1 Thessalonians 5
American Standard Version
1But concerningG4012 the timesG2540 and the seasonsG2540, brethren, ye have no needG5532 that aught be writtenG1125 unto you. 2For yourselves know perfectly that the dayG2250 of the LordG2962 soG3779 cometh as a thiefG2812 in the nightG3571. 3WhenG3752 they are sayingG3004, PeaceG1515 and safety, then sudden destructionG3639 cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escapeG1628. 4But ye, brethren, areG1510 not in darknessG4655, that that dayG2250 should overtake you as a thiefG2812: 5for ye areG1510 all sonsG5207 of lightG5457, and sonsG5207 of the dayG2250: we areG1510 not of the nightG3571, nor of darknessG4655; 6so then let us not sleepG2518, as do the restG3062, but let us watchG1127 and be soberG3525. 7For they that sleepG2518 sleepG2518 in the nightG3571; and they that are drunken are drunken in the nightG3571. 8But let us, since we areG1510 of the dayG2250, beG1510 soberG3525, putting on the breastplateG2382 of faithG4102 and loveG26; and for a helmetG4030, the hopeG1680 of salvationG4991. 9For GodG2316 appointedG5087 us not unto wrathG3709, but unto the obtainingG4047 of salvationG4991 through our LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, 10who diedG599 for us, that, whether we wake or sleepG2518, we should liveG2198 togetherG260 with him. 11Wherefore exhortG3870 oneG1520 another, and buildG3618 each otherG240 up, evenG2532 as alsoG2532 ye do.
12But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that laborG2872 among you, and are over you in the LordG2962, and admonishG3560 you; 13and to esteemG2233 them exceeding highly in loveG26 for their work’s sakeG1223. Be at peaceG1514 among yourselves. 14And we exhortG3870 you, brethren, admonishG3560 the disorderly, encourageG3870 the fainthearted, support the weakG772, be longsuffering toward all. 15SeeG3708 that none renderG591 unto any oneG240 evilG2556 for evilG2556; but alwaysG3842 follow after that which is goodG18, oneG240 toward another, and toward all. 16RejoiceG5463 alwaysG3842; 17prayG4336 without ceasing; 18in everythingG3956 giveG2168 thanksG2168: for this is the will of GodG2316 in ChristG5547 JesusG2424 to you-ward. 19QuenchG4570 not the SpiritG4151; 20despiseG1848 not prophesyings; 21prove all thingsG3956; holdG2722 fastG2722 that which is goodG2570; 22abstainG568 from every formG1491 of evilG4190.
23And the GodG2316 of peaceG1515 himself sanctifyG37 you wholly; and may your spiritG4151 and soulG5590 and bodyG4983 be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547. 24FaithfulG4103 is he that calleth you, who will alsoG2532 do it.
26Salute all the brethren with a holyG40 kissG5370. 27I adjureG3726 you by the LordG2962 that this epistle be readG314 unto all the brethren.
28The graceG5485 of our LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547 be with you.
