoG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762sewsἐπιράπτειepirapteiG1976a patchἐπίβλημαepiblēmaG1915of unshrunkἀγνάφουagnaphouG46clothῥάκουςrhakousG4470on an oldπαλαιόν·palaionG3820garmentἱμάτιονhimationG2440;otherwiseG1490the patchπλήρωμαplērōmaG4138pullsG142awayαἴρειaireiG142from it, the newκαινὸνkainonG2537from the oldπαλαιοῦ,palaiouG3820,and a worseχεῖρονcheironG5501tearσχίσμαschismaG4978resultsγίνεται.¶ginetaiG1096.
