The Corruption of Mankind

1Now it cameוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961about, whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588menהָֽאָדָ֔םha.'a.DamH120beganהֵחֵ֣לhe.ChelH2490to multiplyלָרֹ֖בla.RoH7231on the faceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the landהָֽאֲדָמָ֑הha.'a.da.MahH127,and daughtersוּבָנ֖וֹתu.va.NotH1323were bornיֻלְּד֥וּyu.le.DuH3205to them,

2that the sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430sawוַיִּרְא֤וּvai.yir.'UH7200that the daughtersבְּנ֣וֹתbe.NotH1323of menהָֽאָדָ֔םha.'a.DamH120werebeautifulטֹבֹ֖תto.VotH2896;and they tookוַיִּקְח֤וּvai.yik.ChuH3947wivesנָשִׁ֔יםna.ShimH802for themselves, whomeverמִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥רmi.Kol 'a.SherH3605 H834they choseבָּחָֽרוּ׃ba.Cha.ruH977.

3Then the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “My Spiritרוּחִ֤יru.ChiH7307shall notstriveיָד֨וֹןya.DonH1777with manבָֽאָדָם֙va.'a.DamH120foreverלְעֹלָ֔םle.'o.LamH5769,becauseH7683he alsoH7683is fleshבָשָׂ֑רva.SarH1320;nevertheless his daysיָמָ֔יוya.MavH3117shall be one hundredמֵאָ֥הme.'AhH3967and twentyוְעֶשְׂרִ֖יםve.'es.RimH6242yearsשָׁנָֽה׃sha.NahH8141.”

4TheNephilimהַנְּפִלִ֞יםha.ne.fi.LimH5303were on the earthבָאָרֶץ֮va.'a.RetzH776in thoseהָהֵם֒ha.HemH1992daysבַּיָּמִ֣יםbai.ya.MimH3117,and alsoוְגַ֣םve.GamH1571afterwardאַֽחֲרֵי־ כֵ֗ן'a.cha.rei- KhenH310 H3651,whenאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the sonsבְּנֵ֤יbe.NeiH1121of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430cameיָבֹ֜אוּya.Vo.'uH935in to the daughtersבְּנ֣וֹתbe.NotH1323of menהָֽאָדָ֔םha.'a.DamH120,and they boreוְיָלְד֖וּve.yal.DuH3205childrento them. Thoseהֵ֧מָּהHe.mahH1992were the mightyהַגִּבֹּרִ֛יםha.gi.bo.RimH1368menH1368whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834wereof oldמֵעוֹלָ֖םme.'o.LamH5769,menH376of renownהַשֵּֽׁם׃ פha.ShemH8034.

5Then the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200that the wickednessH7463of manהָאָדָ֖םha.'a.DamH120was greatרַבָּ֛הra.BahH7227on the earthבָּאָ֑רֶץba.'A.retzH776, and thateveryוְכָל־ve.kholH3605intentיֵ֙צֶר֙ye.tzerH3336of the thoughtsמַחְשְׁבֹ֣תmach.she.VotH4284of his heartלִבּ֔וֹli.BoH3820was onlyH7534evilH7451continuallyכָּל־ הַיּֽוֹם׃kol- hai.YomH3605 H3117.

6The Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068was sorryוַיִּנָּ֣חֶםvai.yi.Na.chemH5162that He had madeעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213manהָֽאָדָ֖םha.'a.DamH120on the earthבָּאָ֑רֶץba.'A.retzH776, and He wasgrievedוַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖בvai.yit.'a.TzevH6087in His heartלִבּֽוֹ׃li.BoH3820.

7The Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will blotאֶמְחֶ֨ה'em.ChehH4229out manהָאָדָ֤םha.'a.DamH120whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834I have createdבָּרָ֙אתִי֙ba.Ra.tiH1254from the faceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the landהָֽאֲדָמָ֔הha.'a.da.MahH127,from manמֵֽאָדָם֙me.'a.DamH120to animalsבְּהֵמָ֔הbe.he.MahH929to creepingH7431thingsרֶ֖מֶשׂRe.mesH7431and to birdsע֣וֹףofH5775of theskyהַשָּׁמָ֑יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064; forI amH5162sorryH5162that I have madeעֲשִׂיתִֽם׃'a.si.TimH6213them.”

