Territory of Manasseh
1Now this was the lotH1486 for the tribeH4294 of 1ManassehH4519, for he was the firstbornH1060 of JosephH3130. To MachirH4353 the firstbornH1060 of ManassehH4519, the fatherH1 of GileadH1568, 2were allottedH1961 GileadH1568 and BashanH1316, becauseH3588 he was a manH376 of warH4421. 2So the lot was made for the restH3498 of the sonsH1121 of ManassehH4519 according to their familiesH4940: for the sonsH1121 of AbiezerH44 and for the sonsH1121 of HelekH2507 and for the sonsH1121 of AsrielH844 and for the sonsH1121 of ShechemH7928 and for the sonsH1121 of HepherH2660 and for the sonsH1121 of ShemidaH8061; theseH428 were the maleH2145 3descendantsH1121 of ManassehH4519 the sonH1121 of JosephH3130 according to their familiesH4940.
3However, 4ZelophehadH6765, the sonH1121 of HepherH2660, the sonH1121 of GileadH1568, the sonH1121 of MachirH4353, the sonH1121 of ManassehH4519, hadH1961 noH3808 sonsH1121, onlyH3588H518 daughtersH1323; and theseH428 are the namesH8034 of his daughtersH1323: MahlahH4244 and NoahH5270, HoglahH2295, MilcahH4435 and TirzahH8656. 4They cameH7126 nearH7126 beforeH6440 EleazarH499 the priestH3548 and beforeH6440 JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126 and beforeH6440 the leadersH5387, sayingH559, “The LordH3068 commandedH6680 MosesH4872 to giveH5414 us an inheritanceH5159 amongH8432 our brothersH251.” So 5accordingH413 to the 6commandH6310 of the LordH3068 he gaveH5414 them an inheritanceH5159 amongH8432 their father’sH1 brothersH251. 5Thus there fellH5307 tenH6235 portionsH2256 to ManassehH4519, besidesH905H4480 the landH776 of GileadH1568 and BashanH1316, whichH834 is beyondH4480H5676 the JordanH3383, 6becauseH3588 the daughtersH1323 of ManassehH4519 receivedH5157 an inheritanceH5159 amongH8432 his sonsH1121. And the 7landH776 of GileadH1568 belongedH1961 to the restH3498 of the sonsH1121 of ManassehH4519.
7The borderH1366 of ManassehH4519 8ranH1961 from AsherH836 to MichmethathH4366 whichH834 was eastH5921H6440 of ShechemH7927; then the borderH1366 wentH1980 9southwardH3225 to the inhabitantsH3427 of En-tappuahH5887. 8The landH776 of TappuahH8599 belongedH1961 to ManassehH4519, but 10TappuahH8599 on the borderH1366 of ManassehH4519 belonged to the sonsH1121 of EphraimH669. 9The 11borderH1366 wentH3381 downH3381 to the 12brookH5158 of KanahH7071, southwardH5045 of the 13brookH5158 (theseH428 citiesH5892 belonged to EphraimH669 amongH8432 the citiesH5892 of ManassehH4519), and the borderH1366 of ManassehH4519 was on the northH6828 sideH6828 of the 14brookH5158 and 15it endedH1961H8444 at the seaH3220. 10The southH5045 sideH5045 belonged to EphraimH669 and the northH6828 sideH6828 to ManassehH4519, and the seaH3220 was 16their borderH1366; and they reachedH6293 to AsherH836 on the northH6828 and to IssacharH3485 on the eastH4217. 11In IssacharH3485 and in AsherH836, 17ManassehH4519 hadH1961 Beth-sheanH1052 and its townsH1323 and IbleamH2991 and its townsH1323, and the inhabitantsH3427 of DorH1756 and its townsH1323, and the inhabitantsH3427 of En-dorH5874 and its townsH1323, and the inhabitantsH3427 of TaanachH8590 and its townsH1323, and the inhabitantsH3427 of MegiddoH4023 and its townsH1323, the thirdH7969 is 18NaphethH5316. 1219But the sonsH1121 of ManassehH4519 couldH3201 not takeH3423 possessionH3423 of theseH428 citiesH5892, because the CanaanitesH3669 persistedH2974 in livingH3427 in that landH776. 13It cameH1961 about whenH3588 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 becameH2388 strongH2388, 20they putH5414 the CanaanitesH3669 to forcedH4522 laborH4522, but they did not 21driveH3423 them out completelyH3423.
14Then the 22sonsH1121 of JosephH3130 spokeH1696 to JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, “WhyH4069 have you givenH5414 me only oneH259 lotH1486 and oneH259 portionH2256 for an inheritanceH5159, since I am a numerousH7227 peopleH5971 whomH834 the LordH3068 has thusH3541 farH5704 blessedH1288?” 15JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to them, “IfH518 you are a numerousH7227 peopleH5971, goH5927 23up to the forestH3293 and 24clearH1254 a place for yourself thereH8033 in the landH776 of the PerizzitesH6522 and of the RephaimH7497, sinceH3588 the hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669 is too narrowH213 for you.” 16The sonsH1121 of JosephH3130 saidH559, “The hillH2022 countryH2022 is not enoughH4672 for us, and allH3605 the CanaanitesH3669 who liveH3427 in the valleyH6010 landH776 have 25chariotsH7393 of ironH1270, both those whoH834 are in Beth-sheanH1052 and its townsH1323 and those whoH834 are in the valleyH6010 of JezreelH3157.” 17JoshuaH3091 spokeH559 to the houseH1004 of JosephH3130, to EphraimH669 and ManassehH4519, sayingH559, “You are a numerousH7227 peopleH5971 and have greatH1419 powerH3581; you shall not haveH1961 oneH259 lotH1486 only, 18but the hillH2022 countryH2022 shall be yours. For though it is a forestH3293, you shall 26clearH1254 it, and to its 27farthestH8444 bordersH8444 it shall be yours; for you shall 28driveH3423 out the CanaanitesH3669, evenH3588 thoughH3588 they have 29chariotsH7393 of ironH1270 and thoughH3588 they are strongH2389.”
