Nahum 3
Darby Bible
1WoeH1945 to the bloody cityH5892! It is all full of lies [and] violence; the preyH2964 departeth not. 2The crack of the whipH7752, and the noise of the rattling of the wheelsH212, and of the prancing horsesH5483, and of the bounding chariotsH4818! 3The horseman springing up, and the glitter of the swordH2719, and the flashH1300 of the spearH2595, and a multitudeH7230 of slainH2491, and a mass of carcases, and no endH7097 of corpsesH6297: they stumbleH3782 over their corpsesH6297. 4— Because of the multitudeH7230 of the fornications of the well-favoured harlot, mistressH1172 of sorceriesH3785, that selleth nationsH1471 through her fornications, and familiesH4940 through her sorceriesH3785, 5behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635; and I will uncoverH1540 thy skirtsH7757 upon thy faceH6440, and I will shew the nationsH1471 thy nakedness, and the kingdomsH4467 thy shameH7036. 6And I will castH7993 abominable filth upon thee, and makeH7760 thee vile, and will setH7760 thee as a gazing stock. 7And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that seeH7200 thee shall fleeH5074 from thee, and shall sayH559, NinevehH5210 is laid waste! Who will bemoan her? whence shall I seekH1245 comfortersH5162 for thee? 8Art thou betterH3190 than No-Amon, that was situate among the riversH2975, [that had] the watersH4325 roundH5439 about her, whose rampartH2426 was the seaH3220, [and] of the seaH3220 was her wallH2346? 9Ethiopia was her strength, and EgyptH4714, and it was infinite; Phut and the LibyansH3864 wereH1961 her helpers. 10She too was carried away, she wentH1980 into captivityH7628: her infants alsoH1571 were dashedH7376 in pieces, at the topH7218 of all the streetsH2351; and they castH3032 lotsH1486 for her honourable men, and all her greatH1419 men were bound with chains. 11Thou alsoH1571 shalt beH1961 drunken: thou shalt beH1961 hid; thou alsoH1571 shalt seekH1245 a refugeH4581 from the enemyH341. 12All thy strongholdsH4013 are [like] fig-trees with the first-ripe figsH8384: if they be shakenH5128, they even fallH5307 into the mouthH6310 of the eater. 13Behold, thy peopleH5971 in the midstH7130 of thee are [as] womenH802: the gatesH8179 of thy landH776 are set wide openH6605 unto thine enemiesH341; the fireH784 devoureth thy barsH1280. 14DrawH7579 thee waterH4325 for the siegeH4692, strengthenH2388 thy fortressesH4013; goH935 into the clayH2916, and tread the mortar, makeH2388 strongH2388 the brick-kiln. 15There shall the fireH784 devourH398 thee; the swordH2719 shall cutH3772 thee off; it shall devourH398 thee like the cankerworm. MakeH3772 thyself many as the cankerworm, makeH3772 thyself many as the locustH697. 16Thou hast multipliedH7235 thy merchants more than the starsH3556 of the heavensH8064; the cankerworm spreadeth himself out and flieth away. 17Thy chosen men are as the locustsH697, and thy captains as swarms of grasshoppers, which campH2583 in the hedges in the cold dayH3117: when the sunH8121 ariseth they fleeH5074 awayH5074, and their placeH4725 is not knownH3045 whereH335 they are. 18Thy shepherdsH7462 slumberH5123, O kingH4428 of AssyriaH804; thy noblesH117 lie still; thy peopleH5971 are scattered upon the mountainsH2022, and no man gathereth them. 19There is no healing of thy breach; thy woundH4347 is grievous; all that hearH8085 the reportH8088 of thee clap the handsH3709 over thee; for upon whom hath not thy wickednessH7451 passedH5674 continuallyH8548?
