3Then Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֛הpar.'OhH6547saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his brothersאֶחָ֖יו'e.ChavH251, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100is your occupationמַּעֲשֵׂיכֶ֑םma.'a.sei.KhemH4639?”So they saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֗הpar.'OhH6547, “Your servantsעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650areshepherdsרֹעֵ֥הro.'EhH7462,bothH1571we and our fathersאֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ׃'a.vo.Tei.nuH1.”
4They saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֗הpar.'OhH6547, “We have comeבָּאנוּ֒ba.NuH935to sojournלָג֣וּרla.GurH1481in the landבָּאָרֶץ֮ba.'a.RetzH776,for thereH369is noH369pastureמִרְעֶ֗הmir.'EhH4829for your servants’לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָla.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650flocksלַצֹּאן֙la.tzoNH6629, forthe famineהָרָעָ֖בha.ra.'AvH7458is severeכָבֵ֥דkha.VedH3515in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנָ֑עַןke.Na.'anH3667.Nowוְעַתָּ֛הve.'a.TahH6258,therefore, pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994let your servantsעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650liveיֵֽשְׁבוּ־ye.she.vu-H3427in the landבְּאֶ֥רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Goshenגֹּֽשֶׁן׃Go.shenH1657.”
6The landאֶ֤רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4714isat your disposalלְפָנֶ֣יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440;settleהוֹשֵׁ֥בho.ShevH3427your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1and your brothersאַחֶ֑יךָ'a.Chei.khaH251inthe bestבְּמֵיטַ֣בbe.mei.TavH4315of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776, let themliveיֵשְׁבוּ֙ye.she.VuH3427in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Goshenגֹּ֔שֶׁןGo.shenH1657;and ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you knowיָדַ֗עְתָּya.Da'.taH3045anyוְיֶשׁ־ve.yesh-H3426capableחַ֔יִלCha.yilH2428menH376among them, thenputוְשַׂמְתָּ֛םve.sam.TamH7760them in chargeשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of my livestockמִקְנֶ֖הmik.NehH4735.”
7Then Josephיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130broughtוַיָּבֵ֤אvai.ya.Ve'H935his fatherאָבִ֔יו'a.VivH1Jacobיַֽעֲקֹ֣בya.'a.KoH3290andpresentedוַיַּֽעֲמִדֵ֖הוּ לִפְנֵ֣יvai.ya.'a.mi.De.hu lif.NeiH5975H6440him to Pharaohפַרְעֹ֑הfar.'OhH6547;and Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290blessedוַיְבָ֥רֶךְvay.Va.rekhH1288Pharaohפַּרְעֹֽה׃par.'OhH6547.
9So Jacobיַעֲקֹב֙ya.'a.KoH3290saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֔הpar.'OhH6547, “TheyearsH8141of my sojourningמְגוּרַ֔יme.gu.RaiH4033are one hundredוּמְאַ֖תu.me.'AtH3967andthirtyשְׁלֹשִׁ֥יםshe.lo.ShimH7970;fewמְעַ֣טme.'AtH4592andunpleasantוְרָעִ֗יםve.ra.'ImH7451have beenהָיוּ֙ha.YuH1961theyearsH8141of my lifeH2425,norוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808have theyattainedהִשִּׂ֗יגוּhi.Si.guH5381theyearsH8141that my fathersאֲבֹתַ֔י'a.vo.TaiH1livedH2425during the daysH3117of their sojourningמְגוּרֵיהֶֽם׃me.gu.rei.HemH4033.”
11So Josephיוֹסֵף֮yo.SefH3130settledוַיּוֹשֵׁ֣בvai.yo.ShevH3427his fatherאָבִ֣יו'a.VivH1and his brothersאֶחָיו֒'e.ChavH251and gaveוַיִּתֵּ֨ןvai.yi.TenH5414them a possessionאֲחֻזָּה֙'a.chu.ZahH272in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714, inthe bestבְּמֵיטַ֥בbe.mei.TavH4315of the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776ofRamesesרַעְמְסֵ֑סra'.me.SesH7486,as Pharaohפַרְעֹֽה׃far.'OhH6547had orderedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680.
13Now thereH369was noH369foodוְלֶ֤חֶםve.Le.chemH3899in allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the famineהָרָעָ֖בha.ra.'AvH7458was veryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966severeכָבֵ֥דkha.VedH3515, so thatthe landאֶ֤רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4714and the landוְאֶ֣רֶץve.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנַ֔עַןke.Na.'anH3667languishedוַתֵּ֜לַהּva.Te.lahH3856becauseמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH4480H6440of the famineהָרָעָֽב׃ha.ra.'AvH7458.
