Ezra 9
Revised Version 1895
1Now when theseH428 things were done, the princesH8269 drewH5066 nearH5066 unto meH413, sayingH559, The peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478, and the priestsH3548 and the LevitesH3881, have notH3808 separatedH914 themselvesH428 from the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776, doing accordingH413 to their abominationsH8441, evenH3808 of the CanaanitesH3669, the HittitesH2850, the PerizzitesH6522, the JebusitesH2983, the AmmonitesH5984, the MoabitesH4125, the EgyptiansH4713, and the AmoritesH567. 2For they have takenH5375 of their daughtersH1323 for themselvesH1992 and for their sonsH1121; soH1961 that the holyH6944 seedH2233 have mingledH6148 themselvesH1992 with the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776: yeaH3588, the handH3027 of the princesH8269 and rulersH8269 hath been chiefH8269 in this trespassH4604. 3And when I heardH8085 this thingH1697, I rent my garmentH899 and my mantleH4598, and plucked offH853 the hairH8181 of my headH7218 and of my beardH2206, and satH3427 downH3427 astonied. 4Then were assembledH622 unto meH413 everyH3605 one that trembled at the wordsH1697 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, becauseH5921 of the trespassH4604 of them of the captivity; and I satH3427 astonied untilH5704 the eveningH6153 oblation. 5And at the eveningH6153 oblation I aroseH6965 upH6965 from my humiliationH8589, evenH5921 with my garmentH899 and my mantleH4598 rent; and I fellH5921 uponH5921 my kneesH1290, and spreadH6566 outH5921 my handsH3709 unto the LORDH3068 my GodH430; 6and I saidH559, O my GodH430, I am ashamedH954 and blushH3637 to liftH7311 upH7311 my faceH6440 to thee, my GodH430: for our iniquitiesH5771 are increasedH7235 over our headH7218, and our guiltiness is grownH1431 upH7311 unto the heavensH8064. 7SinceH3117 the daysH3117 of our fathersH1 weH587 have been exceeding guiltyH5771 unto this dayH3117; and for our iniquitiesH5771 have weH587, our kingsH4428, and our priestsH3548, been deliveredH5414 intoH776 the handH3027 of the kingsH4428 of the landsH776, to the swordH2719, to captivityH7628, and to spoiling, and to confusion of faceH6440, as it is this dayH3117. 8And nowH6258 for a littleH4592 momentH7281 graceH8467 hath been shewed from the LORDH3068 our GodH430, to leaveH7604 usH5414 a remnantH7604 to escapeH6413, and to giveH5414 usH5414 a nail in his holyH6944 placeH4725, that our GodH430 may lighten our eyesH5869, and giveH5414 usH5414 a littleH4592 revivingH4241 in our bondageH5659. 9For weH587 are bondmen; yet our GodH430 hath notH3808 forsaken usH5414 in our bondageH5650, but hath extendedH5186 mercy unto usH5414 in the sightH6440 of the kingsH4428 of PersiaH6539, to giveH5414 usH5414 a revivingH4241, to setH5414 upH7311 the houseH1004 of our GodH430, and to repair the ruinsH2723 thereof, and to giveH5414 usH5414 a wallH1447 in JudahH3063 and in JerusalemH3389. 10And nowH6258, O our GodH430, whatH4100 shall weH3588 sayH559 afterH310 this? for weH3588 have forsaken thy commandmentsH4687, 11whichH834 thou hast commandedH6680 by thy servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, sayingH559, The landH776, unto whichH834 ye goH935 to possessH3423 it, is an uncleanH5079 landH776 throughH3027 the uncleannessH5079 of the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776, throughH3027 their abominationsH8441, whichH834 have filledH4390 it from one endH6310 to anotherH6310 with their filthiness. 12nowH6258 therefore giveH5414 notH3808 your daughtersH1323 unto their sonsH1121, neitherH3808 takeH5375 their daughtersH1323 unto your sonsH1121, norH3808 seekH1875 their peaceH7965 or their prosperityH7965 t for everH5769: that ye may be strongH2388, and eatH398 the goodH2896 of the landH776, and leaveH4616 it for an inheritanceH3423 to your childrenH1121 for everH5769. 13And afterH310 allH3605 that is comeH935 uponH5921 usH5414 for our evilH7451 deedsH4639, and for our greatH1419 guiltH5771, seeingH3588 that thou our GodH430 hast punished usH5414 lessH3588 thanH5921 our iniquitiesH5771 deserve, and hast givenH5414 usH5414 suchH2063 a remnantH6413, 14shall weH5704 againH7725 breakH6565 thy commandmentsH4687, and join in affinity with the peoplesH5971 that doH369 theseH428 abominationsH8441? wouldest notH3808 thou be angryH599 with usH7725 tillH5704 thou hadst consumedH3615 usH7725, soH3808 that there should be noH3808 remnantH7611, norH3808 anyH369 to escapeH6413? 15O LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, thou art righteousH6662; for weH3588 are leftH7604 a remnantH7604 that is escapedH6413, as it is this dayH3117: beholdH2005, weH3588 are beforeH6440 thee in our guiltiness; for noneH369 canH369 standH5975 beforeH6440 thee becauseH3588 of this.
