The Passover Lamb

1Now the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872 and AaronH175 in the landH776 of 1EgyptH4714, 2“2ThisH2088 monthH2320 shall be the beginningH7218 of monthsH2320 for you; it is to be the firstH7223 monthH2320 of the yearH8141 for you. 3SpeakH1696 to allH3605 the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, ‘On the tenthH6218 of thisH2088 monthH2320 they are, eachH376 oneH376, to takeH3947 a 3lambH7716 for themselves, according to the fathers’H1 householdsH1004, a 4lambH7716 for 5each householdH1004. 4Now ifH518 the householdH1004 isH4591 tooH4480 smallH4591 for a 6lambH7716, then he and his neighborH7934 nearestH7138 to his houseH1004 are to takeH3947 one according to the 7numberH4373 of personsH5315 in them; in proportionH6310 to 8what eachH376 oneH376 should eatH398, you are to 9divideH3699 the lambH7716. 5Your 10lambH7716 shall be 11an unblemishedH8549 maleH2145 a yearH8141 oldH1121; you may takeH3947 it from the sheepH3532 or from the goatsH5795. 612You shall keepH1961H4931 it untilH5704 the 13fourteenthH702H6240 dayH3117 of the sameH2088 monthH2320, then the wholeH3605 assemblyH6951 of the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478 is to slaughterH7819 it 1415at twilightH6153. 716Moreover, they shall takeH3947 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 and putH5414 it on the twoH8147 doorpostsH4201 and on the lintelH4947 17of the housesH1004 in whichH834 they eatH398 it. 8They shall eatH398 the fleshH1320 18that same nightH3915, 19roastedH6748 with fireH784, and they shall eatH398 it with 20unleavenedH4682 breadH4682 2122and bitterH4844 herbsH4844. 9Do not eatH398 anyH4480 of it rawH4995 or boiledH1311 atH1310 allH1310 with waterH4325, but ratherH3588H518 23roastedH6748 with fireH784, both its headH7218 and its legsH3767 alongH5921 with 24its entrailsH7130. 1025And you shall not leaveH3498 anyH4480 of it overH3498 untilH5704 morningH1242, but whatever is leftH3498 of it untilH5704 morningH1242, you shall completelyH8313 burnH8313 with fireH784. 11Now you shall eatH398 it in thisH3602 wayH3602: with your garment 26beltedH2296 aroundH2296 your waistH4975, your sandalsH5275 on your feetH7272, and your staffH4731 in your handH3027; and you shall eatH398 it in a hurryH2649--it is 27the Lord’sH3068 PassoverH6453. 12For 28I will goH5674 through the landH776 of EgyptH4714 on that nightH3915, and fatallyH5221 strikeH5221 allH3605 the firstbornH1060 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, from the humanH120 firstborn to animalsH929; and 29against allH3605 the godsH430 of EgyptH4714 I will executeH6213 judgmentsH8201--30I am the LordH3068. 1331The bloodH1818 shall be a signH226 for you on the housesH1004 whereH834H8033 you 32live; and when I seeH7200 the bloodH1818 I will passH6452 overH5921 you, and noH3808 plagueH5063 will comeH1961 upon you 33to destroyH7843 you when I strikeH5221 the landH776 of EgyptH4714.

