1So Abramאַבְרָ֨ם'av.RamH87wentוַיַּעַל֩vai.ya.'AlH5927up from Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֜יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714to theNegevהַנֶּֽגְבָּה׃ha.Neg.bahH5045,he and his wifeוְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹve.'ish.ToH802and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605that belonged to him, and Lotוְל֥וֹטve.LotH3876with him.

2Now Abramוְאַבְרָ֖םve.'av.RamH87wasveryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966richכָּבֵ֣דka.VedH3515in livestockבַּמִּקְנֶ֕הba.mik.NehH4735,in silverבַּכֶּ֖סֶףba.Ke.sefH3701and in goldוּבַזָּהָֽב׃u.va.za.HavH2091.

3He wentוַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙vai.Ye.lekhH1980on his journeysלְמַסָּעָ֔יוle.ma.sa.'AvH4550from theNegevמִנֶּ֖גֶבmi.Ne.gevH5045as farH5704as BethelH1008,to the placeהַמָּק֗וֹםha.ma.KomH4725whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֤ם'a.Sher- shamH834 H8033his tentאָֽהֳלוֹ֙'o.ho.loH168had beenהָ֨יָהHa.yahH1961at the beginningבַּתְּחִלָּ֔הba.te.chi.LahH8462,betweenH996BethelH1008and Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857,

4to the placeמְקוֹם֙me.kOmH4725of thealtarהַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַha.miz.Be.achH4196whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834he had madeעָ֥שָׂה'A.sahH6213thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033formerlyבָּרִאשֹׁנָ֑הba.ri.sho.NahH7223;and thereשָׁ֛םshamH8033Abramאַבְרָ֖ם'av.RamH87calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121on the nameבְּשֵׁ֥םbe.ShemH8034of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

5NowLotלְל֔וֹטle.LotH3876,who wentהַהֹלֵ֖ךְha.ho.LekhH1980with Abramאַבְרָ֑ם'av.RamH87,alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571hadהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961flocksצֹאן־tzon-H6629and herdsוּבָקָ֖רu.va.KarH1241and tentsוְאֹהָלִֽים׃ve.'o.ha.LimH168.

6Andthe landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776could notsustainנָשָׂ֥אna.Sa'H5375themwhile dwellingלָשֶׁ֣בֶתla.She.vetH3427togetherH3164,for their possessionsרְכוּשָׁם֙re.khu.ShamH7399were so greatרָ֔בRavH7227that they were not ableיָֽכְל֖וּya.khe.LuH3201to remainלָשֶׁ֥בֶתla.She.vetH3427togetherH3164.

7And there was strifeרִ֗יבRivH7379betweenH996the herdsmenרֹעֵ֣יro.'EiH7462of Abram’sאַבְרָ֔ם'av.RamH87livestockמִקְנֵֽה־mik.neh-H4735and the herdsmenרֹעֵ֣יro.'EiH7462of Lot’sל֑וֹטLotH3876livestockמִקְנֵה־mik.neh-H4735. Nowthe Canaaniteוְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ve.ha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669and the Perizziteוְהַפְּרִזִּ֔יve.hap.pe.ri.ZiH6522were dwellingיֹשֵׁ֥בyo.ShevH3427thenאָ֖ז'azH227in the landבָּאָֽרֶץ׃ba.'A.retzH776.

8So Abramאַבְרָ֜ם'av.RamH87saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Lotל֗וֹטLotH3876, “Pleaseנָ֨אna'H4994let there be noאַל־'al-H408strifeמְרִיבָה֙me.ri.VahH4808betweenH996you and me, nor betweenH996my herdsmenרֹעַ֖יro.'AiH7462and your herdsmenרֹעֶ֑יךָro.'Ei.khaH7462,for we are brothersאַחִ֖ים'a.ChimH251.

9Is not the wholeכָל־khol-H3605landהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776beforeלְפָנֶ֔יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you? Pleaseנָ֖אna'H4994separateהִפָּ֥רֶדhi.Pa.redH6504from me; ifאִם־'im-H518tothe leftהַשְּׂמֹ֣אלha.se.MolH8040,then I will goוְאֵימִ֔נָהve.'ei.Mi.nahH3231to the rightH3231;or ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518tothe rightהַיָּמִ֖יןhai.ya.MinH3225,then I will goוְאַשְׂמְאִֽילָה׃ve.'as.me.'I.lahH8041to the leftH8041.”

10Lotל֣וֹטLotH3876liftedוַיִּשָּׂא־vai.yi.sa'-H5375up his eyesעֵינָ֗יו'ei.NavH5869and sawוַיַּרְא֙vai.yaR'H7200allכָּל־kol-H3605thevalleyכִּכַּ֣רki.KarH3603of the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֔ןhai.yar.DenH3383,that it was wellH4945wateredH4945everywhereכֻלָּ֖הּkhu.LahH3605--this wasbeforeלִפְנֵ֣י׀lif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068destroyedשַׁחֵ֣תsha.ChetH7843Sodomסְדֹם֙se.DomH5467and Gomorrahעֲמֹרָ֔ה'a.mo.RahH6017--likethe gardenכְּגַן־ke.gan-H1588of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,like the landכְּאֶ֣רֶץke.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714as you goבֹּאֲכָ֖הbo.'a.KhahH935toZoarצֹֽעַר׃Tzo.'arH6820.

