Pharaoh in Pursuit
1Now the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to MosesH4872, sayingH559, 2“TellH1696 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 to turnH7725 backH7725 and campH2583 in frontH6440 of 1Pi-hahirothH6367, betweenH996 2MigdolH4024 and the seaH3220; you shall campH2583 in frontH6440 of Baal-zephonH1189, oppositeH5227 it, by the seaH3220. 3For PharaohH6547 will sayH559 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478, ‘They are wanderingH943 aimlesslyH943 in the landH776; the wildernessH4057 has shutH5462 them inH5462.’ 4And 3I will 4hardenH2388 Pharaoh’sH6547 heartH3820, and 5he will chaseH7291 afterH310 them; and I will be honoredH3513 through PharaohH6547 and allH3605 his armyH2428, and 6the EgyptiansH4714 will knowH3045 that I am the LordH3068.” And they didH6213 soH3651.
5When the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 was toldH5046 that the peopleH5971 had fledH1272, 7PharaohH6547 and his servantsH5650 hadH2015 aH2015 changeH2015 of heartH3824 towardH413 the peopleH5971, and they saidH559, “WhatH4100 is thisH2088 that we have doneH6213, that we have letH7971 IsraelH3478 goH7971 from servingH5647 us?” 6So he had horses harnessedH631 to his chariotH7393 and tookH3947 his peopleH5971 with him; 7and he tookH3947 sixH8337 hundredH3967 selectH977 chariotsH7393, and allH3605 the other chariotsH7393 of EgyptH4714 with officersH7991 overH5921 allH3605 of them. 8So 8the LordH3068 9hardenedH2388 the heartH3820 of PharaohH6547, kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, and he chasedH7291 afterH310 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 as the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 were goingH3318 outH3318 1011boldlyH7311H3027. 9Then 12the EgyptiansH4714 chasedH7291 afterH310 them with allH3605 the horsesH5483 and chariotsH7393 of PharaohH6547, his horsemenH6571 and his armyH2428, and they overtookH5381 them campingH2583 by the seaH3220, 13besideH5921 Pi-hahirothH6367, in frontH6440 of Baal-zephonH1189.
10As PharaohH6547 approachedH7126, the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 14lookedH5375H5869, and beholdH2009, the EgyptiansH4714 were comingH5265 afterH310 them, and they becameH3372 veryH3966 frightenedH3372; 15so the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 criedH6817 outH6817 to the LordH3068. 11Then 16they saidH559 to MosesH4872, “Is it becauseH4480H1097 thereH369 wereH369 noH369 gravesH6913 in EgyptH4714 that you have takenH3947 us away to dieH4191 in the wildernessH4057? WhyH4100 have you dealtH6213 with us in thisH2088 wayH2088, 17bringingH3318 us outH3318 of EgyptH4714? 1218Is thisH2088 not the wordH1697 that we spokeH1696 to you in EgyptH4714, sayingH559, ‘19LeaveH2308 us aloneH4480 so that we may serveH5647 the EgyptiansH4714’? For it would have been betterH2896 for us to serveH5647 the EgyptiansH4714 thanH4480 to dieH4191 in the wildernessH4057!”
The Sea Is Divided
13But MosesH4872 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, “20Do not fearH3372! 21StandH3320 by and seeH7200 22the salvationH3444 of the LordH3068, whichH834 He will performH6213 for you todayH3117; for the EgyptiansH4714 whomH834 you have seenH7200 todayH3117, you will neverH3808H5750 seeH7200 them againH3254, everH5704H5769. 1423The LordH3068 will fightH3898 for you, while 24you keepH2790 silentH2790.”
15Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “WhyH4100 are you cryingH6817 outH6817 to Me? TellH1696 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 to goH5265 forwardH5265. 16As for you, liftH7311 upH7311 25your staffH4294 and reachH5186 outH5186 with your handH3027 overH5921 the seaH3220 and divideH1234 it, and the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 shall 26goH935 throughH935 the midstH8432 of the seaH3220 on dryH3004 landH3004. 17And as for Me, beholdH2009, 27I will 28hardenH2388 the heartsH3820 of the EgyptiansH4714 so that they will goH935 inH935 afterH310 them; and I will be honoredH3513 through PharaohH6547 and allH3605 his armyH2428, through his chariotsH7393 and his horsemenH6571. 1829Then the EgyptiansH4714 will knowH3045 that I am the LordH3068, when I am honoredH3513 through PharaohH6547, through his chariotsH7393, and through his horsemenH6571.”
