2 Chronicles 2

(1 Kings 5:1–6)

1Now SolomonH8010 purposedH559 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for the NameH8034 of the LORDH3068 and a royalH4438 palace for himselfH1004. 2So he conscriptedH5608H8010 70,000H7657H505H376 portersH5449, 80,000H8084H505H376 stonecuttersH2672 in the mountainsH2022, and 3,600H7969H505H8337H3967 supervisorsH5329H5921.

3Then SolomonH8010 sentH7971 word toH413 HiramH23611 kingH4428 of TyreH6865H559:

“Do for me asH834 you didH6213 forH5973 my fatherH1 DavidH1732 when you sentH7971 him cedarsH730 to buildH1129 himself a houseH1004 to liveH3427 in. 4BeholdH2009, I am about to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for the NameH8034 of the LORDH3068 my GodH430 to dedicateH6942 to Him for burningH6999 fragrantH5561 incenseH7004 before HimH6440, for displaying the showbreadH4635 continuouslyH8548, and for making burnt offeringsH5930 every morningH1242 and eveningH6153 as well as on the SabbathsH7676, New MoonsH2320, and appointed feastsH4150 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430. ThisH2063 is ordained forH5921 Israel foreverH3478H5769.

5The houseH1004 thatH834 IH589 am buildingH1129 will be greatH1419, forH3588 our GodH430 is greaterH1419 than allH3605 godsH430. 6But whoH4310 is ableH6113H3581 to buildH1129 a houseH1004 for Him, sinceH3588 the heavensH8064, even the highest heavensH8064, cannotH3808 contain HimH3557? Who thenH4310 am IH589, thatH834 I should buildH1129 a houseH1004 for Him, exceptH3588H518 as a place to burn sacrificesH6999 before HimH6440?

7SendH7971 me, thereforeH6258, a craftsmanH376H2450 skilledH3045 in engravingH6605H6603 to workH6213 with goldH2091 and silverH3701, with bronzeH5178 and ironH1270, and with purpleH710, crimsonH3758, and blue yarnH8504. He will work withH5973 my craftsmenH2450 in JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, whomH834 my fatherH1 DavidH1732 providedH3559.

8Send meH7971 also cedarH730, cypressH1265,2 and algumH4183 logsH6086 from LebanonH3844, forH3588 IH589 knowH3045 thatH834 your servantsH5650 have skillH3045 to cutH3772 timberH6086 there. And indeedH2009, my servantsH5650 will work withH5973 yoursH5650 9to prepareH3559 for me timberH6086 in abundanceH7230, becauseH3588 the templeH1004 IH589 am buildingH1129 will be greatH1419 and wonderfulH6381. 10I will payH5414 your servantsH5650, the woodcuttersH2404H3772H6086, 20,000H6242H505 corsH3734 of groundH4347 wheatH2406,4 20,000H6242H505 corsH3734 of barleyH8184,5 20,000H6242H505 bathsH1324 of wineH3196,6 and 20,000H6242H505 bathsH1324 of olive oilH8081.7”

Hiram’s Reply to Solomon

(1 Kings 5:7–12)

11ThenH559 HiramH2361 kingH4428 of TyreH6865 wrote a letterH3791 in replyH7971 toH413 SolomonH8010:

“Because the LORDH3068 lovesH160 His peopleH5971, He has set youH5414 over themH5921 as kingH4428.”

12And HiramH2361 addedH559:

“BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, whoH834 madeH6213 the heavensH8064 and the earthH776! HeH834 has givenH5414 KingH4428 DavidH1732 a wiseH2450H3045 sonH1121 with insightH7922 and understandingH998, whoH834 will buildH1129 a templeH1004 for the LORDH3068 and a royalH4438 palace for himselfH1004.

13So now IH6258 am sending youH7971 Huram-abiH2361H1, a skillfulH2450 manH376 endowedH3045 with creativityH998.8 14He is the sonH1121 of a womanH802 fromH4480 the daughtersH1323 of DanH1835, and his fatherH1 is a manH376 of TyreH6876. He is skilledH3045 in workH6213 with goldH2091 and silverH3701, bronzeH5178 and ironH1270, stoneH68 and woodH6086, purpleH713, blueH8504, and crimson yarnH3758, and fine linenH948. He is experienced in every kindH3605 of engravingH6605H6603 and can executeH2803 anyH3605 designH4284 thatH834 is givenH5414 him. He will work withH5973 your craftsmenH2450 and with thoseH2450 of my lordH113, your fatherH1 DavidH1732.

15NowH6258 let my lordH113 sendH7971 to his servantsH5650 the wheatH2406, barleyH8184, olive oilH8081, and wineH3196 he promisedH559. 16WeH587 will cutH3772 logsH6086 fromH4480 LebanonH3844, as manyH3605 as you needH6878, and we will float themH935 to you as raftsH7513 byH5921 seaH3220 down to JoppaH3305. Then youH859 can take them upH5927 to JerusalemH3389.”

17SolomonH8010 numberedH5608 allH3605 the foreignH1616 menH376 in the landH776 of IsraelH3478 followingH310 the censusH5610 his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had conducted, and there were found to beH4672 153,600H3967H2572H505H7969H8337 in all. 18Solomon madeH6213 70,000 of themH7657H505 portersH5449, 80,000H8084H505 stonecuttersH2672 in the mountainsH2022, and 3,600H7969H505H8337H3967 supervisorsH5329H5647H5971.
