Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah in Judah
11ManassehH4519 was twelveH8147H6240 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 for fifty-fiveH2572 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 22He didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 according to the abominationsH8441 of the nationsH1471 whomH834 the LordH3068 dispossessedH3423 beforeH4480H6440 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 3For 3he rebuiltH7725H1129 the highH1116 placesH1116 whichH834 his fatherH1 HezekiahH2396 had tornH5422 downH5422; 4he also setH6965 upH6965 altarsH4196 for the BaalsH1168 and madeH6213 5AsherimH842, and he worshipedH2331 allH3605 the heavenlyH8064 6lightsH6635 and servedH5647 them. 47He builtH1129 altarsH4196 in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 of whichH834 the LordH3068 had saidH559, “My nameH8034 shall be 8in JerusalemH3389 foreverH5769.” 5He builtH1129 altarsH4196 for allH3605 the heavenlyH8064 9lightsH6635 in 10the twoH8147 courtyardsH2691 of the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 611He also made his sonsH1121 passH5674 through the fireH784 in the ValleyH1516 of Ben-hinnomH1121H2011; and he practicedH6049 witchcraftH6049, usedH5172 divinationH5172, practicedH3784 sorceryH3784, and 12dealtH6213 with mediumsH178 and spiritistsH3049. He didH6213 muchH7235 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, provokingH3707 Him to angerH3707. 7Then he putH7760 13the carvedH6459 imageH6459 of the idolH5566 whichH834 he had madeH6213 in the houseH1004 of GodH430, of whichH834 GodH430 had saidH559 to DavidH1732 and his sonH1121 SolomonH8010, “14In thisH2088 houseH1004 and in JerusalemH3389, whichH834 I have chosenH977 from allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, I will putH7760 My nameH8034 foreverH5769; 8and I will not removeH5493 the footH7272 of IsraelH3478 againH3254 from the landH127 15whichH834 I have appointedH5975 for your fathersH1, ifH518 onlyH7534 they will takeH8104 careH8104 to doH6213 everythingH3605 that I have commandedH6680 them according to allH3605 the LawH8451, the statutesH2706, and the ordinancesH4941 given throughH3027 MosesH4872.” 9So ManassehH4519 encouragedH8582 JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 to doH6213 moreH4480 evilH7451 thanH4480 the nationsH1471 whomH834 the LordH3068 destroyedH8045 beforeH4480H6440 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478.
Manasseh’s Idolatry Rebuked
10So the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to ManassehH4519 and his peopleH5971, but 16they paidH7181 noH3808 attentionH7181. 1117Therefore the LordH3068 broughtH935 the commandersH8269 of the armyH6635 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 againstH5921 them, and they capturedH3920 ManassehH4519 with hooksH2336, 18boundH631 him with bronzeH5178 chains, and ledH1980 him to BabylonH894. 12When 19he was in distressH6887, he appeasedH2470 the LordH3068 his GodH430 and 20humbledH3665 himself greatlyH3966 beforeH4480H6440 the GodH430 of his fathersH1. 13When he prayedH6419 to Him, 21He was movedH6279 by him and heardH8085 his pleadingH8467, and broughtH7725 him backH7725 to JerusalemH3389 to his kingdomH4438. Then ManassehH4519 22knewH3045 that the LordH3068 alone is GodH430.
14Now afterH310 thisH3651 he builtH1129 the outerH2435 wallH2346 of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732 on the westH4628 sideH4628 of 23GihonH1521, in the valleyH5158, up to the entranceH935 of the 24FishH1709 GateH8179; and he encircledH5437 the 25OphelH6077 with it and madeH1361 it veryH3966 highH1361. Then he putH7760 armyH2428 commandersH8269 in allH3605 the fortifiedH1219 citiesH5892 in JudahH3063. 15He also 26removedH5493 the foreignH5236 godsH430 and the idolH5566 from the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, as well as allH3605 the altarsH4196 whichH834 he had builtH1129 on the mountainH2022 of the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 and in JerusalemH3389, and he threwH7993 them outsideH2351 the cityH5892. 16He setH3559 up the altarH4196 of the LordH3068 and sacrificedH2076 27peaceH8002 offeringsH8002 and thanksgivingH8426 offeringsH8426 on it; and he orderedH559 JudahH3063 to serveH5647 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 17HoweverH61, 28the peopleH5971 stillH5750 sacrificedH2076 on the highH1116 placesH1116, although onlyH7534 to the LordH3068 their GodH430.
18Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of ManassehH4519 and 29his prayerH8605 to his GodH430, and the wordsH1697 of 30the seersH2374 who spokeH1696 to him in the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, beholdH2009, they are amongH5921 the recordsH1697 of the kingsH4428 of 31IsraelH3478. 19His prayerH8605 also and 32how God was movedH6279 by him, and allH3605 his sinH2403, his unfaithfulnessH4604, and 33the sitesH4725 on whichH834 he builtH1129 highH1116 placesH1116 and erectedH5975 the 34AsherimH842 and the carvedH6456 imagesH6456, beforeH6440 he humbledH3665 himself, beholdH2009, they are writtenH3789 in the recordsH1697 of 35HozaiH2335. 20So ManassehH4519 36layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in his own houseH1004. And his sonH1121 AmonH526 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.
Amon Becomes King in Judah
2137AmonH526 was twenty-twoH6242H8147 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 for twoH8147 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 22He didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, justH3512 asH3512 his fatherH1 ManassehH4519 38had doneH6213, and AmonH526 sacrificedH2076 to allH3605 39the carvedH6456 imagesH6456 whichH834 his fatherH1 ManassehH4519 had madeH6213, and he servedH5647 them. 23Furthermore, he did not humbleH3665 himself beforeH4480H6440 the LordH3068 40as his fatherH1 ManassehH4519 had 41doneH3665, but AmonH526 multipliedH7235 his guiltH819. 24Finally, 42his servantsH5650 conspiredH7194 againstH5921 him and putH4191 him toH4191 deathH4191 in his own houseH1004. 25But the peopleH5971 of the landH776 43killedH5221 allH3605 the conspiratorsH7194 againstH5921 KingH4428 AmonH526, and the peopleH5971 of the landH776 madeH4427 his sonH1121 JosiahH2977 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.
