The Plague of Locusts
1Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “GoH935 to PharaohH6547, for 1I have 2hardenedH3513 his heartH3820 and the heartH3820 of his servantsH5650, soH4616 thatH4616 I may 3performH7896 theseH428 signsH226 of Mine 4amongH7130 them, 2and 5that you may tellH5608 in the 6presenceH241 of your sonH1121, and of your grandsonH1121, howH854H834 I madeH5953 aH5953 mockeryH5953 of the EgyptiansH4714 and howH834 I 7performedH7760 My signsH226 among them, 8so that you may knowH3045 that I am the LordH3068.”
3So MosesH4872 and AaronH175 wentH935 to PharaohH6547 and saidH559 to him, “ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of the HebrewsH5680 saysH559: ‘HowH4970 longH5704H4970 will you refuseH3985 to 9humbleH6031 yourself beforeH4480H6440 Me? 10LetH7971 My peopleH5971 goH7971, so that they may serveH5647 Me. 4For ifH518 you refuseH3986 to letH7971 My peopleH5971 goH7971, beholdH2009, tomorrowH4279 I will bringH935 locustsH697 into your territoryH1366. 5And they will coverH3680 the surfaceH5869 of the landH776, so that noH3808 one will beH3201 ableH3201 to seeH7200 the landH776. 11They will also eatH398 the restH3499 of whatH6413 has survivedH6413--what is leftH7604 to you from the hailH1259--and they will eatH398 everyH3605 treeH6086 of yours which growsH6779 12in the fieldH7704. 6Then 13your housesH1004 will be filledH4390 with them, 14together with the housesH1004 of allH3605 your servantsH5650 and the housesH1004 of allH3605 the EgyptiansH4714, something whichH834 neitherH3808 your fathersH1 norH3808 your grandfathersH1 have seenH7200, from the dayH3117 that they 15cameH1961 upon the earthH127 untilH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117.’” And he turnedH6437 and leftH3318H4480 PharaohH6547. 7Then 16Pharaoh’sH6547 servantsH5650 saidH559 to him, “HowH4970 longH5704H4970 shall thisH2088 man be 17a snareH4170 to us? LetH7971 the 18peopleH376 goH7971, so that they may serveH5647 the LordH3068 their GodH430. Do you not yetH2962 19realizeH3045 that EgyptH4714 is destroyedH6?” 8So MosesH4872 and AaronH175 20were broughtH7725 backH7725 to PharaohH6547, and he saidH559 to them, “21GoH1980, serveH5647 the LordH3068 your GodH430! 22WhoH4310 specificallyH4310 are the ones who are goingH1980?” 9MosesH4872 saidH559, “23We shall goH1980 with our youngH5288 and our oldH2205; with our sonsH1121 and our daughtersH1323, 24with our flocksH6629 and our herdsH1241 we shall goH1980, for we 25must hold a feastH2282 to the LordH3068.” 10Then he saidH559 to them, “SoH3651 may the LordH3068 be with you, whenH3512 I letH7971 you and your littleH2945 onesH2945 goH7971! WatchH7200 outH7200, for evilH7463 is 26on your mindH6440! 11Not soH3651! GoH1980 nowH4994, but only the menH1397 among you, and serveH5647 the LordH3068, sinceH3588 27that is what you desireH1245.” So 28they were drivenH1644 outH1644 from Pharaoh’sH6547 presenceH6440.
12Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “29ReachH5186 outH5186 with your handH3027 overH5921 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 for the locustsH697, so that they may comeH5927 upH5927 on the landH776 of EgyptH4714 and 30eatH398 everyH3605 plantH6212 of the landH776, everythingH3605 that the hailH1259 has leftH7604.” 13So MosesH4872 reachedH5186 outH5186 with his staffH4294 overH5921 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and the LordH3068 directedH5090 an eastH6921 windH7307 on the landH776 allH3605 that dayH3117 and allH3605 that nightH3915; and when it was morningH1242, the eastH6921 windH7307 31broughtH5375 the 32locustsH697. 1433The locustsH697 cameH5927 upH5927 overH5921 allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 and settledH5117 in allH3605 the territoryH1366 of EgyptH4714; they were veryH3966 34numerousH3515. There had neverH3808 beenH1961 soH3651 many 35locustsH697, norH3808 would there be soH3651 many 36againH310. 15For they coveredH3680 the surfaceH5869 of the wholeH3605 landH776, so that the landH776 was darkenedH2821; and they 37ateH398 everyH3605 plantH6212 of the landH776 and allH3605 the fruitH6529 of the treesH6086 that the hailH1259 had leftH3498. Therefore nothingH3808H3605 greenH3418 was leftH3498 on treeH6086 or plantH6212 of the fieldH7704 throughoutH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 16Then PharaohH6547 hurriedlyH4116 38calledH7121 for MosesH4872 and AaronH175, and he saidH559, “39I have sinnedH2398 against the LordH3068 your GodH430 and against you. 17So nowH6258, pleaseH4994 forgiveH5375 my sinH2403 onlyH389 thisH6471 onceH6471, and 40pleadH6279 with the LordH3068 your GodH430, that He would onlyH7534 removeH5493 thisH2088 deathH4194 from me.” 18Then 41he leftH3318H4480 PharaohH6547 and pleadedH6279 with the LordH3068. 19So the LordH3068 shiftedH2015 the wind to a veryH3966 strongH2389 westH3220 windH7307, which pickedH5375 upH5375 the locustsH697 and droveH8628 them into the 42RedH5488 SeaH3220; not oneH259 locustH697 was leftH7604 in allH3605 the territoryH1366 of EgyptH4714. 20But 43the LordH3068 44hardenedH2388 Pharaoh’sH6547 heartH3820, and he did not letH7971 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 goH7971.
Darkness over the Land
21Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “45ReachH5186 outH5186 with your handH3027 towardH5921 the skyH8064, so that there may be darknessH2822 overH5921 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, even a darknessH2822 46which may be feltH4959.” 22So MosesH4872 reachedH5186 outH5186 with his handH3027 towardH5921 the skyH8064, and there was 47thickH653 darknessH2822 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 for threeH7969 daysH3117. 23They did not seeH7200 oneH376 anotherH251, norH3808 did anyoneH376 riseH6965 from his placeH8478 for threeH7969 daysH3117, 48but allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 hadH1961 lightH216 in their dwellingsH4186. 24Then PharaohH6547 49calledH7121 for MosesH4872, and saidH559, “GoH1980, serveH5647 the LordH3068; onlyH7534 let your flocksH6629 and your herdsH1241 be leftH3322 behindH3322. EvenH1571 50your littleH2945 onesH2945 may goH1980 with you.” 25But MosesH4872 saidH559, “You must alsoH1571 51letH5414 us haveH5414H3027 sacrificesH2077 and burntH5930 offeringsH5930, so that we may 52sacrificeH6213 them to the LordH3068 our GodH430. 2653Therefore, our livestockH4735 tooH1571 shall goH1980 with us; not a hoofH6541 shall be leftH7604 behindH7604, for we shall takeH3947 someH4480 of them to serveH5647 the LordH3068 our GodH430. And untilH5704 we arriveH935 thereH8033, we ourselvesH587 do not knowH3045 with whatH4100 we shall serveH5647 the LordH3068.” 27But 54the LordH3068 55hardenedH2388 Pharaoh’sH6547 heartH3820, and he wasH14 not willingH14 to letH7971 them goH7971. 28Then PharaohH6547 saidH559 to him, “56GetH1980 awayH1980 from me! 57BeH8104 carefulH8104, do not seeH7200 my faceH6440 againH3254, for on the dayH3117 you seeH7200 my faceH6440, you shall dieH4191!” 29MosesH4872 saidH559, “You have spoken correctlyH3653; 58I shall neverH3808 seeH7200 your faceH6440 againH3254!”
