Joshua 17

American Standard Version

1AndthiswasH1961 the lotH1486 for the tribeH4294 of ManassehH4519; for he wasH1961 the first-born of JosephH3130. As for Machir the first-born of ManassehH4519, the fatherH1 of GileadH1568, because he wasH1961 a manH376 of warH4421, therefore he had GileadH1568 and BashanH1316. 2So the lot wasH1961 for the rest of the children of ManassehH4519 according to their familiesH4940: for the children of AbiezerH44, and for the children of HelekH2507, and for the children of AsrielH844, and for the children of ShechemH7928, and for the children of HepherH2660, and for the children of ShemidaH8061: these wereH1961 the maleH2145 children of ManassehH4519 the sonH1121 of JosephH3130 according to their familiesH4940. 3But ZelophehadH6765, the sonH1121 of HepherH2660, the sonH1121 of GileadH1568, the sonH1121 of Machir, the sonH1121 of ManassehH4519, had no sonsH1121, but daughtersH1323: and these are the namesH8034 of his daughtersH1323: MahlahH4244, and NoahH5270, HoglahH2295, MilcahH4435, and TirzahH8656. 4And they came near before EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and before JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, and before the princesH5387, sayingH559, Jehovah commandedH6680 MosesH4872 to giveH5414 us an inheritanceH5159 among our brethren: therefore according to the commandment of Jehovah he gaveH5414 them an inheritanceH5159 among the brethren of their fatherH1. 5And there fellH5307 tenH6235 parts to ManassehH4519, besides the landH776 of GileadH1568 and BashanH1316, which is beyond the JordanH3383; 6because the daughtersH1323 of ManassehH4519 had an inheritanceH5159 among his sonsH1121. And the landH776 of GileadH1568 belongedH1961 unto the rest of the sonsH1121 of ManassehH4519.

7And the borderH1366 of ManassehH4519 wasH1961 from AsherH836 to Michmethath, which is before ShechemH7927; and the borderH1366 wentH1980 along to the rightH3225 handH3225, unto the inhabitantsH3427 of En-tappuah. 8The landH776 of TappuahH8599 belongedH1961 to ManassehH4519; but TappuahH8599 on the borderH1366 of ManassehH4519 belongedH1961 to the children of EphraimH669. 9And the borderH1366 wentH3381 downH3381 unto the brook of KanahH7071, southward of the brook: these citiesH5892 belongedH1961 to EphraimH669 among the citiesH5892 of ManassehH4519: and the borderH1366 of ManassehH4519 wasH1961 on the northH6828 side of the brook, and the goings out thereof wereH1961 at the seaH3220: 10southward it wasH1961 Ephraim’s, and northward it wasH1961 Manasseh’s, and the seaH3220 wasH1961 his borderH1366; and they reached to AsherH836 on the northH6828, and to IssacharH3485 on the eastH4217. 11And ManassehH4519 had in IssacharH3485 and in AsherH836 Beth-sheanH1052 and its towns, and IbleamH2991 and its towns, and the inhabitantsH3427 of DorH1756 and its towns, and the inhabitantsH3427 of En-dorH5874 and its towns, and the inhabitantsH3427 of TaanachH8590 and its towns, and the inhabitantsH3427 of MegiddoH4023 and its towns, even the threeH7969 heights. 12Yet the children of ManassehH4519 could not drive out the inhabitantsH3427 of those citiesH5892; but the CanaanitesH3669 would dwellH3427 in that landH776. 13And it came to pass, when the children of IsraelH3478 wereH1961 waxed strongH2388, that they putH5414 the CanaanitesH3669 to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.

14And the children of JosephH3130 spake unto JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, WhyH4069 hast thou givenH5414 me but oneH259 lotH1486 and oneH259 part for an inheritanceH5159, seeing I am a greatH7227 peopleH5971, forasmuch as hitherto Jehovah hath blessedH1288 me? 15And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto them, If thou be a greatH7227 peopleH5971, get thee up to the forestH3293, and cut down for thyself there in the landH776 of the Perizzites and of the RephaimH7497; since the hill-country of EphraimH669 is tooH7227 narrow for thee. 16And the children of JosephH3130 saidH559, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the CanaanitesH3669 that dwellH3427 in the landH776 of the valleyH6010 have chariotsH7393 of ironH1270, both they who are in Beth-sheanH1052 and its towns, and they who are in the valleyH6010 of JezreelH3157. 17And JoshuaH3091 spake unto the houseH1004 of JosephH3130, even to EphraimH669 and to ManassehH4519, sayingH559, Thou art a greatH1419 peopleH5971, and hast greatH1419 powerH3581; thou shalt not have oneH259 lotH1486 only: 18but the hill-country shall beH1961 thine; for though it is a forestH3293, thou shalt cut it down, and the goings out thereof shall beH1961 thine; for thou shalt drive out the CanaanitesH3669, though they have chariotsH7393 of ironH1270, and though they are strongH2389.
