Daniel 5:5-28
In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's handH3028, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palaceH1965: and the kingH4430 sawH2370 the part of the handH3028 that wrote.
ThenH116 the king's countenance was changedH8133, and his thoughtsH7476 troubled him, and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote oneH1668 against another.
The kingH4430 cried aloud to bringH5954 in the magicians, the ChaldeansH3779, and the astrologers. The kingH4430 spoke and saidH560 to the wiseH2445 men of BabylonH895, Whosoever shall readH7123 this writing, and shew me the interpretationH6591 thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of goldH1722 about his neckH6676, and shall be the thirdH8523 rulerH7981 in the kingdomH4437.
ThenH116 came in all the king's wiseH2445 men, but they could not readH7123 the writing, nor makeH3046 knownH3046 to the kingH4430 the interpretationH6591.
ThenH116 was kingH4430 BelshazzarH1113 greatly troubled, and his countenance was changedH8133 in him, and his nobles were confounded.
— The queenH4433, by reason of the wordsH4406 of the kingH4430 and his nobles, came into the banquet-house. The queenH4433 spoke and saidH560, O kingH4430, liveH2418 for everH5957! let not thy thoughtsH7476 trouble thee, neither let thy countenance be changedH8133.
There is a manH1400 in thy kingdomH4437 in whom is the spiritH7308 of the holyH6922 1godsH426; and in the daysH3118 of thy fatherH2, light and understanding and wisdomH2452, like the wisdomH2452 of the 2godsH426 was foundH7912 in him; and the kingH4430 NebuchadnezzarH5020 thy fatherH2, [even] the kingH4430 thy fatherH2, made him master of the scribes, magiciansH2749, ChaldeansH3779, [and] astrologers;
forasmuch as an excellent spiritH7308, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreamsH2493, and shewing of hard sentences, and solving of problems, were foundH7912 in the same DanielH1841, whom the kingH4430 namedH8036 BelteshazzarH1096. NowH3705 let DanielH1841 be called, and he will shew the interpretationH6591.
ThenH116 was DanielH1841 broughtH858 in before the kingH4430. The kingH4430 spoke and saidH560 unto DanielH1841, Art thou that DanielH1841, of the children of the captivity of JudahH3061, whom the kingH4430 my fatherH2 broughtH858 out of JudahH3061?
And I have heardH8086 of thee, that the spiritH7308 of the 3godsH426 is in thee, and [that] light and understanding and excellent wisdomH2452 is foundH7912 in thee.
And nowH3705 the wiseH2445 men, the magicians, have been broughtH5954 in before me, that they should readH7123 this writing, and makeH3046 knownH3046 unto me the interpretationH6591 thereof; but they could not shew the interpretationH6591 of the thing.
But I have heardH8086 of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and solve problems. NowH3705 if thou canst readH7123 the writing, and makeH3046 knownH3046 to me the interpretationH6591 thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of goldH1722 about thy neckH6676, and shalt be the thirdH8531 rulerH7981 in the kingdomH4437.
ThenH116 DanielH1841 answered and saidH560 before the kingH4430, Let thy giftsH4978 be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet will I readH7123 the writing to the kingH4430, and makeH3046 knownH3046 to him the interpretationH6591.
O thou kingH4430, the MostH5943 HighH5943 4GodH426 gave NebuchadnezzarH5020 thy fatherH2 the kingdomH4437, and greatnessH7238, and glory, and majestyH1923;
and for the greatnessH7238 that he gave him, all peoplesH5972, nationsH524, and languages, trembled and fearedH1763 before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he exalted, and whom he would he humbled.
But when his heartH3825 was liftedH7313 up, and his spiritH7308 hardened unto presumption, he was deposed from the throneH3764 of his kingdomH4437, and they took his glory from him;
and he was driven from the sons of menH606, and his heartH3825 was madeH3046 like the beastsH2423, and his dwellingH4070 was with the wild asses; they fed him with grass like oxen, and his bodyH1655 was bathed with the dewH2920 of heavenH8065; till he knewH3046 that the MostH5943 HighH5943 5GodH426 ruleth over the kingdomH4437 of menH606, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
And thou, BelshazzarH1113, his sonH1247, hast not humbled thy heartH3825, although thou knewest all this;
but hast liftedH7313 up thyself against the LordH4756 of the heavensH8065; and they have broughtH858 the vesselsH3984 of his houseH1005 before thee, and thou and thy nobles, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wineH2562 in them; and thou hast praised the 6godsH426 of silverH3702 and goldH1722, of brass, ironH6523, wood, and stoneH69, which seeH2370 not, nor hearH8086, nor knowH3046; and the 7GodH426 in whose handH3028 thy breath is, and whose are all thy waysH735, hast thou not glorified:
thenH116 from before him was sent the part of the handH3028, and this writing hath been written.
And this is the writing that is written: MENEH4484, MENEH4484, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
This is the interpretationH6591 of the thing: MENEH4484, 8GodH426 hath numbered thy kingdomH4437, and finished it;
TEKEL, Thou art weighed in the balances, and art foundH7912 wanting;
PERES, Thy kingdomH4437 is divided, and given to the MedesH4076 and PersiansH6540.
