2 Chronicles 5

(1 Kings 8:1–11)

1So allH3605 the workH4399 thatH834 SolomonH8010 had performedH6213 for the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 was completedH7999.

Then SolomonH8010 brought in the itemsH935 his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had dedicatedH6944—the silverH3701, the goldH2091, and allH3605 the furnishingsH3627—and he placed themH5414 in the treasuriesH214 of the houseH1004 of GodH430.

2At that timeH227 SolomonH8010 assembledH6950 inH413 JerusalemH3389 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478—allH3605 the tribalH4294 headsH7218 and family leadersH1H5387 of the IsraelitesH1121H3478—to bring upH5927 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 from ZionH6726, the CityH5892 of DavidH1732. 3So allH3605 the menH376 of IsraelH3478 came togetherH6950 to the kingH4428 at the feastH2282 in the seventhH7637 monthH2320.1

4When allH3605 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 had arrivedH935, the LevitesH3881 took upH5375 the arkH727, 5and they brought upH5927 the arkH727 andH853 the TentH168 of MeetingH4150 withH853 allH3605 its sacredH6944 furnishingsH3627. The LeviticalH3881 priestsH3548 carried them upH5927.

6There, beforeH6440 the arkH727, KingH4428 SolomonH8010 and the wholeH3605 congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478 who had assembledH3259 with himH5921 sacrificedH2076 so manyH7230 sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 thatH834 they could notH3808 be countedH5608H3808 or numberedH4487.

7Then the priestsH3548 broughtH935 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 toH413 its placeH4725 inH413 the inner sanctuaryH1687 of the templeH1004, the Most Holy PlaceH6944H413,2 beneathH8478 the wingsH3671 of the cherubimH3742. 8ForH1961 the cherubimH3742 spreadH6566 their wingsH3671 overH5921 the placeH4725 of the arkH727 and overshadowedH3680H4605 the arkH727 andH5921 its polesH905.

9The polesH905 ofH4480 the arkH727 extended far enoughH748 that theirH905 endsH7218 were visibleH7200 fromH5921 in frontH6440 of the inner sanctuaryH1687,3 but notH3808 from outsideH2351 the Holy Place;4 and they areH1961 thereH8033 toH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117.

10There was nothingH369 in the arkH727 exceptH7535 the twoH8147 tabletsH3871 thatH834 MosesH4872 had placed in itH5414 at HorebH2722,5 whereH834 the LORDH3068 had made a covenantH3772 withH5973 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 after they had come outH3318 of EgyptH4714.

11NowH3588 allH3605 the priestsH3548 who were presentH4672 had consecrated themselvesH6942 regardless ofH369H8104 their divisionsH4256. And whenH1961 the priestsH3548 came outH3318 ofH4480 the Holy PlaceH6944, 12allH3605 the LeviticalH3881 singersH7891—AsaphH623, HemanH1968, JeduthunH3038, and their sonsH1121 and relativesH251—stoodH5975 on the east sideH4217 of the altarH4196, dressedH3847 in fine linenH948 and playing cymbalsH4700, harpsH5035, and lyresH3658, accompanied byH5973 120H3967H6242 priestsH3548 soundingH2690 trumpetsH2689. 13The trumpetersH2690 and singersH7891H8085 joined togetherH259 to praiseH1984 and thankH3034 the LORDH3068 with oneH259 voiceH6963. They lifted upH7311 their voicesH6963, accompanied by trumpetsH2689, cymbalsH4700, and musicalH7892 instrumentsH3627, in praiseH1984 to the LORDH3068:

“ForH3588 He is goodH2896H3588;His loving devotion endures foreverH2617H5769.”

And the templeH1004, the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, was filledH4390 with a cloudH6051 14so that the priestsH3548 couldH3808 notH3201 stand thereH5975 to ministerH8334 becauseH6440 of the cloudH6051. ForH3588 the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068 filledH4390 the houseH1004 of GodH430.
