1Now it cameוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961aboutהָ֨יָהHa.yahH1961when allכָּל־kol-H3605the kingsמַלְכֵ֣יmal.KheiH4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֡יha.'e.mo.RiH567whoאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834werebeyondבְּעֵ֨בֶרbe.'E.verH5676the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֜ןhai.yar.DenH3383to the westיָ֗מָּהYa.mahH3220,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the kingsמַלְכֵ֤יmal.KheiH4428of theCanaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834wereby the seaהַיָּ֔םhai.YamH3220,heardכִשְׁמֹ֣עַkhish.Mo.a'H8085howאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H854H834the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068had driedH3001upH3001the watersמֵ֧יmeiH4325of the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֛ןhai.yar.DenH3383beforeמִפְּנֵ֥יmi.pe.NeiH4480H6440the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478untilעַד־'ad-H5704they had crossedעָבְרָ֑םa.ve.ra.mH5674,that their heartsלְבָבָ֗םle.va.VamH3824meltedוַיִּמַּ֣סvai.yi.MasH4549,and there was noוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808spiritר֔וּחַRu.achH7307in them anyH5750longerH5750becauseמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH4480H6440of the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סYis.ra.'ElH3478.
2At that timeבָּעֵ֣תba.'EtH6256the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “Makeעֲשֵׂ֥ה'a.SehH6213for yourselfflintH6864knivesחַֽרְב֣וֹתchar.VotH2719and circumciseמֹ֥לmolH4135againוְשׁ֛וּבve.ShuvH7725the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478the secondשֵׁנִֽית׃she.NitH8145timeH8145.”
4Thisוְזֶ֥הve.ZehH2088is the reasonהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697whyאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091circumcisedמָ֣לmalH4135them:allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971who cameH3318outH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֨יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714who were malesהַזְּכָרִ֜יםha.ze.kha.RimH2145,allכֹּ֣ל׀kolH3605the menH376of warהַמִּלְחָמָ֗הha.mil.cha.MahH4421,diedמֵ֤תוּMe.tuH4191in the wildernessבַמִּדְבָּר֙va.mid.BarH4057along the wayבַּדֶּ֔רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870after they cameH3318outH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.
5For allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971who cameH3318outH3318were circumcisedמֻלִ֣יםmu.LimH4135,but allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָ֠עָםHa.'omH5971who were bornהַיִּלֹּדִ֨יםhai.yi.lo.DimH3209in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּ֥רba.mid.BarH4057along the wayבַּדֶּ֛רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870as they cameH3318outH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֖יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714had not been circumcisedמָֽלוּ׃Ma.luH4135.
6For the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֮Yis.ra.'ElH3478walkedהָלְכ֣וּha.le.KhuH1980fortyאַרְבָּעִ֣ים'ar.ba.'ImH705yearsשָׁנָ֗הsha.NahH8141in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּר֒ba.mid.BarH4057,untilעַד־'ad-H5704allכָּל־kol-H3605the nationהַגּ֜וֹיha.GoyH1471, that is,the menH376of warהַמִּלְחָמָה֙ha.mil.cha.MahH4421who cameH3318outH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֔יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,perishedתֹּ֨םtomH8552becauseאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834they did not listenשָׁמְע֖וּsha.me.'UH8085to the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,to whomאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068had swornנִשְׁבַּ֤עnish.Ba'H7650that He would not let them seeהַרְאוֹתָ֣םhar.'o.TamH7200the landהָאָ֗רֶץha.'A.retzH776whichאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068had swornנִשְׁבַּ֨עnish.Ba'H7650to their fathersלַֽאֲבוֹתָם֙la.'a.vo.TamH1to giveלָ֣תֶתLa.tetH5414us, a landאֶ֛רֶץ'E.retzH776flowingזָבַ֥תza.VatH2100with milkחָלָ֖בcha.LavH2461and honeyוּדְבָֽשׁ׃u.de.VashH1706.
7So their childrenבְּנֵיהֶם֙be.nei.HemH1121whom He raisedH6965upH6965inH8478their placeתַּחְתָּ֔םtach.TamH8478,Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091circumcisedמָ֣לmalH4135;for they were uncircumcisedעֲרֵלִ֣ים'a.re.LimH6189,becauseH3588they had not circumcisedמָ֥לוּMa.luH4135them along the wayבַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ba.Da.rekhH1870.
8Now whenH3512they had finishedתַּ֥מּוּTa.muH8552circumcisingלְהִמּ֑וֹלle.hi.MolH4135allכָל־khol-H3605the nationהַגּ֖וֹיha.GoyH1471,they remainedוַיֵּשְׁב֥וּvai.ye.she.VuH3427inH8478their placesתַחְתָּ֛םtach.TamH8478in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֖הba.ma.cha.NehH4264untilעַ֥ד'adH5704they recoveredחֲיוֹתָֽם׃ פcha.yo.TamH2421.
