Joshua 10

1Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedekH139 kingH4428 of JerusalemH3389 heardH8085 how JoshuaH3091 had takenH3920 Ai, and had utterly destroyed it (as he had done to JerichoH3405 and her kingH4428, so he had done to Ai and her kingH4428), and how the inhabitantsH3427 of GibeonH1391 had madeH6213 peace with IsraelH3478, and were among them; 2that they fearedH3372 greatly, because GibeonH1391 was a greatH1419 cityH5892, as oneH259 of the royal citiesH5892, and because it was greaterH1419 than Ai, and all the menH376 thereof were mightyH1368. 3Wherefore Adoni-zedekH139 kingH4428 of JerusalemH3389 sentH7971 unto Hoham kingH4428 of HebronH2275, and unto Piram kingH4428 of JarmuthH3412, and unto JaphiaH3309 kingH4428 of LachishH3923, and unto DebirH1688 kingH4428 of EglonH5700, sayingH559, 4ComeH5927 up unto me, and helpH5826 me, and let us smite GibeonH1391; for it hath made peace with JoshuaH3091 and with the children of IsraelH3478. 5Therefore the fiveH2568 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567, the kingH4428 of JerusalemH3389, the kingH4428 of HebronH2275, the kingH4428 of JarmuthH3412, the kingH4428 of LachishH3923, the kingH4428 of EglonH5700, gatheredH622 themselves together, and wentH5927 up, they and all their hosts, and encampedH2583 against GibeonH1391, and made war against it.

6And the menH376 of GibeonH1391 sentH7971 unto JoshuaH3091 to the campH4264 to GilgalH1537, sayingH559, SlackH7503 not thy handH3027 from thy servantsH5650; comeH5927 up to us quicklyH4120, and saveH3467 us, and helpH5826 us: for all the kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567 that dwellH3427 in the hill-country are gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 against us. 7So JoshuaH3091 wentH5927 up from GilgalH1537, he, and all the peopleH5971 of warH4421 with him, and all the mightyH1368 menH1368 of valor. 8And Jehovah saidH559 unto JoshuaH3091, FearH3372 them not: for I have delivered them into thy handsH3027; there shall not a manH376 of them standH5975 before thee. 9JoshuaH3091 therefore cameH935 upon them suddenlyH6597; for he wentH935 up from GilgalH1537 all the nightH3915. 10And Jehovah discomfited them before IsraelH3478, and he slew them with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347 at GibeonH1391, and chased them by the wayH1870 of the ascent of Beth-horonH1032, and smote them to AzekahH5825, and unto MakkedahH4719. 11And it came to pass, as they fledH5127 from before IsraelH3478, while they were at the descentH4174 of Beth-horonH1032, that Jehovah castH7993 downH7993 greatH1419 stonesH68 from heavenH8064 upon them unto AzekahH5825, and they diedH4191: they were moreH4480 who diedH4191 with the hailstones than they whom the children of IsraelH3478 slewH2026 with the swordH2719.

12ThenH227 spake JoshuaH3091 to Jehovah in the dayH3117 when Jehovah delivered up the AmoritesH567 before the children of IsraelH3478; and he saidH559 in the sight of IsraelH3478,

Is not this writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of JasharH3477? And the sunH8121 stayed in the midst of heavenH8064, and hasted not to goH935 down about a whole dayH3117. 14And there wasH1961 no dayH3117 like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened unto the voiceH6963 of a manH376: for Jehovah foughtH3898 for IsraelH3478.

15And JoshuaH3091 returnedH7725, and all IsraelH3478 with him, unto the campH4264 to GilgalH1537.

16And these fiveH2568 kingsH4428 fledH5127, and hidH2244 themselves in the caveH4631 at MakkedahH4719. 17And it was toldH5046 JoshuaH3091, sayingH559, The fiveH2568 kingsH4428 are foundH4672, hiddenH2244 in the caveH4631 at MakkedahH4719. 18And JoshuaH3091 saidH559, RollH1556 greatH1419 stonesH68 unto the mouthH6310 of the caveH4631, and set menH376 by it to keepH8104 them: 19but stay not ye; pursueH7291 after your enemiesH341, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their citiesH5892: for Jehovah your GodH430 hath delivered them into your handH3027. 20And it cameH935 to pass, when JoshuaH3091 and the children of IsraelH3478 had made an endH3615 of slaying them with a veryH3966 greatH1419 slaughterH4347, till they wereH1961 consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified citiesH5892, 21that all the peopleH5971 returnedH7725 to the campH4264 to JoshuaH3091 at MakkedahH4719 in peaceH7965: none moved his tongueH3956 against any of the children of IsraelH3478.

