Ezra 10

1And while EzraH5830 prayedH6419, and made confession, weepingH1058 and fallingH5307 downH5307 before the houseH1004 of 1GodH430, there were gatheredH6908 to him out of IsraelH3478 a veryH3966 great congregation of menH376 and womenH802 and childrenH3206; for the peopleH5971 weptH1058 veryH3966 muchH7235. 2And Shechaniah the sonH1121 of JehielH3171, of the sonsH1121 of ElamH5867, answered and saidH559 to EzraH5830, We have actedH4603 unfaithfullyH4603 toward our 2GodH430, and have taken foreignH5237 wivesH802 of the peoplesH5971 of the landH776; yet nowH6258 there is hope for IsraelH3478 concerning this thing. 3And nowH6258 let us makeH6213 a covenantH1285 with our 3GodH430 to put away all the wivesH802, and such as are bornH3205 of them, according to the counselH6098 of [my] lordH113, and of those that tremble at the commandmentsH4687 of our 4GodH430; and let it be done according to the lawH8451. 4AriseH6965, for this matterH1697 is incumbent on thee, and we will be with thee: be of good courage, and do [it]. 5Then EzraH5830 aroseH6965, and madeH6213 the chiefsH8269 of the priestsH3548, of the LevitesH3881, and of all IsraelH3478, to swearH7650 that they would do according to this wordH1697. And they sworeH7650. 6And EzraH5830 aroseH6965 from before the houseH1004 of 5GodH430, and went into the chamber of JehohananH3076 the sonH1121 of EliashibH475; and when he came thither, he ateH398 no breadH3899 and drankH8354 no waterH4325; for he mournedH56 because of the unfaithfulnessH4604 of them that had been carriedH6965 away. 7And they made proclamationH6963 in JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 to all the children of the captivity, that they should gatherH6908 themselves togetherH6908 unto JerusalemH3389; 8and that whosoever would not comeH935 within threeH7969 daysH3117, according to the counselH6098 of the princesH8269 and the eldersH2205, all his substance should be confiscated, and himself separatedH914 from the congregation of those that had been carried away. 9Then were all the menH376 of JudahH3063 and BenjaminH1144 gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 at JerusalemH3389 within threeH7969 daysH3117. It was the ninthH8671 monthH2320, on the twentieth of the monthH2320; and all the peopleH5971 satH3427 in the openH7339 space of the houseH1004 of 6GodH430, trembling because of the matterH1697, and because of the pouring rainH1653. 10And EzraH5830 the priestH3548 stoodH6965 up and saidH559 to them, Ye have actedH4603 unfaithfullyH4603, and have taken foreignH5237 wivesH802, to increaseH3254 the trespass of IsraelH3478. 11And nowH6258 makeH5414 confession to Jehovah the 7GodH430 of your fathersH1, and do his pleasureH7522, and separateH914 yourselves from the peoplesH5971 of the landH776, and from the foreignH5237 wivesH802. 12And the whole congregation answered and saidH559 with a loud voiceH6963, Yes, it is for us to do according to thy wordsH1697. 13But the peopleH5971 are manyH7227, and it is a timeH6256 of pouring rainH1653, and it is not possible to standH5975 without: neither is this a workH4399 for oneH259 dayH3117 or twoH8147; for we are manyH7227 that have transgressedH6586 in this thingH1697. 14Let now our princesH8269, while this matterH1697 is goingH935 on, standH5975 for all the congregation, and let all those that have taken foreignH5237 wivesH802 in our citiesH5892 comeH935 at the appointedH5975 timesH6256, and with them the eldersH2205 of every cityH5892, and the judgesH8199 thereof, until the fierce angerH639 of our 8GodH430 be turnedH7725 from us. 15OnlyH389 JonathanH3129 the sonH1121 of AsahelH6214 and Jahzeiah the sonH1121 of TikvahH8616 stoodH5975 up against this; and MeshullamH4918 and ShabbethaiH7678 the LeviteH3881 helpedH5826 them. 16And the children of the captivity did soH3651.