9Then the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “Todayהַיּ֗וֹםhai.YomH3117I have rolledH1556awayגַּלּ֛וֹתִיga.Lo.tiH1556the shameחֶרְפַּ֥תcher.PatH2781of Egyptמִצְרַ֖יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714from you.” So the nameשֵׁ֣םshemH8034of that placeהַמָּק֤וֹםha.ma.KomH4725is calledוַיִּקְרָ֞אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Gilgalגִּלְגָּ֔לgil.GalH1537to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.
10While the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478campedוַיַּחֲנ֥וּvai.ya.cha.NuH2583at Gilgalבַּגִּלְגָּ֑לba.gil.GalH1537they celebratedוַיַּעֲשׂ֣וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213the Passoverהַפֶּ֡סַחha.Pe.sachH6453on the eveningבָּעֶ֖רֶבba.'E.revH6153of thefourteenthבְּאַרְבָּעָה֩ עָשָׂ֨רbe.'ar.ba.'Ah 'a.SarH702H6240dayי֥וֹםYomH3117of the monthלַחֹ֛דֶשׁla.Cho.deshH2320on the desertH6160plainsבְּעַֽרְב֥וֹתbe.'ar.VotH6160of Jerichoיְרִיחֽוֹ׃ye.ri.ChoH3405.
11Then on the dayמִמָּֽחֳרַ֥תmi.mo.cho.RatH4283afterH4283the Passoverהַפֶּ֖סַחha.Pe.sachH6453, onthat veryבְּעֶ֖צֶםbe.'E.tzemH6106dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117,they ateוַיֹּ֨אכְל֜וּvai.Yo.khe.LuH398someH4480of the produceמֵעֲב֥וּרme.'a.VurH5669of the landהָאָ֛רֶץha.'A.retzH776,unleavenedמַצּ֣וֹתma.TzotH4682cakesH4682and roastedוְקָל֑וּיve.ka.LuiH7033grain.
12Andthe mannaהַמָּ֜ןha.ManH4478ceasedוַיִּשְׁבֹּ֨תvai.yish.BotH7673on the dayמִֽמָּחֳרָ֗תmi.mo.cho.RatH4283afterH4283they had eatenבְּאָכְלָם֙be.'a.khe.LamH398someH4480of the produceמִתְּבוּאַת֙mi.te.vu.'AtH8393of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,so that the sonsלִבְנֵ֥יliv.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478noוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808longerע֛וֹדodH5750hadהָ֥יָהHa.yahH1961mannaמָ֑ןManH4478,but they ateוַיֹּאכְל֗וּvai.yo.khe.LuH398someH4480of the yieldH8393of the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנַ֔עַןke.Na.'anH3667during that yearבַּשָּׁנָ֖הba.sha.NahH8141.
13Now it cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961aboutבִּֽהְי֣וֹתbih.YotH1961when Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁעַ֮ye.ho.shu.a'H3091was by Jerichoבִּירִיחוֹ֒bi.ri.ChoH3405,he raisedוַיִּשָּׂ֤אvai.yi.Sa'H5375his eyesעֵינָיו֙'ei.NavH5869and lookedוַיַּ֔רְאvai.Yar'H7200,and beholdוְהִנֵּה־ve.hi.neh-H2009,a manאִישׁ֙'ishH376was standingעֹמֵ֣ד'o.MedH5975oppositeלְנֶגְדּ֔וֹle.neg.DoH5048him with his swordוְחַרְבּ֥וֹve.char.BoH2719drawnשְׁלוּפָ֖הshe.lu.FahH8025in his handבְּיָד֑וֹbe.ya.DoH3027,and Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091wentוַיֵּ֨לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to him and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Are you for us orאִם־'im-H518for our enemiesלְצָרֵֽינוּ׃le.tza.Rei.nuH6862?”
14He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559, “Noלֹ֗אLo'H3808;ratherכִּ֛יkiH3588I have comeבָ֑אתִיVa.tiH935nowעַתָּ֣ה'a.TahH6258ascaptainשַׂר־sar-H8269of the armyצְבָֽא־tze.va'-H6635of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068.”And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֨עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091fellוַיִּפֹּל֩vai.yi.PolH5307on his faceפָּנָ֥יוpa.NavH6440to the groundאַ֙רְצָה֙'ar.tzahH776,and bowedH2331downH2331,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Whatמָ֥הmahH4100has my lordH136to sayמְדַבֵּ֥רme.da.BerH1696to his servantעַבְדּֽוֹ׃av.DoH5650?”
15And the captainשַׂר־sar-H8269of the Lord’sיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068armyצְבָ֨אtze.Va'H6635saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “Removeשַׁל־shal-H5394your sandalsנַֽעַלְךָ֙na.'al.KhaH5275from your feetרַגְלֶ֔ךָrag.Le.khaH7272,for the placeהַמָּק֗וֹםha.ma.KomH4725whereאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834H5921you are standingעֹמֵ֥ד'o.MedH5975is holyקֹ֣דֶשׁKo.deshH6944.”And Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091didוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213soכֵּֽן׃KenH3651.
