2 Chronicles 33
Manasseh Reigns in Judah
(2 Kings 21:1–9)
1ManassehH4519 was twelveH8147H6240 years oldH1121H8141 when he became kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 fifty-fiveH2572H2568 yearsH8141. 2And he didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 by following the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had driven outH3423 beforeH6440 the IsraelitesH1121H3478. 3For he rebuiltH7725H1129 the high placesH1116 thatH834 his fatherH1 HezekiahH2396 had torn downH5422, and he raised upH6965 altarsH4196 for the BaalsH1168 and madeH6213 Asherah polesH842. And he worshipedH7812 and servedH5647 allH3605 the hostH6635 of heavenH8064.
4Manasseh also builtH1129 altarsH4196 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, of whichH834 the LORDH3068 had saidH559, “My NameH8034 will remainH1961 in JerusalemH3389 foreverH5769.” 5In bothH8147 courtyardsH2691 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, he builtH1129 altarsH4196 to allH3605 the hostH6635 of heavenH8064. 6HeH1931 sacrificedH5674 his sonsH1121 in the fireH7841 in the ValleyH1516 of Ben-hinnomH1121H2011. He practiced sorceryH6049, divinationH5172, and witchcraftH3784, and consultedH6213 mediumsH178 and spiritistsH3049. He didH6213 greatH7235 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, provoking Him to angerH3707.
7Manasseh even took the carvedH6459 imageH5566 he had madeH6213 and set it upH7760 in the houseH1004 of GodH430, of whichH834 GodH430 had saidH559 toH413 DavidH1732H413 and his sonH1121 SolomonH8010, “In thisH2088 templeH1004 and in JerusalemH3389, whichH834 I have chosenH977 out of allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, I will establishH7760 My NameH8034 foreverH5865. 8I will neverH3808 againH3254 cause the feetH7272 of the IsraelitesH3478 to leaveH5493 the landH127 thatH834 I assignedH5975 to your fathersH1, ifH518 onlyH7535 they are carefulH8104 to doH6213 allH3605 thatH834 I have commanded themH6680 throughH3027 MosesH4872—allH3605 the lawsH8451, statutesH2706, and judgmentsH4941.”
9So ManassehH4519 led the peopleH3427 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 astrayH8582, so that they didH6213 greater evilH7451 thanH4480 the nationsH1471 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had destroyedH8045 beforeH6440 the IsraelitesH1121H3478.
Manasseh’s Repentance and Restoration
(2 Kings 21:10–18)
10And the LORDH3068 spokeH1696 toH413 ManassehH4519H413 and his peopleH5971, but they did notH3808 listenH7181. 11SoH3068 the LORD broughtH935 against themH5921 the militaryH6635 commandersH8269 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, who capturedH3920 ManassehH4519, put a hook in his noseH2336, bound himH631 with bronze shacklesH5178, and took himH1980 to BabylonH894. 12And in his distressH6887, Manasseh soughtH2470 the favorH6440 of the LORDH3068 his GodH430 and earnestlyH3966 humbled himselfH3665 beforeH6440 the GodH430 of his fathersH1. 13And when he prayedH6419 to HimH413, the LORD received his pleaH6279 and heardH8085 his petitionH8467. So He brought him backH7725 to JerusalemH3389 and to his kingdomH4438. Then ManassehH4519 knewH3045 thatH3588 the LORDH3068H1931 is GodH430.
14AfterH310 thisH3651, Manasseh rebuiltH1129 the outerH2435 wallH2346 of the CityH5892 of DavidH1732 from westH4628 of GihonH1521 in the valleyH5158 to the entranceH935 of the FishH1709 GateH8179, and he brought it aroundH5437 the hill of OphelH6077 and heightened itH1361 considerablyH3966. He also stationedH7760 militaryH2428 commandersH8269 in allH3605 the fortifiedH1219 citiesH5892 of JudahH3063.
15He removedH5493 the foreignH5236 godsH430 and the idolH5566 from the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, along with allH3605 the altarsH4196 he had builtH1129 on the templeH1004 mountH20222 and in JerusalemH3389, and he dumped themH7993 outsideH2351 the cityH5892. 16Then he restoredH3559 the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068 and sacrificedH2076 peace offeringsH8002 and thankH8426 offeringsH2077 on itH5921, and he toldH559 JudahH3063 to serveH5647 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 17NeverthelessH61, the peopleH5971 stillH5750 sacrificedH2076 at the high placesH1116, but onlyH7535 to the LORDH3068 their GodH430.
18As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ManassehH4519, along with his prayerH8605 toH413 his GodH430 and the wordsH1697 of the seersH2374 who spokeH1696 to himH413 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, they are indeedH2005 written inH5921 the ChroniclesH1697 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478.3 19His prayerH8605 and how God received his pleaH6279, as well as allH3605 his sinH2403 and unfaithfulnessH4604, and the sitesH4725 whereH834 he builtH1129 high placesH1116 and set upH5975 Asherah polesH842 and idolsH6456 beforeH6440 he humbled himselfH3665, they are indeedH2005 writtenH3789 inH5921 the RecordsH1697 of the SeersH2335.4 20And ManassehH4519 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 at his palaceH1004. And his sonH1121 AmonH526 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.
Amon Reigns in Judah
(2 Kings 21:19–26)
21AmonH526 was twenty-twoH6242H8147 years oldH1121H8141 when he became kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 twoH8147 yearsH8141. 22And he didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, asH834 his fatherH1 ManassehH4519 had doneH6213.
AmonH526 servedH5647 and sacrificedH2076 to allH3605 the idolsH6456 thatH834 his fatherH1 ManassehH4519 had madeH6213, 23but he did notH3808 humble himselfH3665 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 as his fatherH1 ManassehH4519 had done; insteadH3588H1931, AmonH526 increasedH7235 his guiltH819.
24Then the servantsH5650 of Amon conspiredH7194 against himH5921 and killed himH4191 in his palaceH1004. 25But the peopleH5971 of the landH776 killedH5221 allH3605 those who had conspiredH7194 againstH5921 KingH4428 AmonH526, and they made his sonH1121 JosiahH2977 kingH4427H5971H776 in his placeH8478.
