2 Chronicles 8

(1 Kings 9:10–28)

1NowH1961 at the endH7093 of the twentyH6242 yearsH8141 during whichH834 SolomonH8010 had builtH1129 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 andH853 his own palaceH1004, 2SolomonH8010 rebuiltH1129 the citiesH5892 HiramH23611 had givenH5414 himH8010 and settledH3427 IsraelitesH1121H3478 thereH8033.

3Then SolomonH8010 wentH1980 to Hamath-zobahH2578 and capturedH2388 itH5921. 4He builtH1129 TadmorH8412 in the wildernessH4057, in additionH853 to allH3605 the storeH4543 citiesH5892 thatH834 he had builtH1129 in HamathH2574. 5He rebuiltH1129 UpperH5945 and LowerH8481 Beth-horonH1032 as fortifiedH4692 citiesH5892 with wallsH2346, gatesH1817, and barsH1280, 6as well asH853 BaalathH1191, allH3605 the storeH4543 citiesH5892 thatH834 belonged toH1961 SolomonH8010, andH853 allH3605 the citiesH5892 for his chariotsH7393 andH853 horsesH65712—whateverH3605H2837 he desiredH2836 to buildH1129 in JerusalemH3389, LebanonH3844, and throughoutH3605 the landH776 of his dominionH4475.

7As for allH3605 the peopleH5971 who remainedH3498 ofH4480 the HittitesH2850, AmoritesH567, PerizzitesH6522, HivitesH2340, and JebusitesH2983 (these peopleH834 were notH3808 IsraelitesH3478H1992)— 8their descendantsH1121 whoH834 remainedH3498 in the landH776, those whomH834 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 had notH3808 destroyedH3615—SolomonH8010 conscripted these peopleH5927 to be forced laborersH4522, as they are toH5704 thisH3117 dayH2088.

9ButH4480 SolomonH8010 did notH3808 consignH5414 any of the IsraelitesH1121H3478 to slaveH5650 laborH4399, becauseH3588 theyH1992 were his menH582 of warH4421, the leaders ofH8269 his captainsH7991, and the commandersH8269 of his chariotsH7393 and cavalryH6571. 10They were also the chiefH8269 officersH5333 for KingH4428 SolomonH8010: 250H2572H3967 supervisorsH7287H5971.

SolomonH8010 broughtH5927 the daughterH1323 of PharaohH6547 up from the CityH5892 of DavidH1732 to the palaceH1004 he had builtH1129 for her. ForH3588 he saidH559, “My wifeH802 must notH3808 liveH3427 in the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, becauseH3588 the placesH1992 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 has enteredH935 are holyH6944.”

12At that timeH227 SolomonH8010 offeredH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 to the LORDH3068 onH5921 the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068 he had builtH1129 in frontH6440 of the porticoH197. 13He observed the dailyH3117 requirementH1697 for offeringsH5927 according to the commandmentH4687 of MosesH4872 for SabbathsH7676, New MoonsH2320, and the threeH7969H6471 annualH8141 appointed feastsH4150—the FeastH2282 of Unleavened BreadH4682,3 the FeastH2282 of WeeksH7620,4 and the FeastH2282 of TabernaclesH5521.5

14In keeping with the ordinancesH4941 of his fatherH1 DavidH1732, Solomon appointedH5975 the divisionsH4256 of the priestsH3548 overH5921 their serviceH5656, and the LevitesH3881 forH5921 their dutiesH4931 to offer praiseH1984 and to ministerH8334 beforeH5048 the priestsH3548 according to the dailyH3117 requirementH1697. He also appointed gatekeepersH7778 by their divisionsH4256 at each gateH8179, forH3588 thisH3651 had been the commandH4687 of DavidH1732, the manH376 of GodH430. 15They did notH3808 turn asideH5493 from the king’sH4428 commandH4687 regardingH5921 the priestsH3548 or the LevitesH3881 in anyH3605 matterH1697, including that of the treasuriesH214.

16Thus allH3605 the workH4399 of SolomonH8010 was carried outH3559, fromH5704 the dayH3117 the foundation was laidH4143 for the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 untilH5704 it was finishedH3615. So the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 was completedH8003.

17ThenH227 SolomonH8010 wentH1980 to Ezion-geberH6100 and toH413 ElothH3596 onH5921 the coastH8193H3220H776 of EdomH123.7 18So HiramH2361 sentH7971 him shipsH591 captained byH3027 his servantsH5650, along with crewsH5650 of experienced sailorsH3045H3220. They wentH935 withH5973 Solomon’sH8010 servantsH5650 to OphirH211 and acquiredH3947 from thereH8033 450H702H3967H2572 talentsH3603 of goldH2091,8 which they deliveredH935 toH413 KingH4428 SolomonH8010.
