The Passover Held Again
1Then JosiahH2977 1celebratedH6213 the PassoverH6453 to the LordH3068 in JerusalemH3389, and 2they slaughteredH7819 the PassoverH6453 animals on the fourteenthH702H6240 day of the firstH7223 monthH2320. 2He appointedH5975 the priestsH3548 to their officesH4931 and 3encouragedH2388 them in the serviceH5656 of the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 3He also saidH559 to 4the LevitesH3881 who taughtH995 allH3605 IsraelH3478 and who were holyH6918 to the LordH3068, “PutH5414 the holyH6944 arkH727 in the houseH1004 whichH834 SolomonH8010 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 builtH1129; 5it will notH369 be a burdenH4853 on your shouldersH3802. NowH6258 serveH5647 the LordH3068 your GodH430 and His peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 46PrepareH3559 yourselves by your fathers’H1 householdsH1004 in your divisionsH4256, according to the writingH3791 of DavidH1732 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and 7according to the writingH4385 of his sonH1121 SolomonH8010. 5Furthermore, 8standH5975 in the holyH6944 place according to the sectionsH6391 of the fathers’H1 householdsH1004 of your countrymenH251, the 9layH1121 peopleH5971, and according to the LevitesH3881, by divisionH2515 of a father’sH1 householdH1004. 6Now 10slaughterH7819 the PassoverH6453 animals, 11keepH6942 one another consecratedH6942, and prepareH3559 for your countrymenH251 to actH6213 in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 by MosesH4872.”
7JosiahH2977 contributedH7311 to the layH1121 peopleH5971, to allH3605 who wereH4672 presentH4672, flocksH6629 of lambsH3532 and youngH1121H5795 goatsH1121H5795, allH3605 for the PassoverH6453 offeringsH6453, numberingH4557 thirtyH7970 thousandH505, plus threeH7969 thousandH505 bullsH1241; theseH428 were from the king’sH4428 propertyH7399. 8His officersH8269 also contributedH7311 a 12voluntaryH5071 offeringH5071 to the peopleH5971, the priestsH3548, and the LevitesH3881. HilkiahH2518, ZechariahH2148, and JehielH3171, 13the officialsH5057 of the houseH1004 of GodH430, gaveH5414 the priestsH3548 2,600H505H8337H3967 from the flocks and threeH7969 hundredH3967 bullsH1241, for the PassoverH6453 offeringsH6453. 914ConaniahH3562 also, and his brothersH251 ShemaiahH8098 and NethanelH5417, and HashabiahH2811 and JeielH3262 and JozabadH3107, the officersH8269 of the LevitesH3881, contributedH7311 fiveH2568 thousandH505 from the flocks and fiveH2568 hundredH3967 bullsH1241 to the LevitesH3881 for the PassoverH6453 offeringsH6453.
10So the serviceH5656 was preparedH3559, and 15the priestsH3548 stoodH5975 at their positionsH5977 and the LevitesH3881 by their divisionsH4256 according to the king’sH4428 commandH4687. 111617They slaughteredH7819 the PassoverH6453 animals, and while 18the priestsH3548 19sprinkledH2236 the bloodH1818 received from their handH3027, 20the LevitesH3881 skinnedH6584 the animals. 12Then they removedH5493 the burntH5930 offeringsH5930 so that they might giveH5414 them to the sectionsH4653 of the fathers’H1 householdsH1004 of the layH1121 peopleH5971 to presentH7126 to the LordH3068, as it is writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of MosesH4872. They did thisH3651 with the bullsH1241 as well. 13So 21they roastedH1310 the PassoverH6453 animals on the fireH784 according to the ordinanceH4941, and they boiledH1310 22the holyH6944 thingsH6944 in potsH5518, in kettlesH1731, and in pansH6745 and carriedH7323 them quicklyH7323 to allH3605 the layH1121 peopleH5971. 14AfterwardH310 they preparedH3559 for themselves and for the priestsH3548, becauseH3588 the priestsH3548, the sonsH1121 of AaronH175, were offeringH5927 the burntH5930 offeringsH5930 and the fatH2459 untilH5704 nightH3915; so the LevitesH3881 preparedH3559 for themselves and for the priestsH3548, the sonsH1121 of AaronH175. 15The singersH7891, the sonsH1121 of AsaphH623, were also at their positionsH4612 23according to the commandH4687 of DavidH1732, AsaphH623, HemanH1968, and JeduthunH3038 the king’sH4428 seerH2374; and 24the gatekeepersH7778 at eachH8179 gateH8179 did not haveH369 to leaveH5493 their serviceH5656, becauseH3588 their kinsmenH251 the LevitesH3881 preparedH3559 for them.