22Then saidH559 JoshuaH3091, OpenH6605 the mouthH6310 of the caveH4631, and bringH3318 forthH3318 those fiveH2568 kingsH4428 unto me out of the caveH4631. 23And they did soH3651, and broughtH3318 forthH3318 those fiveH2568 kingsH4428 unto him out of the caveH4631, the kingH4428 of JerusalemH3389, the kingH4428 of HebronH2275, the kingH4428 of JarmuthH3412, the kingH4428 of LachishH3923, the kingH4428 of EglonH5700. 24And it came to pass, when they broughtH3318 forthH3318 those kingsH4428 unto JoshuaH3091, that JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 for all the menH376 of IsraelH3478, and saidH559 unto the chiefs of the menH376 of warH4421 that wentH1980 with him, ComeH1980 near, putH7760 your feetH7272 upon the necksH6677 of these kingsH4428. And they came near, and putH7760 their feetH7272 upon the necksH6677 of them. 25And JoshuaH3091 saidH559 unto them, FearH3372 not, nor be dismayedH2865; be strongH2388 and of good courage: for thusH3602 shall Jehovah do to all your enemiesH341 against whom ye fightH3898. 26And afterward JoshuaH3091 smote them, and putH4191 them to deathH4191, and hangedH8518 them on fiveH2568 treesH6086: and they wereH1961 hangingH8518 upon the treesH6086 until the eveningH6153. 27And it cameH935 to pass at the timeH6256 of the goingH935 downH3381 of the sunH8121, that JoshuaH3091 commandedH6680, and they took them downH3381 off the treesH6086, and castH7993 them into the caveH4631 wherein they had hiddenH2244 themselves, and laid greatH1419 stonesH68 on the mouthH6310 of the caveH4631, unto this very dayH3117.

28And JoshuaH3091 tookH3920 MakkedahH4719 on that dayH3117, and smote it with the edge of the swordH2719, and the kingH4428 thereof: he utterly destroyed them and all the soulsH5315 that were therein; he leftH7604 none remainingH7604; and he did to the kingH4428 of MakkedahH4719 as he had done unto the kingH4428 of JerichoH3405.

29And JoshuaH3091 passedH5674 from MakkedahH4719, and all IsraelH3478 with him, unto LibnahH3841, and foughtH3898 against LibnahH3841: 30and Jehovah delivered it alsoH1571, and the kingH4428 thereof, into the handH3027 of IsraelH3478; and he smote it with the edge of the swordH2719, and all the soulsH5315 that were therein; he leftH7604 none remainingH7604 in it; and he did unto the kingH4428 thereof as he had done unto the kingH4428 of JerichoH3405.

31And JoshuaH3091 passedH5674 from LibnahH3841, and all IsraelH3478 with him, unto LachishH3923, and encampedH2583 against it, and foughtH3898 against it: 32and Jehovah delivered LachishH3923 into the handH3027 of IsraelH3478; and he tookH3920 it on the secondH8145 dayH3117, and smote it with the edge of the swordH2719, and all the soulsH5315 that were therein, according to all that he had done to LibnahH3841.

33ThenH227 Horam kingH4428 of GezerH1507 cameH5927 up to helpH5826 LachishH3923; and JoshuaH3091 smote him and his peopleH5971, until he had leftH7604 him none remainingH7604.

34And JoshuaH3091 passedH5674 from LachishH3923, and all IsraelH3478 with him, unto EglonH5700; and they encampedH2583 against it, and foughtH3898 against it; 35and they tookH3920 it on that dayH3117, and smote it with the edge of the swordH2719; and all the soulsH5315 that were therein he utterly destroyed that dayH3117, according to all that he had done to LachishH3923.

36And JoshuaH3091 wentH5927 up from EglonH5700, and all IsraelH3478 with him, unto HebronH2275; and they foughtH3898 against it: 37and they tookH3920 it, and smote it with the edge of the swordH2719, and the kingH4428 thereof, and all the citiesH5892 thereof, and all the soulsH5315 that were therein; he leftH7604 none remainingH7604, according to all that he had done to EglonH5700; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the soulsH5315 that were therein.

38And JoshuaH3091 returnedH7725, and all IsraelH3478 with him, to DebirH1688, and foughtH3898 against it: 39and he tookH3920 it, and the kingH4428 thereof, and all the citiesH5892 thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the swordH2719, and utterly destroyed all the soulsH5315 that were therein; he leftH7604 none remainingH7604: as he had done to HebronH2275, so he did to DebirH1688, and to the kingH4428 thereof; as he had done also to LibnahH3841, and to the kingH4428 thereof.

40So JoshuaH3091 smote all the landH776, the hill-country, and the SouthH5045, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kingsH4428: he leftH7604 none remainingH7604, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, commandedH6680. 41And JoshuaH3091 smote them from Kadesh-barneaH6947 even unto GazaH5804, and all the country of GoshenH1657, even unto GibeonH1391. 42And all these kingsH4428 and their landH776 did JoshuaH3091 takeH3920 at oneH259 timeH6471, because Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, foughtH3898 for IsraelH3478. 43And JoshuaH3091 returnedH7725, and all IsraelH3478 with him, unto the campH4264 to GilgalH1537.
