2Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֨אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָ֜הne.tan.YahH5418and the tenוַעֲשֶׂ֥רֶתva.'a.Se.retH6235menH376whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834were with him aroseוַיָּקָם֩vai.ya.KamH6965andstruckH5221downוַ֠יַּכּוּVai.ya.kuH5221Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֨הוּge.dal.Ya.huH1436the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Ahikamאֲחִיקָ֧ם'a.chi.KamH296,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Shaphanשָׁפָ֛ןsha.FanH8227,with the swordבַּחֶ֖רֶבba.Che.revH2719andputH4191to deathH4191the onewhomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Babylonבָּבֶ֖לba.VelH894had appointedהִפְקִ֥ידhif.KidH6485over the landבָּאָֽרֶץ׃ba.'A.retzH776.

3Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃yish.ma.'ElH3458also struckH5221downH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605the Jewsהַיְּהוּדִ֗יםhai.ye.hu.DimH3064whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834were with him, that iswith Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ge.dal.Ya.huH1436at Mizpahבַּמִּצְפָּ֔הba.mitz.PahH4709,and the Chaldeansהַכַּשְׂדִּ֖יםha.kas.DimH3778whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were foundנִמְצְאוּ־nim.tze.'u-H4672thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033,the menH376of warהַמִּלְחָמָ֔הha.mil.cha.MahH4421.

4Now it happenedוַיְהִ֛יvay.HiH1961on thenextהַשֵּׁנִ֖יha.she.NiH8145dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117after the killingלְהָמִ֣יתle.ha.MitH4191of Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֑הוּge.dal.Ya.huH1436,when noלֹ֥אlo'H3808oneוְאִ֖ישׁve.'IshH376knewיָדָֽע׃ya.Da'H3045about it,

5that eightyשְׁמֹנִ֣יםshe.mo.NimH8084menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376cameוַיָּבֹ֣אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935fromShechemמִשְּׁכֶ֞םmi.she.KhemH7927, fromShilohמִשִּׁל֤וֹmi.shi.LoH7887, and fromSamariaוּמִשֹּֽׁמְרוֹן֙u.mi.sho.me.rOnH8111withtheir beardsזָקָ֛ןza.KanH2206shavedH1548offH1548and their clothesבְגָדִ֖יםve.ga.DimH899tornוּקְרֻעֵ֥יu.ke.ru.'EiH7167and their bodiesgashedוּמִתְגֹּֽדְדִ֑יםu.mit.go.de.DimH1413,having grain offeringsוּמִנְחָ֤הu.min.ChahH4503and incenseוּלְבוֹנָה֙u.le.vo.NahH3828in their handsבְּיָדָ֔םbe.ya.DamH3027to bringלְהָבִ֖יאle.ha.Vi'H935to thehouseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

6Then Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֨אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָ֤הne.tan.YahH5418wentוַ֠יֵּצֵאVai.ye.tze'H3318out from Mizpahהַמִּצְפָּ֔הha.mitz.PahH4709to meetלִקְרָאתָם֙lik.ra.TamH7122them,weepingוּבֹכֶ֑הu.vo.KhehH1058as he wentH1980;and as he metכִּפְגֹ֣שׁkif.GoshH6298them, he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Comeבֹּ֖אוּBo.'uH935to Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֥הוּge.dal.Ya.huH1436the sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Ahikamאֲחִיקָֽם׃ ס'a.chi.KamH296!”

7Yet it turnedוַיְהִ֕יvay.HiH1961out that as soon as they cameכְּבוֹאָ֖םke.vo.'AmH935insideH8432the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892,Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֤אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָה֙ne.tan.YahH5418and the menH376that were with himslaughteredוַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֞םvai.yish.cha.TemH7819them and cast theminto the cisternהַבּ֔וֹרha.BorH953.

8But tenוַעֲשָׂרָ֨הva.'a.sa.RahH6235menH376who were foundנִמְצְאוּ־nim.tze.'u-H4672among them saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵאל֙yish.ma.'eLH3458, “Do not putH4191us to deathH4191;for we haveיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426storesH4301of wheatחִטִּ֥יםchi.TimH2406,barleyוּשְׂעֹרִ֖יםu.se.'o.RimH8184,oilוְשֶׁ֣מֶןve.She.menH8081and honeyוּדְבָ֑שׁu.de.VashH1706hiddenH4301in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֔הba.sa.DehH7704.”So he refrainedוַיֶּחְדַּ֕לvai.yech.DalH2308and did not putH4191them to deathH4191alongבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432with their companionsאֲחֵיהֶֽם׃'a.chei.HemH251.

9Now as for the cisternוְהַבּ֗וֹרve.ha.BorH953whereשָׁ֤םshamH834 H8033Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵאל֙yish.ma.'eLH3458had castהִשְׁלִ֨יךְhish.LikhH7993allכָּל־kol-H3605the corpsesפִּגְרֵ֣יpig.ReiH6297of the menH376whomH834he had struckH5221downהִכָּה֙hi.KahH5221becauseבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֔הוּge.dal.Ya.huH1436, it was theone that Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Asaאָסָ֔א'a.Sa'H609had madeעָשָׂה֙'a.SahH6213onaccountמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH4480 H6440of Baashaבַּעְשָׁ֣אba'.Sha'H1201,kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478;Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֥אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָ֖הוּne.tan.Ya.huH5418filledמִלֵּ֛אmi.Le'H4390it with the slainחֲלָלִֽים׃cha.la.LimH2491.