14Josephיוֹסֵ֗ףyo.SefH3130gatheredוַיְלַקֵּ֣טvay.la.KetH3950allכָּל־kol-H3605the moneyהַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ha.Ke.sefH3701that was foundהַנִּמְצָ֤אha.nim.Tza'H4672in the landבְאֶֽרֶץ־ve.'e.retz-H776of Egyptמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4714and in the landוּבְאֶ֣רֶץu.ve.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנַ֔עַןke.Na.'anH3667for the grainבַּשֶּׁ֖בֶרba.She.verH7668whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834they boughtשֹׁבְרִ֑יםshoe.RimH7666,and Josephיוֹסֵ֛ףyo.SefH3130broughtוַיָּבֵ֥אvai.ya.Ve'H935the moneyהַכֶּ֖סֶףha.Ke.sefH3701into Pharaoh’sפַרְעֹֽה׃far.'OhH6547houseבֵּ֥יתָהBei.tahH1004.
15When the moneyהַכֶּ֗סֶףha.Ke.sefH3701was allH8552spentH8552in the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַיִם֮mitz.ra.YimH4714and in the landוּמֵאֶ֣רֶץu.me.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנַעַן֒ke.na.'AnH3667,allכָל־khol-H3605the EgyptiansH4714cameוַיָּבֹאוּ֩vai.ya.vo.'UH935to Josephיוֹסֵ֤ףyo.SefH3130and saidלֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559, “Giveהָֽבָה־ha.vah-H3051usfoodלֶ֔חֶםLe.chemH3899, forwhyוְלָ֥מָּהve.La.mahH4100should we dieנָמ֖וּתna.MutH4191in your presenceנֶגְדֶּ֑ךָneg.De.khaH5048? For ourmoneyכָּֽסֶף׃Ka.sefH3701is goneאָפֵ֖ס'a.FesH656.”
16Then Josephיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Giveהָב֣וּha.VuH3051up your livestockמִקְנֵיכֶ֔םmik.nei.KhemH4735,and I will giveוְאֶתְּנָ֥הve.'e.te.NahH5414you foodfor your livestockבְּמִקְנֵיכֶ֑םbe.mik.nei.KhemH4735,sinceאִם־'im-H518yourmoneyכָּֽסֶף׃Ka.sefH3701is goneאָפֵ֖ס'a.FesH656.”
17So they broughtוַיָּבִ֣יאוּvai.ya.Vi.'uH935their livestockH4735to Josephיוֹסֵף֒yo.SefH3130,and Josephיוֹסֵ֨ףyo.SefH3130gaveוַיִּתֵּ֣ןvai.yi.TenH5414themfoodלֶ֜חֶםLe.chemH3899in exchange for the horsesבַּסּוּסִ֗יםba.su.SimH5483and theflocksהַצֹּ֛אןha.TzonH6629and the herdsהַבָּקָ֖רha.ba.KarH1241and the donkeysוּבַחֲמֹרִ֑יםu.va.cha.mo.RimH2543; and hefedוַיְנַהֲלֵ֤םvay.na.ha.LemH5095them withfoodבַּלֶּ֙חֶם֙ba.Le.chemH3899in exchange for allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605their livestockH4735that yearבַּשָּׁנָ֖הba.sha.NahH8141.
18When that yearהַשָּׁנָ֣הha.sha.NahH8141was endedH8552,they cameוַיָּבֹ֨אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to him thenextהַשֵּׁנִ֗יתha.she.NitH8145yearבַּשָּׁנָ֣הba.sha.NahH8141and saidוַיֹּ֤אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “We will not hideנְכַחֵ֣דne.kha.ChedH3582from my lordמֵֽאֲדֹנִ֔יme.'a.do.NiH113that our moneyהַכֶּ֔סֶףha.Ke.sefH3701is allH8552spentH8552, and thecattleוּמִקְנֵ֥ה הַבְּהֵמָ֖הu.mik.Neh ha.be.he.MahH4735H929are my lord’sאֲדֹנִ֑י'a.do.NiH113.There is nothingH3808leftנִשְׁאַר֙nish.'ArH7604for my lordאֲדֹנִ֔י'a.do.NiH113exceptבִּלְתִּ֥יbil.TiH1115H518our bodiesגְּוִיָּתֵ֖נוּge.vi.ya.Te.nuH1472and our landsוְאַדְמָתֵֽנוּ׃ve.'ad.ma.Te.nuH127.