11So Lotל֗וֹטLotH3876choseוַיִּבְחַר־vai.yiv.char-H977for himself allכָּל־kol-H3605thevalleyכִּכַּ֣רki.KarH3603of the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֔ןhai.yar.DenH3383,and Lotל֖וֹטLotH3876journeyedוַיִּסַּ֥עvai.yi.Sa'H5265eastwardמִקֶּ֑דֶםmi.Ke.demH6924.Thus they separatedוַיִּפָּ֣רְד֔וּvai.yi.Pa.re.DuH6504from eachאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376otherאָחִֽיו׃'a.ChivH251.

12Abramאַבְרָ֖ם'av.RamH87settledיָשַׁ֣בya.ShavH3427in the landבְּאֶֽרֶץ־be.'e.retz-H776of Canaanכְּנָ֑עַןke.Na.'anH3667,while Lotוְל֗וֹטve.LotH3876settledיָשַׁב֙ya.ShavH3427inthe citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of thevalleyהַכִּכָּ֔רha.ki.KarH3603,and movedH167his tentsוַיֶּאֱהַ֖לvai.ye.'e.HalH167as farעַד־'ad-H5704as Sodomסְדֹֽם׃se.DomH5467.

13Nowthe menH376of Sodomסְדֹ֔םse.DomH5467were wickedרָעִ֖יםra.'ImH7451exceedinglyמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966andsinnersוְחַטָּאִ֑יםve.cha.ta.'ImH2400against the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068.

14The Lordוַֽיהוָ֞הva.Yah.wehH3068saidאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559to Abramאַבְרָ֗ם'av.RamH87,afterאַחֲרֵי֙'a.cha.ReiH310Lotל֣וֹטLotH3876had separatedהִפָּֽרֶד־hi.pa.red-H6504from him, “Nowנָ֤אna'H4994liftשָׂ֣אsa'H5375up your eyesעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙'ei.Nei.khaH5869and lookוּרְאֵ֔הu.re.'EhH7200from the placeהַמָּק֖וֹםha.ma.KomH4725whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֑ם'a.Sher- ShamH834 H8033you are,northwardצָפֹ֥נָהtza.Fo.nahH6828and southwardוָנֶ֖גְבָּהva.Neg.bahH5045and eastwardוָקֵ֥דְמָהva.Ke.de.mahH6924and westwardוָיָֽמָּה׃va.Ya.mahH3220;

15for allכָּל־kol-H3605the landהָאָ֛רֶץha.'A.retzH776whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you seeרֹאֶ֖הro.'EhH7200,I will giveאֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה'et.te.Ne.nahH5414it to you and to yourdescendantsוּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֖ul.zar.'a.KhaH2233foreverעַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769.

16I will makeוְשַׂמְתִּ֥יve.sam.TiH7760yourdescendantsזַרְעֲךָ֖zar.'a.KhaH2233as the dustכַּעֲפַ֣רka.'a.FarH6083of the earthהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776,soאֲשֶׁ֣ר׀'a.SherH834that ifאִם־'im-H518anyoneאִ֗ישׁ'IshH376canיוּכַ֣לyu.KhalH3201numberלִמְנוֹת֙lim.nOtH4487the dustעֲפַ֣ר'a.FarH6083of the earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776, then yourdescendantsזַרְעֲךָ֖zar.'a.KhaH2233can alsoגַּֽם־gam-H1571be numberedיִמָּנֶֽה׃yi.ma.NehH4487.

17Ariseק֚וּםkumH6965,walkהִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְhit.ha.LekhH1980about the landבָּאָ֔רֶץba.'A.retzH776through its lengthלְאָרְכָּ֖הּle.'a.re.KahH753and breadthוּלְרָחְבָּ֑הּu.le.ra.che.BahH7341; forI will giveאֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃'et.te.Ne.nahH5414it to you.”

18Then Abramאַבְרָ֗ם'av.RamH87movedH167his tentוַיֶּאֱהַ֣לvai.ye.'e.HalH167and cameוַיָּבֹ֛אvai.ya.Vo'H935and dweltוַיֵּ֛שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427by theoaksבְּאֵלֹנֵ֥יbe.'e.lo.NeiH436of Mamreמַמְרֵ֖אmam.Re'H4471,whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834are in Hebronבְּחֶבְר֑וֹןbe.chev.RonH2275,and thereשָׁ֥םshamH8033he builtוַיִּֽבֶן־vai.yi.ven-H1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196to the Lordלַֽיהוָֽה׃ פla.Yah.wehH3068.