8ButNoahוְנֹ֕חַve.No.achH5146foundמָ֥צָאMa.tza'H4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in the eyesבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068.

9Theseאֵ֚לֶּה'E.lehH428are the records ofthe generationsתּוֹלְדֹ֣תtol.DotH8435of Noahנֹ֔חַNo.achH5146.Noahנֹ֗חַNo.achH5146was arighteousצַדִּ֛יקtza.DikH6662manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376,blamelessתָּמִ֥יםta.MimH8549in histimeבְּדֹֽרֹתָ֑יוbe.do.ro.TavH1755;Noahנֹֽחַ׃No.achH5146walkedהִֽתְהַלֶּךְ־hit.ha.lekh-H1980with Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.

10Noahנֹ֖חַNo.achH5146becameH3205the fatherוַיּ֥וֹלֶדvai.Yo.ledH3205of threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֣הshe.lo.ShahH7969sonsבָנִ֑יםva.NimH1121:Shemשֵׁ֖םshemH8035,Hamחָ֥םchamH2526,and Japhethיָֽפֶת׃Ya.fetH3315.

11Now the earthהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776wascorruptוַתִּשָּׁחֵ֥תva.ti.sha.ChetH7843in the sightלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,and the earthהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776wasfilledוַתִּמָּלֵ֥אva.ti.ma.Le'H4390with violenceחָמָֽס׃cha.MasH2555.

12Godאֱלֹהִ֛ים'E.lo.HimH430lookedוַיַּ֧רְאvai.Yar'H7200on the earthהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֣הve.hi.NehH2009,it was corruptנִשְׁחָ֑תָהnish.Cha.tahH7843; forallכָּל־kol-H3605fleshבָּשָׂ֛רba.SarH1320had corruptedהִשְׁחִ֧יתhish.ChitH7843their wayדַּרְכּ֖וֹdar.KoH1870upon the earthהָאָֽרֶץ׃ סha.'A.retzH776.

13Then Godאֱלֹהִ֜ים'E.lo.HimH430saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Noahלְנֹ֗חַle.No.achH5146, “The endקֵ֤ץketzH7093of allכָּל־kol-H3605fleshבָּשָׂר֙ba.SarH1320has comeבָּ֣אba'H935beforeלְפָנַ֔יle.fa.NaiH6440Me; for the earthהָאָ֛רֶץha.'A.retzH776is filledמָלְאָ֥הmal.'AhH4390with violenceחָמָ֖סcha.MasH2555becauseמִפְּנֵיהֶ֑םmi.pe.nei.HemH4480 H6440of them; and beholdH2009,I am about to destroyמַשְׁחִיתָ֖םmash.chi.TamH7843them with the earthהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.

14Makeעֲשֵׂ֤ה'a.SehH6213for yourself an arkתֵּבַ֣תte.VatH8392of gopherגֹ֔פֶרGo.ferH1613woodעֲצֵי־'a.tzei-H6086;you shall makeתַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣הta.'a.SehH6213the arkהַתֵּבָ֑הha.te.VahH8392with roomsקִנִּ֖יםki.NimH7064, and shallcoverוְכָֽפַרְתָּ֥ve.kha.far.TaH3722it insideמִבַּ֥יִתmi.Ba.yitH4480 H1004and out with pitchבַּכֹּֽפֶר׃ba.Ko.ferH3724.

15Thisוְזֶ֕הve.ZehH2088is howאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you shall makeתַּֽעֲשֶׂ֖הta.'a.SehH6213it: the lengthאֹ֚רֶךְ'O.rekhH753of the arkהַתֵּבָ֔הha.te.VahH8392threeשְׁלֹ֧שׁshe.LoshH7969hundredמֵא֣וֹתme.'otH3967cubitsאַמָּ֗ה'a.MahH520,its breadthרָחְבָּ֔הּra.che.BahH7341fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֤יםcha.mi.ShimH2572cubitsאַמָּה֙'a.MahH520,and its heightקוֹמָתָֽהּ׃ko.ma.TahH6967thirtyוּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥יםu.she.lo.ShimH7970cubitsאַמָּ֖ה'a.MahH520.

