Darby Bible

1ThenH116 kingH4430 DariusH1868 gave orders, and searchH1240 was made in the houseH1005 of the rolls, where the treasures were laid up in BabylonH895. 2And there was foundH7912 at Achmetha in the fortress that is in the provinceH4083 of Media a roll, and therein was a record thus written: 3In the first yearH8140 of kingH4430 CyrusH3567, kingH4430 CyrusH3567 madeH7761 a decreeH2942 [concerning] the houseH1005 of 1GodH426 at JerusalemH3390: Let the houseH1005 be builtH1124 for a placeH870 where they offer sacrifices, and let its foundationsH787 be solidly laid; its heightH7314 sixtyH8361 cubitsH521, its breadth sixtyH8361 cubitsH521, 4[with] threeH8532 rows of great stonesH69, and a row of new timberH636; and let the expenses be given out of the king's houseH1005: 5and alsoH638 let the golden and silverH3702 vesselsH3984 of the houseH1005 of 2GodH426, which NebuchadnezzarH5020 took out of the temple that is at JerusalemH3390 and brought to BabylonH895, be restored and brought again to the temple that is at JerusalemH3390, in their placeH870; and thou shalt put [them] in the houseH1005 of 3GodH426. 6Therefore Tatnai, governorH6347 beyond the riverH5103, Shethar-boznai, and your companions the Apharsachites, who are beyond the riverH5103, be ye far from thence: 7let the workH5673 of this houseH1005 of 4GodH426 alone; let the governorH6347 of the JewsH3062 and the eldersH7868 of the JewsH3062 build this houseH1005 of 5GodH426 in its placeH870. 8Moreover, I give orders what ye shall do to these eldersH7868 of the JewsH3062, for the buildingH1124 of this houseH1005 of 6GodH426: that of the king's goods, of the tributeH4061 beyond the riverH5103, expenses be diligentlyH629 given to these menH1400, that they be not hindered. 9And that which they have need of, both young bullocks and ramsH1798 and lambsH563, for the burnt-offerings to the 7GodH426 of the heavensH8065, wheat, saltH4416, wineH2562, and oilH4887, according to the appointment of the priestsH3549 that are at JerusalemH3390, let it be given them dayH3118 by dayH3118 without fail; 10that they may present sweet odours to the 8GodH426 of the heavensH8065, and prayH6739 for the life of the kingH4430 and of his sons. 11Also I have given order that whosoever shall alter this rescript, let timberH636 be pulled down from his houseH1005, and being setH7761 up, let him be hanged thereon, and let his houseH1005 be made a dunghill for this. 12And the 9GodH426 that has caused his nameH8036 to dwell there overthrow every kingH4430 and peopleH5972 that shall put forth their handH3028 to alter [or] to destroyH2255 this houseH1005 of 10GodH426 which is at JerusalemH3390. I DariusH1868 have given [this] order; let it be done diligentlyH629. 13ThenH116 Tatnai, governorH6347 on this side the riverH5103, Shethar-boznai, and their companions, because of that which kingH4430 DariusH1868 had sent, did so diligentlyH629. 14And the eldersH7868 of the JewsH3062 builtH1124; and they prosperedH6744 through the prophesying of HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5029 and ZechariahH2148 the sonH1247 of IddoH5714. And they builtH1124 and completed [it] accordingH4481 to the commandment of the 11GodH426 of IsraelH3479, and accordingH4481 to the commandment of CyrusH3567, and DariusH1868, and ArtaxerxesH783 kingH4430 of PersiaH6540. 15And this houseH1005 was finished on the third dayH3118 of the month Adar, which was in the sixth yearH8140 of the reignH4437 of kingH4430 DariusH1868. 16And the children of IsraelH3479, the priestsH3549 and the LevitesH3879, and the restH7606 of the children of the captivity, kept the dedicationH2597 of this houseH1005 of 12GodH426 with joy; 17and they presented at the dedicationH2597 of this houseH1005 of 13GodH426 a hundredH3969 bullocks, two hundredH3969 ramsH1798, fourH703 hundredH3969 lambsH563, and for a sin-offering for all IsraelH3479, twelve he-goats, according to the number of the tribes of IsraelH3479. 18And they setH6966 the priestsH3549 in their classes, and the LevitesH3879 in their divisions, for the service of 14GodH426, which is at JerusalemH3390: as it is written in the bookH5609 of Moses. 19And the children of the captivity held the passoverH6453 upon the fourteenth of the firstH7223 monthH2320. 20For the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881 had purifiedH2891 themselves as oneH259 [man]: they were all pureH2889; and they killed the passoverH6453 for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priestsH3548, and for themselves. 21And the children of IsraelH3478 that were come backH7725 out of captivity, and all such as had separatedH914 themselves to them from the filthiness of the nationsH1471 of the landH776, to seekH1875 Jehovah the 15GodH430 of IsraelH3478, did eatH398; 22and they kept the feastH2282 of unleavenedH4682 breadH4682 sevenH7651 daysH3117 with joyH8057; for Jehovah had madeH6213 them joyful, and turnedH5437 the heartH3820 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 to them, to strengthenH2388 their handsH3027 in the workH4399 of the houseH1004 of 16GodH430, the 17GodH430 of IsraelH3478.
