1 Timothy 5
1Rebuke not an elderG4245, but exhortG3870 him as a fatherG3962; the younger men as brethren: 2the elderG4245 women as mothersG3384; the younger as sistersG79, in all purityG47. 3HonorG5091 widowsG5503 that are widowsG5503 indeedG3689. 4But if any widowG5503 hath childrenG5043 or grandchildren, let them learnG3129 first to show piety towards their ownG2398 family, and to requite their parents: for this isG1510 acceptable in the sight of GodG2316. 5NowG1161 she that is a widowG5503 indeed, and desolate, hath her hopeG1679 set on GodG2316, and continueth in supplications and prayersG4335 nightG3571 and dayG2250. 6But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth. 7These thingsG3778 alsoG2532 commandG3853, that they may beG1510 without reproachG423. 8But if any provideth not for his ownG2398, and specially his ownG2398 householdG3609, he hath deniedG720 the faithG4102, and isG1510 worse than an unbelieverG571. 9Let none be enrolled as a widowG5503 under threescore yearsG2094 old, having been the wifeG1135 of oneG1520 manG435, 10well reported of for goodG18 worksG2041; if she hath brought up children, if she hath used hospitality to strangers, if she hath washedG3538 the saints’G40 feetG4228, if she hath relieved the afflicted, if she hath diligently followed every goodG18 workG2041. 11But younger widowsG5503 refuseG3868: for whenG3752 they have waxed wanton against ChristG5547, they desireG2309 to marryG1060; 12having condemnationG2917, because they have rejectedG114 their firstG4413 pledge. 13And withal they learnG3129 alsoG2532 to be idleG692, going about from houseG3614 to houseG3614; and not onlyG3440 idleG692, but tattlers alsoG2532 and busybodies, speakingG2980 things which they oughtG1163 not. 14I desire thereforeG3767 that the younger widows marryG1060, bear children, rule the household, giveG1325 no occasionG874 to the adversary for reviling: 15for alreadyG2235 some are turnedG1624 asideG1624 after SatanG4567. 16If any woman that believeth hath widowsG5503, let her relieve them, and let not the churchG1577 be burdenedG916; that it may relieve them that are widowsG5503 indeed.
17Let the eldersG4245 that rule wellG2573 be countedG515 worthyG515 of doubleG1362 honorG5092, especiallyG3122 those who laborG2872 in the wordG3056 and in teachingG1319. 18For the scriptureG1124 saith, Thou shalt not muzzleG5392 the oxG1016 when he treadeth out the corn. And, The laborer is worthyG514 of his hire. 19Against an elderG4245 receiveG3858 not an accusationG2724, except at the mouth of twoG1417 or threeG5140 witnessesG3144. 20Them that sinG264 reprove in the sight of all, that the restG3062 alsoG2532 may be in fearG5401. 21I charge thee in the sight of GodG2316, and ChristG5547 JesusG2424, and the electG1588 angelsG32, that thou observe these thingsG3778 without prejudice, doing nothingG3367 by partiality. 22Lay handsG5495 hastily on no man, neither be partaker of otherG245 men’s sinsG266: keepG5083 thyself pureG53. 23Be noG3371 longerG3371 a drinker of water, but useG5530 a littleG3641 wineG3631 for thy stomach’s sakeG1223 and thine oftenG4437 infirmitiesG769. 24Some men’sG444 sinsG266 areG1510 evidentG4271, goingG4254 before unto judgmentG2920; and some menG444 alsoG2532 they follow after. 25In like manner alsoG2532 there are goodG2570 worksG2041 that are evidentG4271; and such as are otherwise cannot be hidG2928.