10Then Ishmaelיִ֠שְׁמָעֵאלYish.ma.'elH3458tookH7617captiveוַיִּ֣שְׁבְּ׀vai.YishbH7617allכָּל־kol-H3605theremnantשְׁאֵרִ֨יתshe.'e.RitH7611of the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were in Mizpahבַּמִּצְפָּ֗הba.mitz.PahH4709, theking’sהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428daughtersבְּנ֤וֹתbe.NotH1323and allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971who were leftהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֣יםha.nish.'a.RimH7604in Mizpahבַּמִּצְפָּ֔הba.mitz.PahH4709,whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834Nebuzaradanנְבֽוּזַרְאֲדָן֙ne.vu.zar.'a.DanH5018the captainרַב־rav-H7227of the bodyguardטַבָּחִ֔יםta.ba.ChimH2876had putH6485underH6485the chargeH6485of Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֖הוּge.dal.Ya.huH1436the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Ahikamאֲחִיקָ֑ם'a.chi.KamH296;thus Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָ֔הne.tan.YahH5418tookH7617them captiveוַיִּשְׁבֵּם֙vai.yish.BemH7617and proceededוַיֵּ֕לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to crossH5674overH5674to the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121ofAmmonעַמּֽוֹן׃ סa.MonH5983.

11But JohananH3076the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Kareahקָרֵ֔חַka.Re.achH7143and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605thecommandersשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of the forcesהַחֲיָלִ֖יםha.cha.ya.LimH2428that were with him heardוַיִּשְׁמַע֙vai.yish.Ma'H8085of allכָּל־kol-H3605the evilH7463that Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֖אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָֽה׃ne.tan.YahH5418had doneעָשָׂ֔ה'a.SahH6213.

12So they tookוַיִּקְחוּ֙vai.yik.ChuH3947allכָּל־kol-H3605the menH376and wentוַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּvai.Ye.le.KhuH1980tofightלְהִלָּחֵ֖םle.hi.la.ChemH3898with Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָ֑הne.tan.YahH5418and they foundוַיִּמְצְא֣וּvai.yim.tze.'UH4672him by thegreatרַבִּ֖יםra.BimH7227poolמַ֥יִםMa.yimH4325that is in Gibeonבְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃be.giv.'onH1391.

13Now as soon as allH3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971whoH834were with Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֔אלyish.ma.'ElH3458sawכִּרְא֤וֹתkir.'otH7200JohananH3076the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Kareahקָרֵ֔חַka.Re.achH7143and the commandersשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of the forcesהַחֲיָלִ֖יםha.cha.ya.LimH2428that were with him, they were gladוַיִּשְׂמָֽחוּ׃vai.yis.Ma.chuH8055.

15But Ishmaelוְיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אלve.yish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָ֗הne.tan.YahH5418escapedנִמְלַט֙nim.LatH4422from JohananH3076with eightבִּשְׁמֹנָ֣הbish.mo.NahH8083menH376and wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Ammonעַמּֽוֹן׃ סa.MonH5983.

16Then JohananH3076the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Kareahקָרֵ֜חַka.Re.achH7143and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the commandersשָׂרֵ֧יsa.ReiH8269of the forcesהַחֲיָלִ֣יםha.cha.ya.LimH2428that were with him tookוַיִּקַּח֩vai.yi.KachH3947from Mizpahהַמִּצְפָּ֔הha.mitz.PahH4709allכָּל־kol-H3605the remnantשְׁאֵרִ֤יתshe.'e.RitH7611of the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971whomH834he hadrecoveredH7725from Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֤אלyish.ma.'ElH3458the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nethaniahנְתַנְיָה֙ne.tan.YahH5418,afterאַחַ֣ר'a.CharH310he had struckH5221downהִכָּ֔הhi.KahH5221Gedaliahגְּדַלְיָ֖הge.dal.YahH1436the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Ahikamאֲחִיקָ֑ם'a.chi.KamH296, that is,the menH376who weresoldiersאַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה'an.Shei ha.mil.cha.MahH582 H4421, thewomenוְנָשִׁ֤יםve.na.ShimH802, thechildrenוְטַף֙ve.TafH2945, and theeunuchsוְסָ֣רִסִ֔יםve.Sa.ri.SimH5631,whomH834he had broughtH7725backH7725from Gibeonמִגִּבְעֽוֹן׃mi.giv.'onH1391.

17And they wentוַיֵּלְכ֗וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980and stayedוַיֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙vai.ye.she.VuH3427inGeruthבְּגֵר֣וּתbe.ge.RutH1628ChimhamH3643,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834is besideאֵ֖צֶל'E.tzelH681BethlehemH1035, in order toproceedלָלֶ֖כֶת לָב֥וֹאla.Le.khet la.Vo'H1980 H935into Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714
