Ezra 5

1Now the prophets, HaggaiH2292 the prophet and ZechariahH2148 the sonH1247 of IddoH5714, prophesied to the JewsH3062 that were in JudahH3061 and JerusalemH3390; in the nameH8036 of the 1GodH426 of IsraelH3479 [did they prophesy] to them. 2ThenH116 rose up Zerubbabel the sonH1247 of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the sonH1247 of Jozadak, and began to build the houseH1005 of 2GodH426 which is at JerusalemH3390; and with them were the prophetsH5029 of 3GodH426, who helped them. 3At that timeH2166 cameH858 to them Tatnai, governorH6347 on this side the riverH5103, and Shethar-boznai, and their companions, and saidH560 thus to them: Who gave you orders to build this houseH1005 and to complete this wall? 4And they saidH560 to them after this manner: What are the namesH8036 of the menH1400 that build this buildingH1124? 5But the eye of their 4GodH426 was upon the eldersH7868 of the JewsH3062, and they did not make them ceaseH989 till the matter came to DariusH1868; and thenH116 they returnedH8421 answer by letter concerningH5922 it. 6The copyH6573 of the letterH104 that Tatnai, governorH6347 on this side the riverH5103, and Shethar-boznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, who were on this side the riverH5103, sent to DariusH1868 the kingH4430. 7They sent a report to him in which was written thus: To DariusH1868 the kingH4430, all peaceH8001! 8Be it knownH3046 to the kingH4430 that we went into the provinceH4083 of JudahH3061, to the houseH1005 of the greatH7229 5GodH426, which is being builtH1124 with greatH7229 stonesH69, and timberH636 is laid in the walls, and this workH5673 is being carried on with diligence, and prospers in their handH3028. 9ThenH116 askedH7593 we those eldersH7868: thus we saidH560 to them, Who gave you orders to build this houseH1005 and to complete this wall? 10We askedH7593 their namesH8036 alsoH638, to inform thee, that we might write the namesH8036 of the menH1400 that were the chief of them. 11And thus they returnedH8421 us answer, sayingH560, We are the servantsH5649 of the 6GodH426 of the heavensH8065 and the earthH772, and build the houseH1005 that was builtH1124 these manyH7690 yearsH8140 ago; and a greatH7229 kingH4430 of IsraelH3479 builtH1124 and completed it. 12But after that our fathersH2 had provoked the 7GodH426 of the heavensH8065 to wrath, he gave them into the handH3028 of NebuchadnezzarH5020 kingH4430 of BabylonH895, the Chaldean, and he destroyed this houseH1005, and carried the peopleH5972 away unto BabylonH895. 13But in the first yearH8140 of CyrusH3567 kingH4430 of BabylonH895, kingH4430 CyrusH3567 gave orders to build this houseH1005 of 8GodH426. 14And the vesselsH3984 alsoH638 of goldH1722 and silverH3702 of the houseH1005 of 9GodH426, which NebuchadnezzarH5020 took out of the temple that was at JerusalemH3390 and brought into the temple of BabylonH895, those did kingH4430 CyrusH3567 take out of the temple of BabylonH895, and they were delivered to one SheshbazzarH8340 by nameH8036, whom he had appointed governorH6347. 15And he saidH560 to him, Take these vesselsH3984, go, carry them into the temple that is at JerusalemH3390, and let the houseH1005 of 10GodH426 be builtH1124 in its placeH870. 16ThenH116 cameH858 the same SheshbazzarH8340, [and] laid the foundation of the houseH1005 of 11GodH426 which is at JerusalemH3390; and since that time even until nowH3705 has it been in buildingH1124, and it is not completed. 17And nowH3705, if it seem good to the kingH4430, let searchH1240 be made in the king's treasure-house, which is there at BabylonH895, whether it be so, that orders were given by kingH4430 CyrusH3567 to build this houseH1005 of 12GodH426 at JerusalemH3390; and let the kingH4430 send his pleasure to us concerningH5922 this matter.
