Ezra 9

Darby Bible

1Now when these thingsH428 were completedH3615, the princesH8269 came to me, sayingH559, The peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478, and the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, have not separatedH914 themselves from the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776, according to their abominationsH8441, [even] of the CanaanitesH3669, the HittitesH2850, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the AmmonitesH5984, the MoabitesH4125, the EgyptiansH4713, and the AmoritesH567; 2for they have takenH5375 of their daughtersH1323 for themselves and for their sonsH1121, and have mingled the holyH6944 seedH2233 with the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776; and the handH3027 of the princesH8269 and rulers has beenH1961 chiefH8269 in this unfaithfulnessH4604. 3And when I heardH8085 this thingH1697, I rent my mantle and my garmentH899, and plucked off the hairH8181 of my headH7218 and of my beardH2206, and satH3427 downH3427 overwhelmed. 4Then were assembled to me every one that trembled at the wordsH1697 of the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478, because of the unfaithfulnessH4604 of those that had been carried away; and I satH3427 overwhelmed until the eveningH6153 oblation. 5And at the eveningH6153 oblation I aroseH6965 up from my humiliation; and with my mantle and my garmentH899 rent, I fell on my knees, and spreadH6566 out my handsH3709 to Jehovah my 2GodH430, 6and saidH559: O my 3GodH430, I am ashamedH954 and blush to liftH7311 up my faceH6440 to thee, my 4GodH430; for our iniquitiesH5771 are increasedH7235 over [our] headH7218, and our trespass is grownH1431 up to the heavensH8064. 7Since the daysH3117 of our fathersH1, we have been in greatH1419 trespass to this dayH3117; and for our iniquitiesH5771 we, our kingsH4428, our priestsH3548, have been givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the kingsH4428 of the landsH776, to the swordH2719, and to captivityH7628, and to spoil, and to confusion of faceH6440, as it is this dayH3117. 8And nowH6258 for a littleH4592 space there hath beenH1961 favour from Jehovah our 5GodH430, to leaveH7604 us a remnantH7604 to escapeH6413, and to giveH5414 us a nail in his holyH6944 placeH4725, that our 6GodH430 may lighten our eyesH5869, and giveH5414 us a littleH4592 reviving in our bondage. 9For we are bondmen; yet our 7GodH430 hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extendedH5186 mercy unto us before the kingsH4428 of PersiaH6539, to giveH5414 us a reviving, to setH5414 up the houseH1004 of our 8GodH430 and to repair the ruinsH2723 thereof, and to giveH5414 us a wallH1447 in JudahH3063 and in JerusalemH3389. 10And nowH6258, what shall we sayH559, our 9GodH430, after this? for we have forsaken thy commandmentsH4687, 11which thou hast commandedH6680 by thy servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, sayingH559, The landH776, unto which ye goH935 to possessH3423 [it], is an unclean landH776 through the filthiness of the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776, through their abominationsH8441 with which they have filledH4390 it from one end to another through their uncleanness. 12NowH6258 thereforeH6258 giveH5414 not your daughtersH1323 to their sonsH1121, neither takeH5375 their daughtersH1323 to your sonsH1121, nor seekH1875 their peaceH7965 or their prosperity for everH5769; that ye may be strongH2388, and eatH398 the goodH2896 of the landH776, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for everH5769. 13And after all that is comeH935 upon us for our evilH7451 deedsH4639 and for our greatH1419 trespass, seeing that thou our 10GodH430 hast punished us less than our iniquitiesH5771 [deserve], and hast givenH5414 us such deliveranceH6413 as this, 14should we again breakH6565 thy commandmentsH4687, and join in affinity with the peoplesH5971 of these abominationsH8441? wouldest thou not be angryH599 with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnantH7611 nor any to escapeH6413? 15Jehovah, 11GodH430 of IsraelH3478, thou art righteousH6662; for we are a remnantH7604 that is escapedH6413, as [it is] this dayH3117. Behold, we are before thee in our trespasses; for there is no standingH5975 before thee because of this.