Feast of Unleavened Bread

14‘Now 34thisH2088 dayH3117 shall be 35a memorialH2146 to you, and you shall celebrateH2287 it as a feastH2282 to the LordH3068; throughout your generationsH1755 you are to celebrateH2287 it as 3637a permanentH5769 ordinanceH2708. 15For 38sevenH7651 daysH3117 you shall eatH398 unleavenedH4682 breadH4682, but on the firstH7223 dayH3117 you shall removeH7673 doughH7603 withH7603 yeastH7603 from your housesH1004; for whoeverH3605 eatsH398 anythingH2557 withH2557 yeastH2557 from the firstH7223 dayH3117 untilH5704 the seventhH7637 dayH3117, 39that 40personH5315 shall be cutH3772 offH3772 from IsraelH3478. 16And 41on the firstH7223 dayH3117 you shall have a holyH6944 assemblyH4744, and another holyH6944 assemblyH4744 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117; noH3808 workH4399 at allH3605 shall be doneH6213 on them, exceptH389 for whatH834 must be eatenH398 by everyH3605 personH5315--that aloneH905 may be 42preparedH6213 by you. 17You shall also keepH8104 43the Feast of UnleavenedH4682 BreadH4682, for on thisH2088 44veryH6106 dayH3117 I broughtH3318 your 45multitudesH6635 outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714; therefore you shall keepH8104 thisH2088 dayH3117 throughout your generationsH1755 as 46a 47permanentH5769 ordinanceH2708. 1848In the firstH7223 month, on the fourteenthH702H6240 dayH3117 of the monthH2320 at eveningH6153, you shall eatH398 unleavenedH4682 breadH4682, untilH5704 the twenty-firstH6242H259 dayH3117 of the monthH2320 at eveningH6153. 19For 49sevenH7651 daysH3117 there shall be noH3808 doughH7603 withH7603 yeastH7603 foundH4672 in your housesH1004; for whoeverH3605 eatsH398 anythingH4263 withH4263 yeastH4263, that 5051personH5315 shall be cutH3772 offH3772 from the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478, whether he is a strangerH1616 or a nativeH249 of the landH776. 20You shall not eatH398 anythingH3605 with yeastH4263; in allH3605 your dwellingsH4186 you shall eatH398 unleavenedH4682 breadH4682.’”

21Then 52MosesH4872 calledH7121 for allH3605 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 and saidH559 to them, “GoH4900 and 53takeH3947 for yourselves 54lambsH6629 according to your familiesH4940, and slaughterH7819 55the PassoverH6453 lamb. 22And 56you shall takeH3947 a bunchH92 of hyssopH231 and dipH2881 it in the bloodH1818 whichH834 is in the basinH5592, and 57applyH5060 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 that is in the basinH5592 to the lintelH4947 and the twoH8147 doorpostsH4201; and noneH3808H376 of you shall goH3318 outsideH3318 the doorH6607 of his houseH1004 untilH5704 morningH1242.

A Memorial of Redemption

23For 58the LordH3068 will passH5674 throughH5674 to strikeH5062 the EgyptiansH4714; but when He seesH7200 the bloodH1818 on the lintelH4947 and on the twoH8147 doorpostsH4201, the LordH3068 will passH6452 overH5921 the doorH6607 and will 59not allowH5414 the 60destroyerH7843 to comeH935 inH935 to your housesH1004 to strikeH5062 you. 24And 61you shall keepH8104 thisH2088 eventH1697 as an ordinanceH2706 for you and your childrenH1121 foreverH5704H5769. 25WhenH3588 you enterH935 the landH776 whichH834 the LordH3068 will giveH5414 you, as He has 62promisedH1696, you shall keepH8104 thisH2088 63riteH5656. 2664And when your childrenH1121 sayH559 to you, ‘65WhatH4100 does thisH2088 riteH5656 mean to you?’ 27then you shall sayH559, ‘It is a PassoverH6453 sacrificeH2077 to 66the LordH3068 becauseH834 HeH834 passedH6452 overH5921 the housesH1004 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 in EgyptH4714 when He struckH5062 the EgyptiansH4714, but 67sparedH5337 our homesH1004.’” 68And the peopleH5971 bowedH6915 lowH6915 and worshipedH2331.

28Then the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 wentH1980 and didH6213 so; justH3512 asH3512 the LordH3068 had commandedH6680 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, soH3651 they didH6213.

29Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961 at 69midnightH2677H3915 that 70the LordH3068 struckH5221 allH3605 71the firstbornH1060 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, from the firstbornH1060 of PharaohH6547 who satH3427 on his throneH3678 to the firstbornH1060 of the captiveH7628 whoH834 was in the dungeonH1004H953, and allH3605 the firstbornH1060 of 72cattleH929. 30And PharaohH6547 gotH6965 upH6965 in the nightH3915, he and allH3605 his servantsH5650 and allH3605 the EgyptiansH4714, and there was 73a greatH1419 cryH6818 in EgyptH4714, for thereH369 wasH369 noH369 homeH1004 whereH834H8033 thereH369 wasH369 not someone deadH4191. 31Then 74he calledH7121 for MosesH4872 and AaronH175 at nightH3915 and saidH559, “RiseH6965 upH6965, 75getH3318 outH3318 from amongH8432 my peopleH5971, bothH1571 you and the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478; and goH1980, 76worshipH5647 the LordH3068, as you have saidH1696. 32TakeH3947 77bothH1571 your flocksH6629 and your herdsH1241, as you have saidH1696, and goH1980, and blessH1288 me alsoH1571.”