16So allH3605 the serviceH5656 of the LordH3068 was preparedH3559 on that dayH3117 to celebrateH6213 the PassoverH6453, and to offerH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH5930 on the altarH4196 of the LordH3068 according to the commandH4687 of KingH4428 JosiahH2977. 17And 25the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 who wereH4672 presentH4672 celebratedH6213 the PassoverH6453 at that timeH6256, and the FeastH2282 of UnleavenedH4682 BreadH4682 for sevenH7651 daysH3117. 1826There had not been a PassoverH6453 celebratedH6213 likeH3644 it in IsraelH3478 sinceH4480 the daysH3117 of SamuelH8050 the prophetH5030; norH3808 had anyH3605 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 celebratedH6213 such a PassoverH6453 as JosiahH2977 didH6213 with the priestsH3548, the LevitesH3881, allH3605 JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478 who wereH4672 presentH4672, and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389. 19In the eighteenthH8083H6240 yearH8141 of Josiah’sH2977 reignH4438 thisH2088 PassoverH6453 was celebratedH6213.
Josiah Dies in Battle
2027AfterH310 allH3605 thisH2088, whenH834 JosiahH2977 had setH3559 the 28templeH1004 inH3559 orderH3559, NecoH5224 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 cameH5927 upH5927 to wageH3898 warH3898 at 29CarchemishH3751 on the EuphratesH6578, and JosiahH2977 wentH3318 outH3318 to engageH7122 him. 21But 30Neco sentH7971 messengersH4397 to him, sayingH559, “3132WhatH4100 business do you have with me, KingH4428 of JudahH3063? I am not coming againstH5921 you todayH3117, but againstH413 the houseH1004 with which I am at warH4421, and GodH430 has toldH559 me to hurryH926. For your own sake, stopH2308 interfering with GodH430 whoH834 is with me, so that He does not destroyH7843 you.” 22However, JosiahH2977 would not turnH5437 33awayH5437 from him, but 34disguisedH2664 himself in order to fightH3898 against him; norH3808 did he listenH8085 to the wordsH1697 of NecoH5224 35from the mouthH6310 of GodH430, but he cameH935 to wageH3898 warH3898 on the plainH1237 of 36MegiddoH4023. 23The archersH3384 shotH3384 KingH4428 JosiahH2977, and the kingH4428 saidH559 to his servantsH5650, “TakeH5674 me awayH5674, for I amH2470 badlyH3966 woundedH2470.” 24So his servantsH5650 tookH5674 him outH5674 of the chariotH4818 and carriedH7392 him on the secondH4932 chariotH7393 whichH834 he had, and broughtH1980 him to JerusalemH3389 37where he diedH4191 and was buriedH6912 in the tombsH6913 of his fathersH1. 38AllH3605 JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 mournedH56 for JosiahH2977. 25Then 39JeremiahH3414 chantedH6969 aH6969 songH6969 ofH6969 mourningH6969 for JosiahH2977. And allH3605 the male and female singersH7891 speakH559 aboutH5921 JosiahH2977 in their songsH7015 ofH7015 mourningH7015 to this dayH3117. And they madeH5414 them an ordinanceH2706 in IsraelH3478; beholdH2009, they are also writtenH3789 in the LamentationsH7015. 26Now the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JosiahH2977 and his deedsH2617 of devotionH2617 as writtenH3789 in the LawH8451 of the LordH3068, 27and his actsH1697, the firstH7223 to the lastH314, beholdH2009, they are writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063.