16You shall makeתַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣הta.'a.SehH6213awindowצֹ֣הַר׀Tzo.harH6672for the arkלַתֵּבָ֗הla.te.VahH8392,and finishתְּכַלֶ֣נָּהte.kha.Le.nahH3615it to a cubitאַמָּה֙'a.MahH520fromthe topמִלְמַ֔עְלָהmil.Ma'.lahH4605;and setתָּשִׂ֑יםta.SimH7760the doorוּפֶ֥תַחu.Fe.tachH6607of the arkהַתֵּבָ֖הha.te.VahH8392in the sideבְּצִדָּ֣הּbe.tzi.DahH6654of it; you shall makeתַּֽעֲשֶֽׂהָ׃Ta.'a.Se.haH6213it with lowerתַּחְתִּיִּ֛םtach.ti.YimH8482,secondשְׁנִיִּ֥םshe.ni.YimH8145,and thirdוּשְׁלִשִׁ֖יםu.she.li.ShimH7992decks.

17Beholdהִנְנִי֩hi.NiH2009,I, even I am bringingמֵבִ֨יאme.Vi'H935the floodהַמַּבּ֥וּלha.ma.BulH3999of waterמַ֙יִם֙ma.yimH4325upon the earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,to destroyלְשַׁחֵ֣תle.sha.ChetH7843allכָּל־kol-H3605fleshבָּשָׂ֗רba.SarH1320in whichH834is the breathר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of lifeH2425,from underמִתַּ֖חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478heavenהַשָּׁמָ֑יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064;everythingכֹּ֥לkolH3605that is on the earthבָּאָ֖רֶץba.'A.retzH776shall perishיִגְוָֽע׃yig.Va'H1478.

18But I will establishוַהֲקִמֹתִ֥יva.ha.ki.mo.TiH6965My covenantבְּרִיתִ֖יbe.ri.TiH1285with you; andyou shall enterוּבָאתָ֙u.va.TaH935the arkהַתֵּבָ֔הha.te.VahH8392--you and your sonsוּבָנֶ֛יךָu.va.Nei.khaH1121and your wifeוְאִשְׁתְּךָ֥ve.'ish.te.KhaH802,and your sons’בָנֶ֖יךָva.Nei.khaH1121wivesוּנְשֵֽׁי־u.ne.shei-H802with you.

19And of everyוּמִכָּל־u.mi.kol-H3605livingH2416thingהָ֠חַיHa.chaiH2416of allמִֽכָּל־mi.kolH3605fleshבָּשָׂ֞רba.SarH1320,you shall bringתָּבִ֥יאta.Vi'H935twoשְׁנַ֧יִםshe.Na.yimH8147of everyמִכֹּ֛לmi.KolH3605kindinto the arkהַתֵּבָ֖הha.te.VahH8392,to keepH2421themaliveלְהַחֲיֹ֣תle.ha.cha.YotH2421with you; they shall be maleזָכָ֥רza.KharH2145and femaleוּנְקֵבָ֖הu.ne.ke.VahH5347.

20Of the birdsמֵהָע֣וֹףme.ha.'ofH5775after their kindלְמִינֵ֗הוּle.mi.Ne.huH4327,and of the animalsהַבְּהֵמָה֙ha.be.he.MahH929after their kindלְמִינָ֔הּle.mi.NahH4327,of everyמִכֹּ֛לmi.KolH3605creepingH7431thingרֶ֥מֶשׂRe.mesH7431of the groundהָֽאֲדָמָ֖הha.'a.da.MahH127after its kindלְמִינֵ֑הוּle.mi.Ne.huH4327,twoשְׁנַ֧יִםshe.Na.yimH8147of everyמִכֹּ֛לmi.KolH3605kindwill comeיָבֹ֥אוּya.Vo.'uH935to you to keepH2421themaliveלְהַֽחֲיֽוֹת׃le.Ha.cha.YotH2421.

21As for you, takeקַח־kach-H3947for yourself someH4480of allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605foodמַֽאֲכָל֙ma.'a.KhalH3978whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834is edibleיֵֽאָכֵ֔לye.'a.KhelH398,and gatherוְאָסַפְתָּ֖ve.'a.saf.TaH622itto yourself; and it shall be for foodלְאָכְלָֽה׃le.'okh.LahH402for you and for them.”

22Thus Noahנֹ֑חַNo.achH5146didוַיַּ֖עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213;according to allכְּ֠כֹלKe.kholH3605that Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430had commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680him, soכֵּ֥ןkenH3651he didעָשָֽׂה׃ ס'a.SahH6213.