19Then 30the angelH4397 of GodH430, who had been goingH1980 beforeH6440 the campH4264 of IsraelH3478, movedH5265 and wentH1980 behindH4480H310 them; and the pillarH5982 of cloudH6051 movedH5265 from beforeH4480H6440 them and stoodH5975 behindH4480H310 them. 20So it cameH935 betweenH996 the campH4264 of EgyptH4714 and the campH4264 of IsraelH3478; and there was the cloudH6051 31along with the darknessH2822, yet it gaveH215 lightH215 at nightH3915. Therefore the oneH2088 did not approachH7126 the otherH2088 allH3605 nightH3915.
2132Then MosesH4872 reachedH5186 outH5186 with his handH3027 overH5921 the seaH3220; and the LordH3068 33sweptH1980 the seaH3220 back by a strongH5794 eastH6921 windH7307 allH3605 nightH3915, and turnedH7760 the seaH3220 into 34dryH2724 landH2724, and 35the watersH4325 were dividedH1234. 22So 36the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 37wentH935 throughH935 the midstH8432 of the seaH3220 on the dryH3004 landH3004, and 38the watersH4325 were like a wallH2346 to them on their rightH3225 and on their leftH8040. 23Then 39the EgyptiansH4714 tookH7291 upH7291 theH7291 pursuitH7291, and allH3605 Pharaoh’sH6547 horsesH5483, his chariotsH7393, and his horsemenH6571 wentH935 inH935 afterH310 them into the midstH8432 of the seaH3220. 24But at the morningH1242 watchH821, 40the LordH3068 lookedH8259 downH8259 on the 41armyH4264 of the EgyptiansH4714 42through the pillarH5982 of fireH784 and cloudH6051, and broughtH2000 the 43armyH4264 of the EgyptiansH4714 intoH2000 confusionH2000. 25He 44causedH5493 their chariotH4818 wheelsH212 toH5493 swerveH5493, and He made them driveH5090 with difficultyH3517; so the EgyptiansH4714 each saidH559, “Let me fleeH5127 from IsraelH3478, 45for the LordH3068 is fightingH3898 for them against the EgyptiansH4714.”
26Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “46ReachH5186 outH5186 with your handH3027 overH5921 the seaH3220 so that the watersH4325 may comeH7725 backH7725 overH5921 the EgyptiansH4714, overH5921 their chariotsH7393 and their horsemenH6571.” 27So MosesH4872 reachedH5186 outH5186 with his handH3027 overH5921 the seaH3220, and 47the seaH3220 returnedH7725 to its normalH386 stateH386 at daybreakH1242, while the EgyptiansH4714 were fleeingH5127 48rightH7122 intoH7122 it; then the LordH3068 4950overthrewH5287 the EgyptiansH4714 in the midstH8432 of the seaH3220. 28The watersH4325 returnedH7725 and coveredH3680 the chariotsH7393 and the horsemenH6571, Pharaoh’sH6547 entireH3605 armyH2428 that had goneH935 into the seaH3220 afterH310 them; 51not evenH5704 oneH259 of them remainedH7604. 29But the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 walkedH1980 on 52dryH3004 landH3004 through the midstH8432 of the seaH3220, and the watersH4325 were like a wallH2346 to them on their rightH3225 and on their leftH8040.
3053So the LordH3068 savedH3467 IsraelH3478 that dayH3117 from the handH3027 of the EgyptiansH4714, and IsraelH3478 54sawH7200 the EgyptiansH4714 deadH4191 on the seashoreH3220H8193. 31When IsraelH3478 sawH7200 the greatH1419 55powerH3027 whichH834 the LordH3068 had 56usedH6213 against the EgyptiansH4714, the peopleH5971 57fearedH3372 the LordH3068, and 58they believedH539 in the LordH3068 and in His servantH5650 MosesH4872.