19Whyלָ֧מָּהLa.mahH4100should we dieנָמ֣וּתna.MutH4191before your eyesלְעֵינֶ֗יךָle.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,bothH1571we and our landאַדְמָתֵ֔נוּ'ad.ma.Te.nuH127?Buyקְנֵֽה־ke.neh-H7069us and our landאַדְמָתֵ֖נוּ'ad.ma.Te.nuH127forfoodבַּלָּ֑חֶםba.La.chemH3899,and we and our landוְאַדְמָתֵ֙נוּ֙ve.'ad.ma.Te.nuH127will be slavesעֲבָדִ֣ים'a.va.DimH5650to Pharaohלְפַרְעֹ֔הle.far.'OhH6547.So giveוְתֶן־ve.ten-H5414us seedזֶ֗רַעZe.ra'H2233,that we may liveוְנִֽחְיֶה֙ve.nich.YehH2421and not dieנָמ֔וּתna.MutH4191,and that the landוְהָאֲדָמָ֖הve.ha.'a.da.MahH127may not be desolateתֵשָֽׁם׃te.ShamH3456.”
Result of the Famine
20So Josephיוֹסֵ֜ףyo.SefH3130boughtוַיִּ֨קֶןvai.Yi.kenH7069allכָּל־kol-H3605the landאַדְמַ֤ת'ad.MatH127of Egyptמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4714for Pharaohלְפַרְעֹ֔הle.far.'OhH6547, foreveryאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376EgyptianH4714soldמָכְר֤וּma.khe.RuH4376his fieldשָׂדֵ֔הוּsa.De.huH7704,becauseH3588the famineהָרָעָ֑בha.ra.'AvH7458was severeחָזַ֥קcha.ZakH2388upon them. Thus the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776becameוַתְּהִ֥יva.te.HiH1961Pharaoh’sלְפַרְעֹֽה׃le.far.'OhH6547.
22OnlyH7534the landאַדְמַ֥ת'ad.MatH127of the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִ֖יםha.ko.ha.NimH3548he did not buyקָנָ֑הka.NahH7069,for the priestsלַכֹּהֲנִ֜יםla.ko.ha.NimH3548had an allotmentחֹ֨קchokH2706from Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֗הpar.'OhH6547, and theylivedH398offH398the allotmentחֻקָּם֙chu.KamH2706whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֔הpar.'OhH6547gaveנָתַ֤ןna.TanH5414them. Thereforeעַל־ כֵּ֕ן'al- kenH5921H3651,they did not sellמָכְר֖וּma.khe.RuH4376their landאַדְמָתָֽם׃'ad.ma.TamH127.
23Then Josephיוֹסֵף֙yo.SefH3130saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971, “Beholdהֵן֩henH2005,I have todayהַיּ֛וֹםhai.YomH3117boughtקָנִ֨יתִיka.Ni.tiH7069you and your landאַדְמַתְכֶ֖ם'ad.mat.KhemH127for Pharaohלְפַרְעֹ֑הle.far.'OhH6547;nowהֵֽא־he'-H1887, hereis seedזֶ֔רַעZe.ra'H2233for you, and you may sowוּזְרַעְתֶּ֖םu.ze.ra'.TemH2232the landהָאֲדָמָֽה׃ha.'a.da.MahH127.
24At the harvestבַּתְּבוּאֹ֔תba.te.vu.'OtH8393you shall giveוּנְתַתֶּ֥םu.ne.ta.TemH5414afifthחֲמִישִׁ֖יתcha.mi.ShitH2549to Pharaohלְפַרְעֹ֑הle.far.'OhH6547, andfour-fifthsוְאַרְבַּ֣ע הַיָּדֹ֡תve.'ar.Ba' hai.ya.DotH702H3027shall be your own for seedלְזֶ֨רַעle.Ze.ra'H2233of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֧הha.sa.DehH7704and for your foodוּֽלְאָכְלְכֶ֛םu.le.'a.khe.le.KhemH400and for those of your householdsבְּבָתֵּיכֶ֖םbe.va.tei.KhemH1004and as foodוְלֶאֱכֹ֥לve.le.'e.KholH398for your littleלְטַפְּכֶֽם׃le.ta.pe.KhemH2945onesH2945.”
26Josephיוֹסֵ֡ףyo.SefH3130madeוַיָּ֣שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760it a statuteלְחֹק֩le.ChokH2706concerningעַל־'al-H5921the landאַדְמַ֥ת'ad.MatH127of Egyptמִצְרַ֛יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714validto thisהַזֶּ֜הha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֨וֹםhai.YomH3117,that Pharaohלְפַרְעֹ֖הle.far.'OhH6547should have the fifthלַחֹ֑מֶשׁla.Cho.meshH2569;onlyH7534the landאַדְמַ֤ת'ad.MatH127of the priestsהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ha.ko.ha.NimH3548did not becomeהָיְתָ֖הha.ye.TahH1961Pharaoh’sלְפַרְעֹֽה׃le.far.'OhH6547.
