The Ten Commandments
Then GodH430 spokeH1696 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697, sayingH559,
“1I am the LordH3068 your GodH430, 2whoH834 broughtH3318 you outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of 3slaveryH5650.
“4You shall haveH1961 noH3808 otherH312 5godsH430 6beforeH5921H6440 Me.
“7You shall not makeH6213 for yourself 8an idolH6459, or anyH3605 likenessH8544 of whatH834 is in heavenH8064 aboveH4480H4605 or on the earthH776 beneathH8478, or in the waterH4325 underH8478 the earthH776. 59You shall not worshipH2331 them nor serveH5647 them; for I, the LordH3068 your GodH430, am a 10jealousH7067 GodH410, 11inflictingH6485 the 12punishmentH5771 of the fathersH1 on the childrenH1121, on the thirdH8029 and the fourthH7256 generations of those who hateH8130 Me, 6but showingH6213 13favorH2617 to 14thousandsH505, to those who loveH157 Me and keepH8104 My commandmentsH4687.
“15You shall not takeH5375 the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 your GodH430 in vainH7723, for the LordH3068 will not 16leaveH5352 him unpunishedH5352 whoH834 takesH5375 His nameH8034 in vainH7723.
“RememberH2142 17the SabbathH7676 dayH3117, to keepH6942 it holyH6942. 918For sixH8337 daysH3117 you shall laborH5647 and doH6213 allH3605 your workH4399, 10but the seventhH7637 dayH3117 is a SabbathH7676 of the LordH3068 your GodH430; on it 19you shall not doH6213 anyH3605 workH4399, you, or your sonH1121, or your daughterH1323, your maleH5650 slaveH5650 or your femaleH519 slaveH519, or your cattleH929, or your 20residentH1616 whoH834 21stays with you. 1122For in sixH8337 daysH3117 the LordH3068 madeH6213 the heavensH8064 and the earthH776, the seaH3220 and everythingH3605 that is in them, and He restedH5117 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117; for thatH3651 reasonH3651 the LordH3068 blessedH1288 the SabbathH7676 dayH3117 and madeH6942 it holyH6942.
“23HonorH3513 your fatherH1 and your motherH517, soH4616 thatH4616 your 24daysH3117 may be prolongedH748 on the landH127 whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 givesH5414 you.
“25You shall not murderH7523.
“26You shall not commitH5003 adulteryH5003.
“27You shall not stealH1589.
“28You shall not 29giveH6030 falseH8267 testimonyH5707 against your 30neighborH7453.
“31You shall not covetH2530 your neighbor’sH7453 houseH1004; 32you shall not covetH2530 your neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802, or his maleH5650 slaveH5650, or his femaleH519 slaveH519, or his oxH7794, or his donkeyH2543, or anythingH3605 that belongs to your neighborH7453.”
And 33allH3605 the peopleH5971 were watchingH7200 and hearing the 34thunderH6963 and the lightningH3940 flashesH3940, and the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, and the mountainH2022 smokingH6226; and when the peopleH5971 sawH7200 it all, they trembledH5128 and stoodH5975 at a distanceH7350. 1935Then they saidH559 to MosesH4872, “SpeakH1696 36to us yourselfH859 and we will listenH8085; but do not have GodH430 speakH1696 37to us, orH6435 we will dieH4191!” 20However, MosesH4872 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, “38Do not beH3372 afraidH3372; for GodH430 has comeH935 in orderH5668 39to testH5254 you, and in orderH5668 that 40the fearH3374 of Him may 41remainH1961H6440 with you, so that you will not sinH2398.” 21So the peopleH5971 stoodH5975 at a distanceH7350, while MosesH4872 approachedH5066 42the thickH6205 darknessH6205 whereH834H8033 GodH430 was.
Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 you shall sayH559 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478: ‘You yourselvesH864 have seenH7200 that 43I have spokenH1696 44to you from heavenH8064. 2345You shall not makeH6213 other gods besidesH854 Me; 46godsH430 of silverH3701 or godsH430 of goldH2091, you shall not makeH6213 for yourselvesH864. 24You shall makeH6213 47an altarH4196 of earthH127 for Me, and you shall sacrificeH2076 on it your 48burntH5930 offeringsH5930 and your 49peaceH8002 offeringsH8002, 50your sheepH6629 and your oxenH1241; in everyH3605 placeH4725 51whereH834 I cause My nameH8034 to be rememberedH2142, I will comeH935 to you and blessH1288 you. 25And ifH518 you makeH6213 an altarH4196 of stoneH68 for Me, 52you shall not buildH1129 it of cutH1496 stonesH1496, for if you wieldH5130 your chiselH2719 on it, you will profaneH2490 it. 26And you shall not goH5927 upH5927 by stepsH4609 to My altarH4196, soH834 thatH834 53your nakednessH6172 will not be exposedH1540 on it.’