Exodus of Israel

3378The EgyptiansH4714 urgedH2388H5921 the peopleH5971, to sendH7971 them outH7971 of the landH776 in a hurryH4116, for they saidH559, “We will allH3605 be deadH4191.” 34So the peopleH5971 tookH5375 79their doughH1217 beforeH2962 it wasH2556 leavenedH2556, with their kneadingH4863 bowlsH4863 boundH6887 upH6887 in the clothesH8071 on their shouldersH7926.

3580Now the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 had doneH6213 according to the wordH1697 of MosesH4872, for they had requestedH7592 from the EgyptiansH4714 articlesH3627 of silverH3701 and articlesH3627 of goldH2091, and clothingH8071; 36and the LordH3068 had givenH5414 the peopleH5971 favorH2580 in the sightH5869 of the EgyptiansH4714, so that they let them have their requestH7592. Therefore they 81plunderedH5337 the EgyptiansH4714.

37Now the 82sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 journeyedH5265 from 83RamesesH7486 to SuccothH5523, about 84sixH8337 hundredH3967 thousandH505 menH1397 on footH7273, asideH905 from childrenH2945. 38A 85mixedH6154 multitudeH7227 alsoH1571 wentH5927 upH5927 with them, 86along with flocksH6629 and herdsH1241, a 87veryH3966 largeH3515 numberH3515 of livestockH4735. 39And they bakedH644 the doughH1217 whichH834 they had broughtH3318 outH3318 of EgyptH4714 into cakesH5692 of unleavenedH4682 breadH4682. For it hadH2556 noH3808 yeastH2556, sinceH3588 they were 88drivenH1644 outH1644 of EgyptH4714 and couldH3201 not delayH4102, norH1571H3808 had they 89preparedH6213 anyH1571 provisionsH6720 for themselves.

40Now the timeH4186 90that the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 had livedH3427 in EgyptH4714 was 91430H702H3967H7970 yearsH8141. 41And at the endH7093 of 430H702H3967H7970 yearsH8141, on 92this veryH6106 dayH3117, 93allH3605 the 94multitudesH6635 of the LordH3068 departedH3318 from the landH776 of EgyptH4714.

Ordinance of the Passover

4295It is a nightH3915 96to be observedH8107 for the LordH3068, for having broughtH3318 them outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714; thisH2088 nightH3915 is for the LordH3068, 97to be observedH8107 by allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 throughout their generationsH1755.

43And the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872 and AaronH175, “ThisH2088 is the ordinanceH2708 of 98the PassoverH6453: noH3605H3808 99100foreignerH1121H5236 is to eatH398 it; 44but as for everyH3605 101slaveH5650 102that someoneH376 has purchasedH4736 with moneyH3701, after you have circumcisedH4135 him, thenH227 he may eatH398 it. 45103A strangerH8453 or a hiredH7916 workerH7916 shall not eatH398 it. 46It is to be eatenH398 in a singleH259 houseH1004; you are not to bringH3318 anyH4480 of the meatH1320 outsideH3318H2351 of the houseH1004, 104norH3808 are you to breakH7665 any boneH6106 of it. 47105AllH3605 the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478 are to 106celebrateH6213 this. 48But 107ifH3588 a strangerH1616 residesH1481 with you and 108celebratesH6213 the PassoverH6453 to the LordH3068, allH3605 of his malesH2145 are to be circumcisedH4135, and thenH227 he shall comeH7126 nearH7126 to 109celebrateH6213 it; and he shall be like a nativeH249 of the landH776. But noH3605H3808 uncircumcisedH6189 male may eatH398 it. 49110111The sameH259 lawH8451 shall 112applyH1961 to the nativeH249 as to the strangerH1616 who residesH1481 amongH8432 you.”

50Then allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213 so; they didH6213 justH3512 asH3512 the LordH3068 had commandedH6680 MosesH4872 and AaronH175. 51And on that veryH6106 dayH3117 113the LordH3068 broughtH3318 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 114according to their 115multitudesH6635.
